Roasting?

As Asher tilted his head, repeating the unfamiliar word back like a question, April reworded her words to make it easier for the child to understand.

Im going to fry coffee beans.

Ive seen fried beans before!

Yes. Its the same thing.

April took the child, who was interested, before heading towards the kitchen together.

Theres a roasting machine here too, but

She didnt buy a roasting machine. Not only was it expensive, but the machine was too big so it wasnt suitable for a small cafe like Aprils.

Still, just because theres no machine doesnt mean that roasting is impossible.

Like Asher mentioned, Its the same because roasting was no different from frying regular beans. As roasting the coffee beans was normally done in a pan, that was already sufficient.

Its not as uniform as with a roasting machine, but its all right.

Rather, because it wasnt roasted evenly, coffee with various flavors could be born so it was also a kind of blending.

Asher. Its hot, so sit over there.

She then pointed to a chair placed some distance away from the fire.

Asher, sitting in the chair, moved his legs back and forth while sticking his head out and gazing at the frying pan.

Taking the green beans, April placed them in a pan before lighting the fire. As she stirred the beans with a wooden spatula and roasted them, the green beans gradually began to turn brown. And soon, there was a crackling sound from the beans.

Its important from this point on

From the start of the sound, the beans were roasted rapidly. The lighter the beans were roasted, the more sour they taste, and the darker the beans are roasted, the more bitter they taste.

Naturally, the more you fry, the darker the color.

I personally like sour tastes, but many people have strong likes and dislikes for the sourness.

In addition, looking at what people were eating earlier, they seemed to like medium-roasted beans with a moderate mix of sour and bitter flavors.

As she thought so, April put a lot of effort into it.

When one or two beans were dark enough, she swiftly put the roasted beans through a sieve before transferring it to another plate and shaking it through the sieve. It was a process of removing the peeled-off skin while roasting the hot beans at the same time as cooling them.

Its all done?

Yes. Do you want to see it?

The child jumped out of his chair at the question. Asher, who had come closer while bouncing his plump feet, pursed his lips and blew the wind toward the coffee beans.

It was at that moment when April was watching the figure happily

Is there anyone inside?

A polite voice was heard that could not be compared to what shed been hearing recently. While the villagers were kind, the way they spoke was different.

It must be

He seems like an aristocrat.

April hurriedly took off her hood and apron and went outside.

There, a few men, as intimidating as their voices, entered the cafe and glanced around. She instinctively blocked Ashers way and peered at the tallest man.

Even though he was wearing a plain shirt and pants, the material of the clothes was not ordinary. He looked like an aristocrat who had put on a disguise to sneak out on a picnic. Besides, the man had silver hair and purple eyes. His sharp eyes had an unusual energy flowing just by looking at them.

Its better not to get involved with someone like that.

She also noted that the man had the same silver hair as Asher.

Maybe, this guy

Asher, go to your room.

April hurriedly pushed Asher on the back, but before the child could enter his room, the man spoke again.

It would be better not to let the child in.

A languid, yet sharp, heavy bass sound stuck in her ears.

Seeing the long sword hanging from his waist, April gulped down her saliva. Although the man wasnt threatening, she didnt know how he would change the moment Asher would leave.

After blocking Ashers path a little more thoroughly, she asked.

Whats going on?

In response to her question, a silver-haired man stepped forward and asked back.

Are you the guardian of this child?

At that, April was at a loss for words to stop him. It was because, strictly speaking, she wasnt Ashers guardian.

Let alone a guardian, Im the person with whom he has virtually no relationship.

Still, she had been seeing the child for over a week now. Not only that, but it was the natural duty of adults to protect children from suspicious people.

Holding her head stiffly, she insisted.

Im his temporary guardian.

A temporary guardian?

The mans expression darkened though he soon calmed down and approached April.

From a distance, she felt that the man was tall, but not very tall. However, the man she saw up close was different. While his muscles werent huge, his shoulders were broad and his whole body was toned with fine muscle.

He was a man who reminded her of a nimble jaguar.
