Aura had also gained a great many levels from the destruction of the city as he had been judged as partially responsible for the death of each individual.

Even a single percent of all that experience would be an astronomical sum, much less the minimum ten percent he had been assigned.

He'd skyrocketed to level 398 and was nearly to the next level.

Many people liked the experience system in Ascendance because it was perfectly scaled.

You didn't need bonus experience for killing a higher leveled creature, since the experience value was so much greater already.

There were no numbers displayed for the players, but the experience bar made it very clear that the system's evaluation of experience gained was equal to the difficulty of the challenge.

Sneaking in and assassinating a king would give far more experience then simply killing a man the same strength.

Battling with someone will give experience equal to the difficulty of the fight.

Even studying and working as an artisan will give experience.

Many people levelled up without even trying due to passive experience gained by simply living and learning.

This made it painfully obvious that those below level ten were players, as any a.d.u.l.t NPC is higher leveled.

Children are different, but few children play Ascendance in child avatars, since children are restricted in many ways a.d.u.l.ts are not.

Aura was now almost certainly the highest leveled player in the game, though he'd still fall behind any level 100 advanced player with decent skills.

The first class advancement was the most significant, as it determines your future path far more than any subsequent advancements.

Thus, it gives the greatest bonuses.

Aura, on the other hand, would gain absolutely nothing every 100 levels, pushing him even further behind.

Though, after seeing the experience gained from city destruction, Aura was more than tempted to do it again.

A dozen destroyed cities would push him beyond level 1000, which would be quite useful.

For the meantime however, all major cities would be on high alert for threats, so Aura didn't exactly have the freedom for a repeat performance.

He could of course, create a magical plague and infect a city or two, but then he would be judged guilty by the system, and the crime value for something like that was a big deal.

Though, thinking about it, Aura came to a brilliant conclusion.

In Ascendance, there were no war crimes, countries did what was necessary to win, and nothing would be judged as a criminal action.

Thus, all Aura had to do was provoke a war between countries, sign up as a soldier of one, and completely destroy the other.

Due to Aura's level and unique experience and knowledge, he could pull off things he had never dreamed of in his past life.

The players shook up the order of the realms, they grew in power insanely quick, gaining levels and skills far faster than the residents, and for a rather obvious reason.

To players, death is an inconvinience, while to NPCs death is terrifying.

Thus, players grow at such a rate because they can be reckless and get themselves killed without fear.

NPCs at high levels were unlikely to get themselves involved with an individual such as Aura, due to the fact that he would most likely have numerous backup plans should they attack him.

And most of these backup plans would likely be dangerous and insane, with all sorts of monstrous actions crammed into each trap.

His lack of morality would mean that he wouldn't hesitate to violate laws and taboos.

He was simply too troublesome to deal with.

Powerful entities lived long lives and thus did not care for minor matters such as a war in the first realm.

If Aura could utilise this apathy to his advantage, he could reach heights unheard of before.

It would shake things up if someone showed up in the seceond realm for the first time at level five thousand.

And this wasn't standard grinding either, Aura would be manipulating massive countries into full blown war with each other.

Then he would be using the war and his temporary postition as a soldier to completely destroy one of the countries.

The only question was: which countries would be going to war?
