‘The Truth’

The mint smell that surrounded him had disappeared and his cheeks were flushed, his eyelashes twitched with the shyness of a young virgin.

Outside, the wind was blowing, and Ye Qiao stood across the tree in the heavy shade, wondering if he had seen what they had just done.

In a childish tone, Wen Zhi hid the joy of being infatuated with his partner: “Why didn’t you tell me in advance that you were going to kiss me, I wasn’t prepared?”

These few words carry deep meaning, a lingering sweetness, and a hint of coquetry.

Si Mingchen’s voice lowers as he responds, “You didn’t tell me in advance when you kissed me either.”

Wen Zhi couldn’t help but glance at Si Mingchen’s lips. They were pale and thin, typical of someone who is emotionally reserved.

“You still remember what happened that day.”

Wen Zhi began to rummage through the snack cabinet in the car, unpacking a bag of small biscuits: “Is it far where we’re going?”

Si Mingchen: “Not far.”

Wen Zhi: “Are there many people?”

Si Mingchen: “Not many. It’s a private party.”

Wen Zhi, feeling a bit smug after being kissed by Si Ming, started to act a bit conceited. “You hardly talk. It’s always me who initiates the conversation. You should talk to me more as well.”

Si Mingchen pondered slightly, “You look good today.”

Wen Zhi grinned, “But Xiao Ming said I looked like a little stray dog, and my taste isn’t as good as before.”

Si Mingchen gave Wen Zhi a look, “Indeed.”

Wen Zhi narrowed his eyes angrily, like a small puffer fish that was about to explode: “Then take me to the mall, everyone must be dressed nicely for the private party, so I don’t have to embarrass you.”

Si Mingchen’s voice was tinted with a smile, “No need.”

“You look the best.”

Wen Zhi’s raised hackles instantly settle down, and a faint blush appears on his face.

Si Mingchen is quite good at speaking sweet words.

The car enters a quiet estate, and a servant bows politely at the entrance. “Mr. Si, please come in.”

Wen Zhi looked at the exquisite greenery of the estate and asked softly, “Who is this friend of yours?”

Si Mingchen: “Sang Yu.”

Wen Zhi followed, “Sang Yu? What is his relationship with Sang Qi?”

Si Mingchen’s attention was obviously not at the same place as Wen Zhi, and asked him in a low voice, “Why don’t you call him Brother Sang Qi anymore?”

Wen Zhi honestly admits, “You don’t like him.”

Si Mingchen’s expression softens, “Sang Yu is the chairman of Ming Sang Group.”

Wen Zhi summarizes, “In simple terms, does that mean he’s the head of the entire Sang family?”

Si Mingchen: “Yes.”

From the parking lot of Sang’s house to the grand hall, Si Mingchen took off his coat and draped it over Wen Zhi’s shoulders, naturally holding his hand.

Wen Zhi looked down at his own clothes and realized they looked a bit childish. He decided that he would learn some dressing tips from Ming Yantang in the future.

The weather outside was cold, and Si Mingchen was not wearing thick clothing. Wen Zhi tried to tuck Si Mingchen’s hand into his own little belly, but Si Mingchen stopped him.

“What’s wrong?” Si Mingchen was puzzled.

Wen Zhi looked at him, “Your hands are cold, I’ll warm it up for you.”

Si Mingchen flicked him on the head: “Stop fooling around and cover your clothes up.”

Wen Zhi made an “oh” sound, admitting his failure in pampering his husband.

As they stepped into the magnificent grand hall, Chen Yu and their friends were already sitting on the sofa, leisurely waiting.

Seeing Wen Zhi by Si Mingchen’s side, wearing Si Mingchen’s coat, Chen Yu and the others smirked, “Mingchen and Xiao Zhi are here.”

Wen Zhi said politely, “Hello, everyone.”

Sang Yu sat in the centre, wearing a string of black Buddhist beads on his wrist, “Mingchen, I rarely see you take Wen Zhi on hang out.”

Si Mingchen gestured for Wen Zhi to sit down and took the warm towel handed to him by a maid to wipe his hands, “Well, he’s not busy today.”

Chen Yu smiled knowingly. Previously, Wen Zhi was not busy and didn’t go out with Si Mingchen. Wen Zhi didn’t like these kinds of occasions at all, and Si Mingchen couldn’t force him.

Wen Zhi continued, “It’s okay. We can meet up more often in the future.”

