FH Chapter 18 : 逃婚!

Flee from an arranged marriage!

Li Jin Hu only knew his opponent’s surname as Xiao. The wild man sent him down and soon disappeared. He didn’t leave a single word behind, but Li Jin Hu felt that he must be a good person.

Li Haitang was half-believing, half-doubting; not quite convinced by her little brother’s words, but she had no other choice. If she could sit in the wild man’s house, even in the courtyard for half a night, it was better than wandering around and meeting wild animals.

“My grandaunt ah, you must hurry! We can’t afford to shoulder the responsibility if it’s delayed!”

When the granny saw Li Haitang’s polite words, her anger dissipated, for after all, when Li Haitang married, she was the head of the Qin family. Li Haitang then could only obey whatever she was told.

“I know, it won’t take too long!”

Li Haitang assured her, and then, with the help of a maid, she walked into the grass. She took off her corolla (ornamental crown worn by a bride on her wedding day) and her wedding dress, revealing a glimpse of red in the grass, and ran deftly into the hills under the cover of the grass while the maid was far away.

When she had run some distance away, she looked down and saw the granny walking back and forth under the carriage, seemingly anxious. She pfft, smiled and followed the path deeper into the remote mountain.

Here, the granny waited for a long time but no one was there. She called out twice but got no response so she ran to the grass tree to take a look. She then became anxious, therefore, immediately, she let out a wail that the bride had disappeared!

The Qin family’s servants were shocked and frightened, so the woman /granny found someone to report to the Qin staff first; only then did she lead them around like headless flies (a metaphor for sb who is rushing around frantically), looking for someone. They were not familiar with the Li Jia Village, so they went straight to the Li family to ask for help.

Li Haitang didn’t care about the conflict between the two families, she hummed a little tune all the way to the mountain, after getting rid of those fools, a big stone fell in her heart. She waited for night to come as she went down the hill or the mountain, followed the address and went to the county house to hide for a while.

In late autumn, the grass is withered and yellow. A cold wind is blowing on the mountain. Li Haitang wore only pure white inner clothes, made of silk. On the way, she was scraped by the branches of trees.

The hills behind Li Jia village are uninhabited and there is only a narrow path between the hills, full of medicinal herbs; as she casually scanned the area, she saw wild panax pseudoginseng, astragalus and chrysanthemum, especially chrysanthemum, which has a strong effect on insect and snake bites and bruises that she picked some at random.

The mountains are so big that it took nearly a day to walk around. Li Haitang had no idea how crazy the Qin family was looking for her. When Mr. Qin learned that his bride had escaped, and he was furious. He sent almost all of his subordinates to the house and informed the magistrate and also Yamen, government office in feudal China. He said that he had been set up by the Li family and that the trap was a fairy trick (a trick to cheat a man out of his money and valuables using a woman as a decoy.)

The old Li lady, who had never seen such a scene before, was so frightened that she dared not speak a word and sit, then she immediately said that she would deliver the bride.

“That little bitch, Haitang, is just good looking, but our Qiu Ju is not going to lose to Haitang. She will definitely be able to give birth to a big fat boy!”

Old Madame Li couldn’t understand how Li Haitang had the guts to run away. She also couldn’t understand even more that Counselor Qin had unexpectedly reported the case directly to the authorities. This time, if they couldn’t find the person, the entire Li family had to enter the prison.

“Our Qiu Ju is even prettier than Haitang!”

Qiu Ju was Li Haitang’s female elder cousin and the daughter of Liu, her eldest aunt. When Liu heard that her daughter had to carry the can, she immediately rolled her eyes and almost fainted.

“Mother, Qiu Ju is your granddaughter, how can she not….”

It was obviously a happy day, but Liu couldn’t help herself, covering her face and crying, hating Li Haitang from the depth of her heart. That little bitch blackmailed her for five taels of silver yet she fled without a word, and wanted to make her daughter bear responsibility for others or in other words act as scapegoat. How dare she (Ridiculous)!
