A week later, and everything was going well.

Fiona had successfully advanced her class.

Laura had depth perception.

And Aura had successfully spread some rumours.

The only problem was that a raid group from the guild Heart's Light had broken one of his barriers and raided his base.

He hadn't lost anything important or valuable, but it was the principle of the matter.

Heart's Light had screwed him over numerous times in his past life.

They were insufferable pricks who believed that they were the greatest guild in the game, and that Aura was just a cowardly failure, taking on rejected requests.

They believed that he was feeding of their scraps, and thus tried to keep him in his place.

It never ended well for either party, but the guild had never stopped f.u.c.k.i.n.g him over.

In this life, they had no rivalry, but Heart's Light had apparently found his barrier and thought,

'If there's a barrier, it must be protecting something valuable.'

And broke into his house and stole his shit.

Aura had thus filed an official complaint with the government.

The government, as usual refused to intervene, but did give permission to retaliate.

The law on warded facilities outside of the country's protection was harsh, but so long as you went through the proper channels, you wouldn't be punished for the crimes committed during the conflict.

The government basically took a stance of: 'This isn't our problem, so settle it amongst yourselves.'

This meant that external conflicts that didn't harm their cities didn't bother them.

But if you didn't give them notice beforehand, the system would count your attacks as crimes and give you crime value.

Once you have permission, however, anything goes.

Even mass murder.

Laura's class by the way, is Noble of the Night, an advanced vampire class.

Mystery solved.

So one level 400 classless, a Shapeshifter and a Noble of the Night walked into a guild hall.

They massacred everyone.

That was more or less the plan.

Aura still had some poison left over from his dragon slaying trip and this would be good infiltration experience for Fiona.

Aura could use a great many illusion spells, so he would be sneaking in while Laura and Fiona distract the idiots.

His job was to exterminate the guild's higher ups as well as to send a message that people shouldn't f.u.c.k with other people's houses.

Written in blood.

And after they left, the poison would start to do its work.

Nobody would be left.

But there was a bit of a problem with the current plan.

Fiona was hopelessly bad at acting.

Even the lessons hadn't made much of a dent.

Apparently, the main problem was that she worried too much about how she was doing, and it caused her character to slip.

This was, as could be imagined, a rather terrible problem that would need a solution as soon as possible.

Fortunately, worry, and the panic it could cause, were things that could be helped with the use of spells and enchantments.

At its core, worry and panic stemmed from fear, and fear was something that many monsters could cause.

Thus, there was a tried and true method to deal with these sorts of problems.

A bracelet of the calm mind would allow an individual to function under harsh, fear inducing environs.

It would not get rid of the fear, but it would suppress it to the point that the wearer would not be impeded by it.

They were also not that hard to make, and the only rare component was a mind attributed catalyst crystal, but thanks to the dragon's hoard, Aura actually had one.

Thus a simple crafting session should be able to help.

In Aura's eyes, it was nice to, every once in a while, to have a normal, simple problem to deal with like this.

Stage fright was not uncommon, and it was quite troublesome, but here in this magical realm, it was a simple, easy fix.

Small, normal problems like this reminded Aura of why he loved Ascendance so much.

Everything could be fixed, with enough time and effort, and often seemingly simple problems would send you on an epic quest.

The world was stunningly beautiful with forests and mountains and plains, things that in the real world, had been defiled by roads, telephone lines and all sorts of garbage.

But here in Ascendance, the air was clean, the forests were free of garbage, and there were all sorts of wonderful things out there, waiting to be discovered.

It was a truly beautiful thing.

And when Aura looked at the night sky and saw the stars, he knew.

That he'd do anything to make it real.