Si Mingchen chuckled and pointed to the adjacent room. “Sang Yu has raised several alpacas. Would you like to go and see them?”

Alpacas were Wen Zhi’s favorite animals since he was a child, but Wen Qishan disliked alpacas because they tended to spit, so he never allowed Wen Zhi to have one.

Wen Zhi nodded and looked at Sang Yu, seemingly waiting for the owner’s permission.

Sang Yu said, “Uncle Li, accompany Wen Zhi to play.”

After Wen Zhi left, everyone on the sofa turned their gaze towards Si Mingchen.

Chen Yu was the first to speak teasingly, “Mingchen, you won’t give up until you hit a wall, huh?”

Sheng Qi slowly peeled off his orange: “It’s not like it’s your first day to know what he’s like.”

Si Mingchen ignored them and looked at Sang Yu: “I want you to help me with something.”

Sang Yu: “Go ahead tell me.”

Si Mingchen said, “I want you to investigate Sang Qi’s recent activities, especially his relationship with Wen Qishan.”

Sang Qi was considered part of the Sang family based on blood relations, although he wasn’t close to Sang Yu. However, investigating through Sang Yu might yield more effective information than directly sending someone to investigate, as Sang Yu was more familiar with the situation.

Sang Yu: “Okay.”

Chen Yu became interested and asked, “How did Sang Qi end up getting close to your father-in-law?”

Si Mingchen replied calmly, “I’m not entirely sure, but what I can confirm is that he has a very close relationship with Wen Qishan. They even conspired to sow discord between me and Wen Zhi.”

Sheng Qi joked, “What’s going on? Is your father-in-law trying to matchmake Wen Zhi with his ex-boyfriend?”

Si Mingchen remained silent, his gaze filled with contemplation.

Sang Yu said, “I’ll send someone to investigate right away, don’t worry.”

Si Mingchen nodded and then slowly said, “While you’re at it, find out all the information about his time in college. If you can also obtain any information about his relationship with Wen Zhi during their dating period, I want that too.”

Chen Yu became anxious, “What are you planning? Are you torturing yourself?”

Sang Yu signaled Chen Yu not to worry and said, “Mingchen, do you think that something is not quite right?”

Si Mingchen couldn’t explain why he wanted to investigate Sang Qi and Wen Zhi’s past relationship, but ever since Sang Qi started sowing discord, he had a faint feeling that something was amiss.

“Let’s take a look first.” He said.

Chen Yu provided a clue but was worried that it would hurt Si Mingchen’s feelings, “I have another friend who is quite familiar with Sang Qi. He said that Wen Zhi and Sang Qi got together after Wen Zhi got accepted to Qing University. In Wen Zhi’s junior year, Sang Qi proposed to him. If you investigate, these two time points might provide some clarity.”

Si Mingchen replied, “Got it.”

With that settled, Si Mingchen looked towards the nearby room and said, “I’ll accompany Wen Zhi to see the alpacas.”

Sang Yu said, “Go ahead.”

After Si Mingchen left, Chen Yu remarked, “Wen Zhi’s brain is messed up. I don’t know when he’ll get better.”

Sheng Qi shrugged and peeled an orange. “Memory loss is difficult to treat and recover. But who knows, maybe one day he’ll hit his head again and suddenly regain his memory.”

Listening to Wen Zhi’s childish conversations with the alpaca, Si Mingchen felt as if he was back in high school dating the teenage Wen Zhi.

“Are you ready? We’re going to have dinner.”

When Wen Zhi turned around, he saw Si Mingchen and invited him enthusiastically, “Do you want to try to feed him?”

Si Mingchen took the carrot from Wen Zhi’s hand and offered it to the alpaca’s mouth, “If you like it, should we consider getting one for our home?”

Wen Zhi was surprised. “Can we have one at home too? They have a strong smell, and they tend to spit. I’m worried that you won’t be able to stand it because of your cleanliness habits.”

Si Mingchen: “Yes, we can keep it.”

Wen Zhi squinted his eyes and the more he looked at his husband, the more pleasing he found him. Taking the opportunity, he cheekily touched Si Mingchen’s waist with his hand and said, “Then let’s go choose one another day.”

Si Mingchen nodded and asked, “Should we bring back the dog we gave to Ming Yantang? If he agrees, that is.”

Wen Zhi pondered for a moment. “Let me ask. I’m worried that Xiao Ming has a close relationship with the dog. But maybe we can bring it back occasionally for a couple of days.”
