Chapter 44 Blazing Flames

"Who are you!?"

Rhaenyra exclaimed in low voice and quickly distanced herself.

Elic grabbed her, put a black robe on her hastily, and forced her to escape through the back door.

“Who are you and where are you taking me?”

Rhaenyra struggled hard and glared at Ilic, whose face could not be seen clearly.

Ilic was helpless and showed his face and warned: "Someone saw you sneaking into the Red Castle with Prince Daemon. Prince Rhaegar sent me to bring you back."

 “Did Rhaegar send you?”

Rhaenyra was startled when she heard this, and her expression relaxed.

Ilic said: "The situation is urgent, you'd better keep quiet and don't let anyone discover your identity."

Rhaenyra nodded repeatedly and kept up the pace.

Out of the back door, a beggar boy leaned weakly against the wall.

Ilic stood in front of Rhaenyra, grabbed the beggar boy's hair, lifted him up, and slammed him against the wall.

Blood spurted out, and the beggar boy collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

“He is just a little beggar?” Rhaenyra said blankly.

“The whole city knows that ninety-nine percent of the beggars near brothels and casinos are spies.”

Ilic turned around and said, "He's not dead, he just fainted."

Rhaenyra breathed a sigh of relief and ignored the little beggar.

“It’s on fire, put out the fire quickly…”

“There’s a fire in the backyard, come quickly…”

   …”

Having not gone very far, a fire broke out in the center of the brothel.

As the night wind blew, the fire grew bigger and bigger. Soon it spread to the surrounding streets and ignited the houses.

Amidst the panic and shouting, the sleeping people had no time to get dressed, so they picked up buckets and joined the firefighting team.

The scene gradually became chaotic. Ilic took a deep breath and took Rhaenyra to avoid the people putting out the fire and sneak along the alley.

On the other side, Alec threw the torch through the window on the second floor of the brothel, turned around and disappeared into the night.

  Arson is his task tonight.

Although it was a loss of knightly honor, his brother brought Prince Rhaegar's order, and he had no reason to refuse.

He took a fancy to the young king's eldest son.

Whether it was the etiquette or the feeling it gave him, he was willing to work for it.

 As for Prince Aegon?

That was only the protection arranged by the king and was not worthy of his allegiance.

 The wind has changed.

 …

Ilic and Rhaenyra ran all the way and met a group of golden robes who came to put out the fire.

 “Avoid them.”

Elic reminded in a low voice, turned and entered another narrow alley.

As soon as he raised his head, he saw a man in gold robe walking alone.

“Who’s there, and what are you doing sneakily?”

A familiar voice sounded. Rhaenyra looked at Harwin's face.

Ilic subconsciously blocked Rhaenyra behind him and threatened: "Get out of the way, this is not your business."

Harwin pulled out his long sword and sneered: "What a big tone, you dare to go against the city guard."

As a heroic knight, Harwin is extremely skilled and is not afraid of any challenge.

Elic naturally recognizes the other party, but the prerequisite of the mission is to conceal his whereabouts, and he cannot take the initiative to reveal his identity.

The hand under the robe touched the hilt of the sword, and Ilic was ready to take action at any time.

“Don’t be like this, we are friends!”

When the tension was at stake, Rhaenyra ignored Ilic's obstruction and ran between the two to stop them.

As soon as she made a sound, Harwin was stunned and asked in confusion: "Princess, why is it you again?"

Rhaenyra took off her hood and said awkwardly: "I don't have time to explain to you. Daemon and I got separated. Fortunately, the accompanying Kingsguard found me."

She is not stupid enough to know how to cover up the truth.

Harwin looked at Ilic carefully and smiled at Rhaenyra: "In that case, princess, let's go first, I still have to put out the fire."

 “Thank you, Sir Harwin.”

Rhaenyra was not in the mood to reminisce about the past, so she pulled the livid Ilic away.

Looking at the backs of the two of them, Harwin frowned in confusion, glanced at the fire in the distance, and couldn't help but think.

 …

The fire spread on Silk Street, alerting the capital garrison. After hearing the news, all the golden robes in the city rushed to join the fire-fighting team.

The work lasted until midnight before the raging fire was stopped.

The brothel at the source of the fire had been burned to the ground, leaving only the blackened stone shelves.

Together with more than a dozen nearby houses, they were all engulfed in fire.

Fortunately, the area was densely populated and the fire was discovered immediately, causing no casualties.

Before this, Alik, who set the fire, had already met his brother at the Red Fort.

The two looked at each other and smiled, saying nothing.

 In two directions respectively.

Ilic took Rhaenyra back to her room along the secret passage.

Thunderbolt walked to the edge of the floor-to-ceiling window and looked at the fire in King's Landing.

He knew that it was the Elik brothers who did it.

He is the mastermind of this fire.

Rhaenyra fell into Daemon's trap, and someone was secretly watching the two.

Under normal means, no matter how Rhaegar searched for Rhaenyra, he would always be caught.

Because where Rhaenyra is, there must be someone watching her.

 Especially that brothel.

Rhaenyra's sneaking out could not be concealed. Too many people saw her whereabouts.

Rhaegar only needed to cut off the traces of Rhaenyra and Daemon entering and leaving the brothel.

A fire that consumes everything will swallow up any trace.

Even if someone were to prove that Rhaenyra had been to a brothel, who would be able to identify the authenticity from a pile of rubble?

And Rhaegar's duty was to come to Rhaenyla's room in advance and provide her with an alibi.

Until then, their father Viserys would silence anyone who dared to accuse Rhaenyra without evidence.

Crunch—

The wall at the entrance to the secret passage rotated, and Rhaegar quickly turned his head.

What came into view was the long-awaited Ilic and Rhaenyra.

 “Rhaenayla, you are finally back.”

Rhaegar smiled when he saw his sister, and the big stone hanging in his heart fell to the ground.

He was afraid that Rhaenyra would be seduced by Daemon and would not come back with Ilic.

It seemed that Rhaenyra did not disappoint him.

“Rhaegar, how did you know I sneaked out?”

Rhaenyra looked at her brother in surprise, tearing off her black robe, and asked in confusion.

Rhaegar looked at Ilic who had closed the secret passage.

Ilic said in a low voice: "There are so many people with mixed eyesight that I didn't have time to explain to the princess."

Rhaegar nodded: "Is the plan going well, ser?"

“It went pretty smoothly, but we met Harwin Strong on patrol midway, and the princess’s identity was exposed.”

Ilik's tone was filled with self-blame.

Rhaegar lowered his head and said nothing, wondering if Harwin would talk nonsense and whether he should give a warning.

That guy is the eldest son of Prime Minister Leonor and the heir of Harrenhal.

In any case, with his father's achievements and his own identity, Rhaegar could not think of silencing him.

Looking at the riddle-like conversation between the two, Rhaenyra whispered: "Harwin is Leonor's son. He respects me very much. He should not talk nonsense."

 “That’s best.” Rhaegar smiled softly.

Leonor is indeed a trustworthy man, and his son should also be a smart man.

Rhaenyra approached Rhaegar, her bright eyes flashing, pretending to be the majesty of an eldest sister: "Who told you the secret, and this fire, were all your arrangements?"

Rhaenyra kept thinking about these things on the way back.

Ilik suddenly appeared, and the fire happened at the right time.

Now seeing Rhaegar in her room, Rhaenyra realized that he had something to do with it.

“I have my own plans as an informant, so I can’t tell you now.”

Rhaegar hid the truth about Xiliu. He was a strange person, so it would be wrong to alert him too early.

Then he said with a straight face: "I did the fire, and I'm protecting you!"
