Chapter 49: war on set

Chapter 49 War on the set

The crew's location soon moved from Gray's to the General Motors Production Center.

Since General Motors closed its Atlanta production center in 2000, this large industrial park has been idle.

After cooperating with the crew, Kelly Gray rented a large factory building and transformed it into a sound studio.

As French director Michel Gondry brought more than 20 main cast and crew to Atlanta, the filming of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" began.

Martin plays a small role, and his role is relatively fragmented. His main task every day is to put on makeup and wait.

This job is not as simple as it seems. Martin plays Robert opposite him from time to time to maintain his condition.

He is like the man in the movie Sacred Valley, with no sense of existence, but when the director uses him, he must be high-spirited and not sluggish like a slug.

It doesn’t matter if Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are not in good condition, the person who plays them must make less mistakes.

In the actor's rest area, Martin raised his hand and fist bumped with Robert: "Brother, don't make any mistakes."

It was Robert's turn to appear in the next scene, and he said: "I am an old background artist."

Five or six actors enter the "bookstore" to serve as a backdrop.

Robert is in a good position, maybe the camera can capture the front.

Before filming started, Martin discovered that Robert quietly moved half a step towards Kate Winslet. Judging from the position of the camera, he could definitely be captured by the camera.

As expected, he is an artist with an old background.

It does not exceed the requirements and can show its face.

Working as a backdrop for Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet was enough to be considered a background artist in Atlanta for several years.

Perhaps the air in the studio is stuffy, or perhaps it's those days of the month for women, but Kate Winslet was in a very bad state today, and it took more than a dozen takes to get through a very simple scene.

French director Michel could only shoot one shot after another, and he couldn't create any fire.

After Robert returns, Martin prepares to enter the scene. He and Kate Winslet have two lines of dialogue and then kiss.

He sprayed on breath freshener and entered the set to have a brief exchange with Kate Winslet.

Kate Winslet said directly: "I take the initiative and follow my own pace."

 Martin said: "Understood."

The assistant director came over to remind us about the positioning.

 The shooting begins.

The male and female protagonists are having a conversation. Martin comes from behind the bookshelf, talks to the heroine, and then lowers his head to kiss the heroine.

The heroine quickly leaned forward and placed a kiss on Martin's mouth.

Michelle stopped and shouted: "Too shallow! A deep kiss, a deep kiss that expresses love!"

Start over again, and the heroine kisses Martin again.

Michelle was still not satisfied: “Kate, are you going to eat him?”

 Again, stop again.

The romantic nature of French people makes the director have a perfect and demanding attitude towards kissing.

We took more than a dozen shots in a row, but Michelle was still not satisfied.

The further back, the worse Kate Winslet's condition becomes.

Martin’s lips were numb as the heroine tried various types of kisses.

At first, he felt a little secretly happy that I had kissed Ruth.

It quickly became indifferent and turned into a kissing scene between me and Kate Winslet.

At this moment, Martin had only one thought: What is in front of me is Fei Wen.

After several more starts and calls to stop filming, Michelle couldn't help but say: "Don't stick out your tongue!"

“What the **** do you want?” Kate Winslet exploded. This is a woman who dares to confront Cameron on the set. She directly used her advantage as a woman and fired the map gun: "Stop the boring ways of French men. I've had enough of you in Los Angeles. French men who only take out their anger on women!"

As soon as the British insult came out, Michelle became more angry: "You are this arrogant and rude half-cooked beef. There is no undersea tunnel here, but there is an international airport that leads to hell. It is as convenient as Charles de Gaulle Airport!"

Everyone present, including Jim Carrey, hurriedly hid aside, not wanting to participate in this **** fancy mutual humiliation.

Producer Steve Golin, screenwriter and producer Charlie Kaufman, and executive producer Louise Meyer all came to the set to break up the fight.

The crew paused work, and Martin returned to the rest area. After consulting the assistant makeup artist, he took out a wet wipe and wiped it gently.

Robert added insult to injury: "Originally I was a little envious of you, but now...it's not easy for you to come back alive."

The three producers tried to persuade each other, and it took a while to calm down the war.

Martin repaired his costume and returned to the set.

Kate Winslet saw Martin's lips and said politely: "Sorry."

Martin replied softly: "It doesn't matter."

Director Michelle glanced at Martin and asked the makeup artist: "His mouth?" The makeup artist said: "It will take a while."

