Chapter 22: Burning Like Fire

Kazuma’s blood was boiling. He even felt that his arm would burn in the next moment and he could then use Flame Fist on the yakuza men in front of him.

It was a pity that he did not live in a fantasy world, so it was unrealistic to release energy waves or flames with one’s bare hands.

Although Kazuma’s blood was boiling, his mind was clear.

He knew that he had to reduce the number of enemies quickly.

Although he might not be able to instantly defeat the two men who had street brawl levels higher than his Shinto Style ranking, there should be no problem with the remaining three judging from the numbers alone.

The key was that he had to have a weapon in his hand, but the nearest bamboo sword was on the rack beside one of the walls.

Kazuma splashed his opponents with hot tea because he’d wanted to buy some time for himself to run to the side of the dojo to get a bamboo sword.

“Brother!” Chiyoko shouted.

Kazuma could hear the sound of the bamboo sword tearing through the air. It seemed like Chiyoko had used a lot of strength to throw it.

Kazuma caught the sword firmly without even look in that direction. Given the speed of the bamboo sword, if he had used his vision to confirm its position before catching it, he would probably have missed it.

After getting the bamboo sword, Kazuma immediately swung it like a stick and hit the yakuza underling who was still screaming from being splashed with hot tea.

Many martial arts schools that focused on actual combat had moves that used unsheathed swords like they’re sticks. Of course, the Shinto Style was one of them.

The man was knocked to the ground. It seemed that he would not be able to stand up for at least a minute or two.

Kazuma immediately changed his target, but the opponents had already begun their counterattack.

The bald man with Street Brawl 8 shouted, “Damn you!”

Of course, there was also the iconic yakuza tongue rolling.

In Kazuma’s vision, the roar had added a new note, “Brave Roar,” above everyone’s head, except for Nishikiyama Heita’s.

As soon as the new buff had been added, the bald man picked up the teacup in front of him and threw it at Kazuma.

Kazuma gently dodged it and pulled away from him. At the same time, he adjusted the sword—holding the sword correctly was a basic step in kendo.

Kazuma stepped backward, getting his feet into the position for Tsuki. Then, Kazuma raised his arms to prepare for Tsuki.

In a split second, he rushed toward the target. His opponent, who had just received the courage buff, was planning to follow the bald man to throw the tea set at Kazuma.

The leather cap of Kazuma’s sword accurately hit the man’s mouth, instantly shattering his upper front tooth. As the man fell backward, his front teeth flew out of his mouth along with blood.

Immediately after, an unbelievable scene took place. The person who was hit by Kazuma’s attack flew backward!

After Kazuma’s bamboo sword broke through his front teeth, it pushed into his mouth and onto his upper jaw. Using this as a force point, Kazuma sent the person flying backward.

Kazuma believed that the hit had probably resulted in a concussion. He might even become a vegetable.

‘Since when was Tsuki so powerful?’

‘Is it because my blood is boiling and my fists are burning like fire, calling to me to win?’

In fact, he really wanted to take a look at his current skills and note. His clear mind and boiling blood had probably given him a buff too.

However, he had to meditate in order to see his own state, which was super inconvenient.

There was no chance for him to meditate now.

Even if he had the chance to meditate, his anger would have been gone by then.

Kazuma decided to just let it be. The priority was to defeat all the people in front of him.

He let out a roar—since that bald man’s roar could add buffs to his own people, maybe Kazuma’s roar would result in some DEBUFFs.

After the roar, Kazuma took a look. The last small fry that was still standing had indeed been affected by the DEBUFF, “Deterred.”

‘Then get down!’

The man fell to the ground with a thud.

However, before Kazuma could retract his attack, the bald man had leaped toward Kazuma.

Kazuma nimbly took a step back while waving his bamboo sword in front of him to take advantage of the situation—he was actually trying to force the opponent back.

The bald man did not follow him. Instead, he kicked the tea bowl on the ground toward Kazuma.

Kazuma wanted to knock down the flying bowl, but he suddenly saw the bald man pull out a knife hidden in his suit.

This was not the kind of butterfly knife that a delinquent would play with. Instead, it was a dagger with a length close to the wakizashi1. It was much more threatening than a butterfly knife.

The handle of the knife had been removed, which made it easier to carry.

The bright blade reflected the light of the setting sun, blinding Kazuma’s vision for a second.

Having drawn his weapon at this instant, it was obvious that he wanted to launch a sneak attack while Kazuma was busy defending against the tea bowl.

The bald man swung the knife into a cross-shape in front of him and rushed forward while screaming.

Kazuma ignored the tea bowl and forced him back with Kasaya Slash. The hot tea in the tea bowl spilled on Kazuma’s body. Kazuma clenched his teeth in pain, but he still managed to hold his posture.

