It was when she was organizing the tables when no one came today that a sudden sound of the bell on the front door resounded. April turned towards the door and smiled.

“Welcome… huh?”

Without realizing it, the end of her voice rose up. The reason why was because the bakery owner, who had treated her badly, was the one who came into the cafe.  As she was standing hesitatingly, the little girl approached Asher, who was following behind April while she was cleaning the cafe.

“Asher, eat this!”

Bewildered, Asher answered and clasped the duster with both hands.

“What’s this?”

“It’s our bread! It’s delicious because it’s freshly baked.”

The child treated Asher without reserve, and she continued.

“The bread you gave me was also delicious. Thank you!”

At those words, Asher scratched the back of his head shyly.

“It’s not bread, it’s scones but… I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

April, who was watching the scene happily, suddenly turned her head to the woman who was suddenly speaking to her.

“Well…”

“Yes?”

“I’m sorry. I was a little rude to you this morning.”

‘…It was not a little, she was very rude.’

Even though she wanted to say that, April swallowed those words from her heart and smiled.

“No, it’s okay.”

“It’s a little strange to say this, but I’ve brought some bread in return to show my gratitude. If you ever need bread in the future, come to me anytime.

“I see. Ah!”

All of a sudden, April had thought of a good idea before beckoning the woman and the child.

“Since you’ve come this way, take a drink back with you.”

“We didn’t bring any money.”

“Think of it as compensation for giving us bread.”

Seeing her smile and insistence, the woman went to the seat by the window as she sat with an awkward look on her face. At the same time, Asher led the little girl and sat across from her.

“Sister! Please give her hot chocolate!”

“Okay, I see.”

Just like yesterday, April took chocolate and mixed it with milk. After that, she began to contemplate the drink for the woman.

‘She might not like espresso or americano because it’s unfamiliar, right?’

Although there was coffee here, unlike black tea that everyone drinks, the perception that coffee was a noble drink was still strong. Consequently, the woman would never have drunk espresso before. So, while April loves espresso and americano, unfortunately, neither drink was good for new coffee drinkers. It was because they would rather avoid it, given its unique sourness and bitterness.

In that case, it would be better if she made a vanilla latte with sweet vanilla syrup.

‘Come to think of it, they might not drink coffee with sugar here yet… Whatever, as long as it tastes good.’

As she thought so, April immediately ground the coffee beans and put them into an espresso machine.

‘I’m glad this place has an espresso machine.’

Although the Empire accepted it rather late, coffee was widespread throughout the world. Thanks to the development of magic and alchemy, the tools needed for coffee had already developed to a high level. Nonetheless, compared to Korea, the coffee menu was still limited. There were basic menus here, such as americano and cafe latte, which mix espresso with water and milk.

However, there was no menu with milk foam or cream, like cappuccino or viennese coffee. Perhaps, it was because the steam mechanism was not yet developed. On top of that, there was also a strong perception that sweet cream was a dessert, so it seemed that it was not served with coffee.

‘It’s a shame since there are so many with milk froth and cream. Oh, if only there were a milk frother…’

Then, she could have made a vanilla latte macchiato with fine milk froth.

‘After I make a lot of money and go to the capital, I’ll have to ask the alchemists and wizards.’

That way, she would be able to introduce a menu that was not yet available here.

With that determination, April added the syrup made with plenty of vanilla beans to the warmed milk and stirred it. When the espresso, which was extracted under high pressure, was carefully poured onto the milk in the glass, the vanilla latte with a brown gradation on the top and white on the bottom was completed.

‘Perfect.’

Humming to herself, April carefully took the tray out. She then placed the vanilla latte in front of the woman and hot chocolate in front of the little girl. Meanwhile, Asher, who had already drunk hot chocolate, was given warm milk. The child pouted his lips as if he was disappointed though he did not complain about the hot chocolate.

The woman took a sip of vanilla latte and exclaimed.

“This is amazing. Is this coffee?”

“Yes, it’s called vanilla latte. Because it’s coffee mixed with milk and vanilla syrup, it wouldn’t be overbearing to drink even for first-time drinkers.”

This time, the girl sipped hot chocolate.

“Mom, this is delicious too!”

As expected, hot chocolate had the magical charm to capture the hearts of all children.

As the woman took another sip of the vanilla latte, she raised her eyebrows slightly since she was unfamiliar with the smell of coffee, but soon smiled softly.

“It’s delicious. It’s the first time I’ve tried it, but I like it because it’s sweet.”

“That’s a relief.”

Resting her chin on her hand, April smiled along with her.