It was impossible for Michel to wait for a small actor. After a moment of thought, he said to his assistant: "Adjust his position."

In the filming again, Martin walked from the side and kissed Kate Winslet with his back to the camera. There was no frontal shot.

Martin had no choice but to accept the reality. The director and the heroine had a quarrel, but he was the unlucky one in the end.

Back at the rest area, Robert was very happy: "Although you have lines, you don't show your face."

Martin’s filming is over today. He can take off his makeup and leave. The two of them go to the trailer together.

After taking off his makeup, Martin asked Robert: "Your play is over, what are you going to do next?"

Robert said: "I chose a job in the logistics team, mainly transporting food and beverages. I am familiar with this job."

Martin couldn't help but remind him: "Man, I can't be the leading actor or supporting actor in this crew, so you don't have to work so hard."

Robert didn’t want to talk to this bastard, pointed to the front and said, “Look, isn’t that our hero?”

Martin looked over there. At the open-air dressing area set up by the awning, there was a handsome blond guy among the passers-by actors changing clothes. He thought for a moment and asked, "Adam Smith?"

Robert nodded: "Yes, you are the leading actor in Ma Zhen's drama. I didn't expect that he will be like me now, just as a backdrop."

From the dining car next to him, a mixed-race black woman came out and greeted Robert: "Are you finished working today?"

Robert said: "After the filming, I will start doing odd jobs tomorrow."

The black woman turned her eyes to Martin.

Robert introduced casually: "This is Martin, the deputy director of the troupe. Martin, this is Rosa, a former actor of the troupe who is back now."

Rosa stretched out her hand to Martin, her chocolate skin as smooth as satin: "I remember you."

Martin did not remember her, but he shook hands politely: "I remember you too."

The black BMW 7 drove to the side of the road. Kelly Gray, who was wearing professional attire, got out of the car and waved to Martin.

“I have a friend.” Martin said and walked over.

Kelly Gray saw his mouth at a glance: "How could it be hurt here?"

Martin shrugged: "In a kiss scene, I was too charming and was swollen by the heroine's kiss."

Kelly smiled: "Good news for you, your social investigator has been promoted to a full-time job, with a weekly salary of 500 US dollars."

Martin said: "How can I thank you?"

“No need.” Kelly didn’t shy away from it, because Martin was not stupid, and he understood it just by asking casually: “I got more.”

Martin also laughed: “When will I become Senator Kelly?”

Kelly Gray said: “There’s still a long way to go.”

Not far away on the other side, Rosa looked at Martin and asked curiously: "Is he familiar with the boss of Gray Films?"

Robert said: "They seem to be friends, but I don't know the details."

Rosa looked at the two people talking and laughing, and said, "It's not that familiar."

Robert didn’t want to talk more and said vaguely: “Who knows.”

Martin turned around, waved to Robert, and followed Kelly Gray back to the studio.

Rosa withdrew her gaze and invited Robert: "Shall I invite you to dinner?"

Robert pointed to the dining car: "You didn't eat?"

"No." Rosa took Robert's arm and left.

Passing by the open-air dressing area, Adam Smith was taking off his costume when he saw Rosa coming over and said hello: "Hi, Rosa, where are you going?"

Rosa stopped: "Go and eat."

Adam Smith looked at Rosa's curvy figure, then at the ugly man with the big head following behind, and showed a charming smile: "Just in time, I'm going to have dinner too, can I treat you?"

Rosa's eyes fell on his passerby costume, and she declined politely: "Sorry, I have an appointment."

Adam Smith looked down at the costume. He wanted to throw it away but it didn't fit. He was used to being a leading actor and then he played such a statusless passerby role. There was a huge psychological gap.

Ward came from the side and whispered: "Boyet's subordinate Diego called and asked us to pick up the goods at night. The watches from those high-end clubs like the new goods very much."

"I know." The male protagonist of Gray Company's late-night drama does not earn a particularly high salary. Adam Smith's decent life comes partly from working part-time in high-end clubs and helping others deliver goods.

Ward asked tentatively: "Do you want to cut it off over there?"

Adam Smith didn't care: "A big star like Marlon Brando could do it in a low profile back then. What should I be afraid of?" He patted Ward on the shoulder: "It's easy to get on this boat, but it's hard to get off."