Kazuma knew that his Kasaya Slash was much faster than usual. Apparently, he had also benefited from the enhancement of his mental state, namely his own buff.

However, the fact that the bald man was able to dodge it showed that a fighter of Street Brawl 8 was still quite formidable.

However, according to the tips given by his cheat, street fighters preferred complex environments where they could make use of different tools. Hence, Kazuma should have an upper hand here at the dojo.

The bald man was obviously aware of this as well. His wakizashi was shorter than Kazuma’s bamboo sword, but he didn’t back down.

At the same time, Kazuma was also keeping watch on Nishikiyama.

That fellow had Street Brawl 11 and Kendo Muryu Style 5, together with a Demon Face effect that looked like a buff. Kazuma was not sure if he could defeat Nishikiyama if he were to fight with him one on one.

Besides, it was now two against one.

Nishikiyama was still sitting calmly in his original seat, holding a teacup in his hand.

That was probably the only teacup that had not been knocked over.

Nishikiyama looked at Kazuma as if he was waiting for a winner to emerge between Kazuma and the bald man.

While guarding against Nishikiyama, Kazuma began to move his feet, looking for a position where he would not have to worry about being ambushed by him while he launched an attack.

The bald man followed Kazuma’s footsteps. While he made sure that he was constantly facing Kazuma, he kept using forward-step feints to interfere with Kazuma’s judgment.

The short distance between them could be closed in the blink of an eye with an adult’s footwork.

However, Kazuma was completely unmoved, as if he was ignoring the bald man’s repeated attempts to advance.

Finally, the bald man charged forward and launched a sudden attack!

The wakizashi and the bamboo sword collided. The sharp blade of the wakizashi sank almost a centimeter into the bamboo sword!

Kazuma turned his wrist, forcing the bamboo sword to turn together with the wakizashi. That almost pulled the wakizashi out of the man’s hand!

In the next moment, the bamboo sword hit the bald man’s head with a loud bang.

The structural integrity of the bamboo sword had already been damaged by the wakizashi blade. Upon impact, the sword had cracked open from the middle section, sending bamboo fragments flying into the air.

The corner of Kazuma’s left eye was hit by the flying bamboo pieces, and blood flowed down the side of his face.

It looked like he was crying tears of blood.

Kazuma thought that he could knock his opponent unconscious with this strike. Unexpectedly, however, the explosion of the bamboo sword had buffered the impact of the slash. The bald man did not fall!

He screamed and rushed forward, his bald reflective head directly pushing against Kazuma’s chest.

Kazuma dodged to the side, so the bald man rushed over again. But he lost his balance and fell onto the wooden floor of the dojo. The floor was smooth as a mirror, thanks to Chiyoko’s meticulous cleaning. The man slid for a long distance before finally stopping before Chiyoko.

Chiyoko waved her bamboo sword and hit the back of the bald man’s head.

“Face!” She even shouted according to the rules of kendo competitions.

Kazuma did not pay any further attention to the bald man. He believed that his sister’s attack had been heavy enough. He rushed toward the lackey who was the first one to fall. This fellow was about to get up, but Kazuma put him down again.

Then, Kazuma turned to Nishikiyama Heita, who was still drinking tea.

“Your subordinates have all fallen.” Although he wanted to speak in a calm voice, his emotions were so intense that his voice was trembling.

Nishikiyama put down his teacup and looked at Kazuma. “I heard that you couldn’t get a license to teach kendo.”

“Is that important?” Kazuma asked.

“No. Give me a bamboo sword,” Nishikiyama said as he stood up. He kicked away the tea set that he had just put down. Then, Nishikiyama pulled the front of his shirt and immediately tore it into halves.

Kazuma was shocked. He did not know whether he should mock Nishikiyama for wearing a poor-quality shirt or admire his impressive strength.

Nishikiyama threw the torn suit shirt aside and flexed his muscles.

At this moment, Kazuma suddenly saw a beam of red light radiating from Nishikiyama’s body. There was also a new flame effect to the “Demon Face” note in the status column above his head.

Nishikiyama repeated his words, “Give me a bamboo sword, or do you want to fight me bare-handed?”

It was only then that Kazuma realized that the bamboo sword in his hand was already done for. It was no different from bare hands.

“Chiyoko!” he shouted.

Chiyoko tossed Kazuma a bamboo sword.

Kazuma said, “Give him one too.”

Chiyoko was shocked. “What? Brother, you…”

“Give it to him!” Kazuma interrupted Chiyoko and stared straight at Nishikiyama.

Nishikiyama laughed out loud. “I really didn’t expect to meet someone so down-to-earth at this declining dojo!”

He caught the bamboo sword that Chiyoko threw at him and held it near his waist. Then, he announced in a loud voice:

“Chief of the Kanto Alliance Third-Tier Subsidiary Nishikiyama Family,

“Nishikiyama Heita,

“Here I come!”
