“Look at this mouth of mine ah, what kind of words that I am saying!”

                    

Widow Sun repeatedly shaked her head and use her hand to slap her face lightly, looking at Liu, whose face was like the bottom of a black pot, therefore she changed her tone, “You can’t change the person as your wish or one sidedly, your family Qiu Ju is willing, but what if Mr. Qin doesn’t like her?”

 

Qiu Ju is not as good as Li Haitang in terms of looks and attitude. Her body is just passable; barely satisfactory compare to the others. Who is Mr. Qin? His family has money and he has relationships with many women. He doesn’t like an ordinary country girl.

 

The Sun widow’s words hit Liu right in the face. She had just been worried about her daughter, but now, her heart was completely cold.

 

“Get out, get out of here, get the hell out of here! Our Li family’s affairs are not for you to interfere with, you, this a jinx to your husband bad luck star woman!”

 

Old Mrs. Li was completely enraged. She could not afford to offend Counselor Qin and the officials too, but could she not afford to offend a widow? She took a look at the wall, picked up the broom she used to sweep the yard, and threw it at the widow, “Get out of here, get out!”

 

The widow was unable to dodge and received two blows on her body, causing her to look up at the top of her head and grimace in pain. But she was not somebody who was easy to deal with either so she shouted at the top of her voice, “Villagers, come and see! The old lady of the Li family is being unreasonable and gets angry at an outsider!”

 

“Damn woman, look how I’ll tear up your mouth off!”

 

She had been holding her anger in her heart for quite some time, Old Mrs. Li now completely exploded, glaring at Liu who was in a daze, “Why don’t you come over here and help me!”

 

As soon as she heard this, Liu reacted quickly. Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, one in front of the other, both are companion to search a house and confiscate possessions, run after the Sun widow who was running in front of her.

 

“Li Haitang has run away from the arranged marriage, the old lady of the Li family has sold her granddaughter so this time, if she doesn’t have enough money to pay it back this time, she’ll be imprisoned!”

 

Sun (孫) widow shouted as she ran, and incidentally report the news, “Li Haitang has taken a liking to our Sun Xing, and the two almost eloped, but my son hate it if he has to leave me…”

 

Anyway, Sun Xing is a man and already married too, so doesn’t need to care about his reputation that much. Sun’s widow actually was more sympathetic to Li Haitang.  Because of that, so she didn’t say anything to anyone but today, she was forced, that’s why she revealed everything!

 

The Widow Sun’s voice is too loud, and with the Li family’s drama, everyone in the village is concerned, so it turns out that there is something between Li Haitang and Sun Xing.

 

A woman who is not married, however, has the courage to elope, whether it is true or not, but the reputation is completely ruined.

The sun was setting in the west, the sky was a faint haze of purple mists and cloud, the wind in the mountains was cool, mixed with the fragrance of flowers and grasses, with a hint of chill.

 

As Li Haitang walked around the mountain, she got quite a lot of harvest. She wove a small basket with twigs, cushioned with a thick layer of leaves, and put all the day’s harvest in the basket.

 

Apart from the herbs, Li Haitang also picked some wild fruits, among them hawthorn, which was so sour and appetizing so she just tasted it.

 

Apart from that, there were many walnuts and wild chinese chestnuts on the mountain, and the harvest season was so bountiful that it looked like she could get by for the night by setting up a random fire and burning chestnuts.

 

The mountain was damp and full of mosquitoes and ants, so Li Haitang found a dry stone platform behind a tall pine tree, and thought it would be safer to nest in the branches of the tree at night than down there, otherwise she would not be able to escape in time if she met a wild animal.

 

She had flee from an arranged married so the Li family must have panicked because she had run away from the wedding and they would not be able to explain to the Qin family since the auspicious time was delayed. Perhaps, they are now in a state of terrible situation. 

 

However, that was none of her business! It doesn’t make sense for her to sacrifice herself to help a family of wolves and tigers, (fierce and cruel people) just because she has lost her parents, can people bully her and her little brother just like that?

    

Li Haitang was disappointed, they say that what people care the most in ancient times is patriarchal clan but since she was sold, not a single person speak on her behalf. Moreover, the villagers were mostly spectators who watch the excitement or fun only.
