HxH: King

Chapter 4 - Hello, Mr. Cloud

I yelped as the blinding light pierced into my eyes, though fortunately, the pain was only momentarily.

My exclamation prompted Magog to let me down.

Blinking away the lingering bright spots away from my vision, I noticed that I was lying near a small pond.

From it's clear blue surface, an angelic black haired brat stared right back at me with his bright sapphire like eyes.

It took me a moment to recognize that this was my reflection.

Thanks God that I didn't resemble Magog, that gruff Neanderthal, most probably inhariting most of the traits from my new mother that I never even got to know.

Well, not that I really cared for the unlucky wrench that was most definitely forced by Magog to bear his progeny.

Turning my attention away from the water, I realized what was the source of that blinding light.

It was the sun.

Finally, after spending the 6 long and torturous years underground, I was let out to the surface world.

Back in my previous life, I never held any appreciation for such mundane and little things but now - the mere notion of standing under the warm sunlight left me reeling in excitement.

Greedily taking in the sceneries around, I was captivated by what I saw.

We were standing in the middle of a lofty mountain which was surrounded by a verdant jungle of exotic towering trees.

Above them, a flight of birds took off into the air, synchronously forming enthralling shapes on their way. Somewhere in the distance, the green jungles were replaced by a body of azure water that stretched endlessly beyond the horizon.

Quite frankly, I was never a fan of nature and would gladly choose the hustle and bustle of a big city over this utopian paradise.

Though for now, I was more than content staying anywhere other than the stuffy tunnels of that dark cavern complex that I oh so unwillingly called "Home".

"Alright, enough wasting time!" barked Magog as he scooped me up once again.

Yet despite his words, instead of moving right away, he closed his eyes seemingly in concentration.

Nothing happened for a while and I was starting to get worried that he changed his mind and this was as far as we will go.

When suddenly his muscles started to unnaturally contract and expand, sending mild tremors throughout his body. The surrounding temperature visibly rose and I vaguely noticed what seemed to be a red skeletal silhouette of a monstrous kangaroo cover his frame.

Before I could properly ruminate over this hallucination, my previous worries were proven to be unfounded as Magog released all the pent up energy and shot up into the sky.

We were rapidly gaining altitude and without a shred of shame, I screamed like a little bitch as the land beneath us grew further and further away in this unrealistic reproduction of a freaking Hulk jump!

When we were about to hit the clouds, our ascent started to lose momentum and I managed to pause my screaming to chance a peek at the land below.

The place was an oval-shaped island with a mountain at its center, just like depicted on the wall painting in my baby room.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see much more before gravity finally won out against Magog's supernatural strength and we began our descent, plunging back to the ground at a breakneck speed.

"You insane motherf.u.c.ker, what have you done? We are going to die!" I yelled at the man as the hard surface grew ever closer.

"Dying is for the weak." he replied smugly as his muscles once again abnormally shifted around and that vague red silhouette covered his frame, though this time it looked like the skeleton of an overly buff four-armed gorilla.

When we were only a few meters away from the surface, his hand abruptly expanded and he threw an insanely powerful punch at the ground.

I was left to stare with my jaw agape as the air pressure from his attack splintered the towering trees and shredded the earth below, completely breaking the momentum of our decent.

Soon after, we gently landed down into the cloud of dust caused by his attack.

Magog let go of me and I powerless dropped down onto the ground in a heap of panting mess, trying to recover my breathing from all the screaming.

When the dust finally settled down, I was finally able to see the damage caused by that single punch.

A second ago, this place was a part of a lush jungle, an idealistic paradise teeming with nature and wildlife. Now though, it was nothing more than a messy and lifeless crater.

I stood there completely stunned, marveling at the level of devastation a single man could accomplish.

That was some superman level shit right there and I was giddy at the prospect of one day reaching the clouds with a single jump and demolishing huge tracts of land with my b.a.r.e fists.

"Well, have fun." Magog said plainly and completely vanished from my sight after the barely discernible silhouette surrounding him shifted into a mist of red and reformed into an oversized skeletal chameleon.

"Huh?!" I asked dumbly, "Hold it right there old man!"

Being left alone in the middle of nowhere quickly brought me out of my wet power fantasy.

"That crazy f.u.c.ker!" I cursed, kicking a stray rock into a thicket of trees in an attempt to quell my anger.

Unfortunately, even the blatant disrespect didn't get that foggy to come back.

Realizing that I was stranded here for good, I decided to make the most out of this situation.

Taking a look around outside the crater, the first thing I took note of was my home mountain that was loftily standing about 2 kilometers away from me.

Other than that, all I could see was trees and behind them were only more trees. It seems that whatever creatures inhabited this part of the jungle were properly scared off by Magog's demonstration of might.

"Now then, the f.u.c.k am I supposed to do now?"

Although I was quite excited to finally be free to roam outside but being stuck on a what seems to be an uninhabited island limited the choices of what I could do with this newfound freedom.

"Well, for now might as well try to find my way back to the mountain," I said, mostly to myself. A nasty habit I picked up after spending too much time alone with my thoughts.

With a clear destination in mind, I set out to experience the supposed dangers that this Island had to offer.
