Chapter 64: Being a Guest (Part 1)

As Gongxi Qiao’s assistant, He Peng knew that Gongxi Qiao had a good relationship with Xi Qing, but he wasn’t sure how good their relationship was.

The car drove into Xi Qing’s villa. Xi Qing’s villa was huge. After the car drove through the gate, it was only after passing through the garden that the building, which was surrounded by flowers and trees, could be seen. Two black-shirted bodyguards were standing outside the building’s gate. When they saw their car coming, they didn’t move, but suddenly two bodyguards appeared on the other side of the path and bent down to open the car door.

“Mr. Gongxi, welcome.”

He Peng noticed that the bodyguards were talking into miniature wireless earphones on their ears, and they were tall and carried a fierce aura. He couldn’t help but shiver in his heart. It seemed that their skills should be very good.

“Thanks.” Gongxi Qiao threw his jacket into the car. He turned around to see that He Peng and the others had very restrained and uncomfortable expressions, so he said, “You guys, go back and rest. You don’t have to pick me up tomorrow morning, just go directly to the crew and report.”

“Okay, Qiao Shao.” He Peng was relieved to learn that he didn’t have to follow Gongxi Qiao inside. He forced out a smile as he stepped on the gas pedal and drove the car out of the place called a villa, which could actually be called a manor.

It was only after leaving the tall fretwork carved gate of the Xi family that He Peng let out a long breath. “The bodyguards at President Xi’s house are really amazing. Those people are all professional talents.”

Jiang Long was sitting in the passenger seat. His ears twitched and he didn’t say anything.

The living room door opened. Gongxi Qiao saw Xi Qing coming down from upstairs. A cool breeze rushed out from behind the door and his back shivered.

“You don’t look too good.” Xi Qing walked up to him and asked the maid to turn up the thermostat and made Gongxi Qiao sit down on the sofa. “Are you sick?”

Gongxi Qiao nodded. “Probably just a little cold.” He knew his own body well. This cold wasn’t too serious. He just didn’t sleep well last night and shot two or three hours of scenes continuously today, so his body was a bit overwhelmed.

A maid came down with a medical kit and blanket. Xi Qing put the blanket over Gongxi Qiao, then picked up the oral thermometer, disinfected it, and made Gongxi Qiao take it. “What do you want to eat at noon? I’ll ask the chef to make it for you.”

Gongxi Qiao pointed to his mouth and spread his hands.

Xi Qing saw the situation and nodded. “If your body temperature is high, you need to eat something mild.” He thought for a moment. “Do you want to watch TV?”

Gongxi Qiao’s taste in food wasn’t particularly mild, so after hearing that lunch might be on the mild side, his brow furrowed and he looked a little aggrieved.

Amused by his expression, Xi Qing handed him the remote control. “What do you want to watch? You can pick it yourself.”

Gongxi Qiao turned on the TV. By coincidence, the channel was showing ‘Immortal Mountain Courtyard’. The episode on the screen was him wearing a white outfit and cooly killing the enemy.

When he first filmed ‘Immortal Mountain Courtyard’, he felt that his performance wasn’t bad. However, after joining the ‘Cultivation’ crew, he realized that although both of them were immortal-themed works, overall they weren’t on the same level.

Of course, this had something to do with the fact that the investors of ‘Cultivation’ were very wealthy.

He turned his head to look at Xi Qing and found that Xi Qing was also staring at the screen, looking serious. Gongxi Qiao gave a dry cough and took the thermometer out of his mouth. “Do you like this TV show?”

“It’s good.” Xi Qing frowned. “It’s just that the character Chen Liu’an is too noisy and annoying.”

“A lot of people like that character.” Gongxi Qiao lifted the thermometer and looked at it. The temperature was normal, no fever.

In ‘Immortal Mountain Courtyard’, Chen Liu’an, the Male Lead A character, was very popular with teenage fans. Gongxi Qiao played the Male Lead B character who, in comparison, had more fans in the over-20 age group. That was why after the drama aired, fans on both sides always disliked each other, and eventually it developed to the point where Zheng Lei hired a water army to step on him and smear him, creating a fiasco.

Xi Qing took the thermometer from Gongxi Qiao. After seeing that the temperature was within the normal range, his expression finally relaxed. “I’ll have someone make you a cup of cold medicine.”

Gongxi Qiao nodded and pressed on the remote control to change the channel. After overhearing a host mention Bai Zhong’s name on a certain channel, he stopped with some curiosity.

“It is reported that Bai Zhong, the president of the Bai Group, has expressed great dissatisfaction with this incident, and even believes that the investigation’s data is incorrect. The follow-up development of this matter is under investigation. Today we have invited several relevant experts to participate in the discussion for this incident……”

Gongxi Qiao wasn’t in the mood to continue to pay attention to what else the host said later. What made him more surprised was how this matter made it onto the relevant National Station channels, with experts participating in the discussion, considering the Bai family’s status. The situation seemed to be irregular.

“The Bai family……” Gongxi Qiao hesitated for a moment. “The higher-ups are going to settle accounts with them?”

“It’s only a matter of time,” Xi Qing said calmly. “The Bai family’s behavior has long exceeded the bottom line of the prestigious families’ code of conduct. The Imperial Capital can’t tolerate him, and other families can’t tolerate him either.”

Gongxi Qiao nodded in agreement. He looked up to see the maid bringing over freshly squeezed juice. He took a sip before saying, “You’re not working today?”

“Mm-hm.” Xi Qing nodded. “You watch TV for a while. I’m going upstairs.”

Work was never done, but with some things, if you didn’t seize the opportunity, you might regret it.

It only took about five minutes for him to go upstairs and come back down. When Xi Qing came back to the living room, he saw that Gongxi Qiao had fallen asleep on the sofa, but his sleeping appearance was very beautiful. He was lying on his side and his head was leaning against the sofa pillow. He seemed very peaceful.

After pulling up the blanket covering him, Xi Qing took the remote control and reduced the volume. He took a book out of the drawer and sat quietly on the sofa to read it.

However, after turning a few pages of the book, he hesitated and switched the TV channel to the station that had been playing ‘Immortal Mountain Courtyard’. Unfortunately, Gongxi Qiao didn’t appear on the screen at this time. He tilted his head and looked at the person lying next to him and simply turned off the TV and read the book quietly.
