I Can’t Become Cinderella 1

“Catherine-san, this is Commander Dirk Blythe of our Royal Order of Knights.”

Of course, I knew him well. Dirk was my educator at the time and the one I spent the most time with.

With apple-red hair and gentle honey-colored eyes, he was six years older than me, so he must be 25 years old now.

He was still tall enough that I had to look up to see him, and he looked much more mature than when I last saw him. No wonder Erica-san said he was so popular.

Still, I was surprised to see him again by chance in a place like this. I bowed my head, trying not to call out his name.

“I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for sending me here. I will leave you here.”

“…. Are you going to go down the mountain alone now?”

“It’s a straight road ahead, and I can more or less use magic.”

The knights who brought me here didn’t budge, saying that I should stay at the campsite tonight and that he would send me in the morning.

But I had a big problem, my transformation magic would be broken if I was asleep.

There seemed to be many knights here who knew Nina, not just Dirk, so I must absolutely leave here.

“No. I can’t let anything happen to you.”

“But I really need to go home today…! My house is just down the mountain.”

When I looked at Dirk, he nodded and said, “I understand.” Apparently, he was still vulnerable to pressure, and his gentle nature hadn’t changed.

I was relieved for a short while, however, Dirk continued his words.

“I’ll take you home.”

“What? No, you don’t have to do that.”

“If you take the silver wolf, it’s only a short ride to the foot of the mountain. I’ll see you in 30 minutes.”

“T-Thank you.”

“Yes.”

He was still the same worrywart. Then, I had to try not to make things difficult and asked him to send me home maturely.

Dirk gave me a small smile and left. I felt sorry to have taken so much time of his time, but he seemed all right, and most of all, I was happy to see his face.

After that, I had a hot drink and was waiting leisurely, when suddenly the area became noisy.

When I asked someone nearby if something had happened, he said that another group had returned from subjugating demons.

“….”

I took a peek at the scene and saw several knights there who were seriously injured. The devastation left me speechless. It seemed that after the subjugation, they had encountered a horde of demons.

Everyone was running around in a hurry, and when I approached them wanting to do something, they said they needed my help for the treatment.

The healing wizard who was accompanying them had already run out of mana, and the only thing left was a bunch of beginners’ level potions, so the situation was deadlocked. In this world, there were no MP potions that could restore magic power[1].

(T/N: MP means Mana Potion.)

“I hope they manage to hold out tonight….”

There were no more healing wizards in the countryside, nor were there any advanced potions available.

Of course, there was no way I could overlook them, and I was wondering if there was a way to successfully treat them all when I eventually approached a healing wizard who was nearby.

“Excuse me, where are the potions?”

“In the box over there, but it’s all filled with beginner potions.”

“I understand. But I’m sure they must be better than not drinking any potion at all.”

“…. Yes, that’s probably true.”

She was right, though. Beginners’ level potions won’t heal deep wounds, and they would only make the pain diminished slightly.
