After the Literature and Arts festival, Wang Wei, Xue Rong and I did not speak to each other. They both were acting out the secret history of the Qing Dynasty (reference to them acting as Empress Cixi and Li Lianying who were a part of the Qing Dynasty). In the meantime I continued my rotten university girl lifestyle. We all had bright futures after all.

The week after examinations were over, Xue Rong finally changed to a real Hermes bag, although it was only a regularly available one that could be found anywhere, she still took it to class everyday.

Our course workbook is quite heavy, when she carries the bag around she would also have to hold the book in her arms, who knew what she was hoping for.

In relation to the thing about Xue Rong being Song Groups prized treasure, it was quite a popular topic for a while at our school. But after people gossiped about it for a while, everyone had fully ascertained that she was a rich second generation heir.

I had well and truly become speechless, just by attending university, I had lost my father.

As the weekend approached, the dean suddenly came to find me.

As I entered the office, I saw that Xue Rong was also there.

[Student Song, you have arrived ah. It’s like this, our school’s new students participate in a science project competition every year. It is exactly what you all call the project.]

[Your classmate Xue Rong has already applied so you shouldn’t try to make another team.]

Xue Rong proudly laughed: [My apologies Anran, Wei Wei and found a few manual arts students and we have already submitted our team.]

[Oh, does participating in the competition have rules that state that each class can only have one team.]

The dean shook his head: [That’s not the case.]

[Then why can’t I participate? If I put my name down, how would that get in Xue Rong’s things?]

The dean frowned: [How could you be so inconsiderate? You’re not a little child, how could you not understand this principle?]

[What is the good in having too many people participating in one university? There is only one team that participates each year, stop trying to be special. If you submit an enrolment form, I will not approve it.]

I snorted coldly: [So it’s probably Xue Rong who doesn’t want me to participate right. I seriously didn’t know that the school is surnamed Xue right now.]

The dean became angry when he heard what I said and started to sternly speak harsh words to scare me: [Is this how you talk to teachers? The school has a limited budget, it’s not for you to casually waste. Xue Rong is academically and morally excellent, her teammates also had highschool competition experiences, this would make getting an award a lot easier. Why are you joining in to make a mess of things?]

I took the application, holding it up in my hand: [Since Teacher Lin won’t approve the application, I will take it to to find Xu Shuji to have it approved, surely I would be able to find someone who can approve it.]

[You stop right there!]

The dean also got angry, his sparse hair at the top of his head stuck to his ford, his fat face tinged red like a potato that was growing sprouts.

[What good things can I say about you! If you go about society like this you will suffer, you can’t react impulsively. You also know of student Xue Rong’s family background, if she participates in the competition she can be assisted, how can someone who is of ordinary background compare. If we can negotiate for you to withdraw from the competition, when it comes to looking for a career, Xue Rong will remember your small act of kindness today.]

[Is that so, Student Xue Rong?]

The dean hurriedly gave Xue Rong a glance, Xue Rong nodded sensibly: [Teacher is right.]

What does this sort of thing count as?

Using my family’s name, to help me out?

I now well and truly admired Xue Rong, if it wasn’t because the family registrar had my father and my name, I would have truly believed that she was a second generation heir.]

I didn’t think that they both would work together. I directly slapped the enrolment form on the table: [Teacher, since you think so highly of Xue Rong’s capabilities then we can both let us fight for this opportunity on equal footing.]

[Why won’t you just get it into your head!]

It seems to me that the dean would definitely not approve the enrolment form no matter what. Good thing I had initially found teammates from different faculties, later on I’ll give the paperwork to them to enrol us, it’s not different.

I restrained my anger, taking the enrollment form I had decided to leave. Xue Rong also followed me out.

She followed behind me, laughing as she said: [Anran, if you really want to participate, go beg Wang Wei, if she approves, I will let you join my team.]

I confusedly turned to look at her: [When you woke up this morning, did you forget to bring your brain?]
