Brotherly Disrespect – Chapter 17

ianne8-10 minutes 04.06.2023

Waking up the next day, Xie Wenyu found that his brother had already returned to his own bed.

Xie Wenyu rubbed his shoulders, the heavy feeling of being imprisoned all night seems to still be there. He couldn’t help complaining: “You should drink less in the future.”

After entering middle school, Xie Wenyu seldom slept in the same bed with his brother. Last night, Xie Wenyu was hugged by his brother all night. Xie Wenyu felt a little embarrassed recalling it: “You didn’t realize that it was me you were hugging in your arms last night?”

Xie Wenkai, who was packing his luggage, paused when he heard this.

Xie Wenyu: “Ge, tell me the truth, anyway, I won’t tell our parents.”

Xie Wenkai stood up and looked at Xie Wenyu who was still sitting on the bed with a chicken nest on his head: “What truth?”

Xie Wenyu: “You said before that you like the same sex, so you must have met a man who moved your heart, right?”

Xie Wenkai without hesitation: “En.”

Xie Wenyu: “Did you think of me as that person last night?”

Xie Wenkai stopped speaking.

Xie Wenyu treated this as his brother tacitly agreeing: “Where is he from? Is he a classmate with you?”

Xie Wenkai walked to the bedside and raised his hand to ruffle Xie Wenyu’s hair even more messily.

Xie Wenyu: “What are you doing?”

Xie Wenkai only answered one question: “I do have someone I like.”

Xie Wenyu looked up at his brother: “Why don’t you confess?”

Xie Wenkai withdrew his hand: “He will be scared.”

It makes sense, not every man can accept that he is liked by someone of the same sex. Xie Wenyu nodded pretending to be mature, expressing his understanding of his brother’s thoughts.

But at the same time, a feeling of sadness rose in his heart.

It turns out that his brother really has someone he likes.

It’s one thing to conjecture last night, but it’s another thing to hear his brother say it himself. Although he really didn’t want to admit it, when Xie Wenyu learned that his brother didn’t intend to confess, he felt a sense of joy besides being disappointed.

Xie Wenyu thinks, his brother looks good, has good grades, and a good family background, no matter who he falls in love with, it must be the other party taking advantage.

So it’s better for his brother to be a high mountain flower that no one can pluck away.

Back in New York, a new semester begins.

Xie Wenyu and his brother have different schedules. They live together but only meet each other at night.

The main reason is that Xie Wenkai would come home late. Xie Wenyu was ready to sleep every time he came back. The time they could talk was only a few minutes.

At ten o’clock that night, Xie Wenyu was lying on the bed. The house was empty, and he was alone.

Xie Wenyu’s thoughts flew along with the wind blowing outside the window. He couldn’t help but think, is his brother really so busy with his studies?

He won’t go on a date with the person he likes, will he?

Thinking of this, Xie Wenyu couldn’t fall asleep.

Xie Wenyu had no class the next day. After breakfast, he went into his room and changed his clothes. After changing, he came out and said to Xie Wenkai, “Ge, I will go to school with you today.”

Xie Wenkai: “What are you going to do?”

Xie Wenyu: “I want to visit a prestigious school.”

Xie Wenkai: “I have a meeting in the morning and two classes in the afternoon, so I don’t have time to take you with me.”

Xie Wenyu: “You don’t need to take me with you, I can just walk around by myself.”

Xie Wenkai looked at him for a few seconds, unable to figure out the ultimate goal of this guy, “Up to you.”

Xie Wenyu got his wish and followed his brother to school. At noon, Xie Wenkai took him to have a meal, and a classmate of Xie Wenkai was sitting next to them in the restaurant.

Through chatting, Xie Wenyu learned that this person is a college classmate of his brother, a British named Damien, who is studying for an MBA just like his brother.

After the meal, Xie Wenkai will go to class with Damien. Xie Wenyu grabbed his brother’s clothes and asked if he could attend.

Xie Wenkai: “Did you take the wrong medicine today?”

Xie Wenyu: “No way?”

Xie Wenkai: “Can you understand?”

Xie Wenyu: “Who are you looking down!”

They spoke Chinese. Damien on the side asked puzzledly, “What are you guys talking about?”

Xie Wenyu turned to look at Damien, his tone seemed to be complaining: “I want to go to class with you, but my Ge thinks I don’t understand.”

Damien smiled: “It doesn’t matter whether you understand or not, you just want to feel the atmosphere of our classroom, right?”

Xie Wenyu: “Exactly.”

A smile flashed across Xie Wenkai’s eyes. He let him follow.

During the class, Xie Wenyu sat on the right side of his brother, and Damien sat on the left side of his brother. This class takes three hours, and Xie Wenyu became sleepy after listening for half an hour. He held his face, trying not to let himself fall on the table.

During the ten-minute break, Damien said to Xie Wenyu, “Come on, let’s move to the last row.”

Xie Wenyu blinked his sleepy eyes.

“The front row is reserved for good students,” Damien pointed to the back row, “There is reserved for lazy students.”

Xie Wenyu turned to look at his brother.

Xie Wenkai was still copying notes. Without raising his head, he said, “Go sleep in the back.”

Xie Wenyu immediately grabbed his schoolbag and slipped to the back row with Damien. There were still five minutes before class. They chatted for a while and followed each other’s Instagram accounts.

Damien clicked on Xie Wenyu’s homepage, browsed and said, “Actually, I have seen you last year.”

Xie Wenyu: “Huh?”

“I saw your photo on your brother’s phone.” Damien clicked on a certain post of Xie Wenyu last year, pointed to the photo of Xie Wenyu and An Ran, and said, “This is it.”

Xie Wenyu: “Why did my Ge show you my photo?”

Damien: “I saw it by accident. The girl sitting next to you is your girlfriend, right?”

Xie Wenyu: “It was then, but not now.”

Damien: “Your brother also said he couldn’t tell. Something this obvious, what’s hard to tell?”

Xie Wenyu: “What?”

Damien: “At that time your brother looked at this photo for a long time. I asked him what kind of relationship you two have, and he said he couldn’t tell.”

Xie Wenyu caught the point: “A long time?”

Damien: “Well, not for a long time. It’s just that he is rarely in a daze, but at noon that day, he was in a daze for a while looking at your photo.”

Xie Wenyu was a little bewildered.

After a few seconds, he asked: “My brother really said he couldn’t tell the relationship between me and the girl in the photo?”

Damien nodded.

Xie Wenyu thought, at that time, his brother really didn’t know that he was with An Ran.

But even if he didn’t know, in this photo, he and An Ran are sitting so close, the atmosphere between the two is different, even a stranger like Damien can notice a thing or two, but Xie Wenkai couldn’t tell?

In high school, his brother was the one who could think of puppy love just by looking at the envelope on the table.

Xie Wenyu turned off his phone and looked at his brother.

Leaning forward, Xie Wenkai was listening to the class with his chin propped up. From Xie Wenyu’s point of view, what he saw happened to be Xie Wenkai’s side profile.

Xie Wenkai’s side profile is very superior, with a smooth line formed from the brow bone to the bridge of the nose, and his jawline is as clear and sharp as a knife. At this moment, he frowned and pursed his lips, looking serious and concentrated, with a kind of charm that makes people unable to take their eyes off.

Xie Wenyu stared blankly for a long time.

Don’t know if he sensed Xie Wenyu’s gaze, but Xie Wenkai suddenly stopped writing and turned his head to look at him.

Xie Wenyu immediately lowered his head, staring at the black screen of his phone, not daring to look in Xie Wenkai’s direction anymore.
