The Heroine and I 1

Despite everything that happened last night, the next morning when I met Alvin-sama in the dining room, he was the same as usual.

In fact, I even felt that his smile was more dazzling than usual.

“Good morning, Nina. Did you sleep well last night?”

“Good morning. I slept well thanks to being able to sleep in my own bed. Thank you very much.”

“I’m glad to hear that. You can always count on me.”

In addition to Alvin-sama, there was also Erica, who was scheduled for a magic class in the morning.

Since last week, we had promised to have breakfast together.

After that, the three of us had a nice meal together while chatting nonchalantly.

“Nina, open your mouth?”

“….. Um.”

Alvin-sama, seemingly unconcerned with Erica’s presence, brought the spoon with dessert on it to my mouth.

I was extremely embarrassed, but it was hard to say no when I thought about the fact that he went out of his way to pick me up yesterday. So, I opened my mouth and eat the strawberry jelly.

Erica covered her face with both hands while squealing, looking at us through the space between her fingers. Please stop it.

“Ah, that’s right. After you’ve finished class with Erica, if you’ve decided how you want to spend your time, please let the maid know.”

“I understand.”

“I’ll spend the morning finishing up the paperwork, and in the afternoon─”

Until yesterday, I had never been informed of Alvin-sama’s schedule. Knowing each other’s schedules was somewhat like being lovers.

Erica, who had apparently heard our conversation, opened her mouth gingerly, her cheeks flushed red.

“Are you two dating, by any chance?”

“Cough, keugh…”

Erica seemed to be thinking the same thing as me, and I ended up coughing at the straightforward question. Alvin-sama said, “Are you all right?” and rubbed my back.

“But I’m glad we look like that.”

Alvin-sama hugged my shoulder with a smile on his face, and the smell of his fragrance wafted into my nose.

“I’d rather be Nina’s husband than her lover, though.”

“…..”

My face heated up at such proposal-like words. Erica’s inaudible scream echoed through the dining room.

Even after that, I couldn’t calm down because of Alvin-sama, and the freshly baked bread that was supposed to be delicious was tasteless in my mouth.

Later, after teaching Erica magic in the forest behind the royal castle, I returned to my room and read a book I had borrowed from the library.

In the past, I had always learned by doing rather than by learning, so I didn’t have much knowledge about magic. Now that I had more time, I was thinking of learning from the basics again.

As I was absorbed in my reading, a cheerful knock sounded, and when I answered to come in, Theo entered as expected.

Theo sat down right next to me on the sofa and looked as crestfallen as a scolded puppy.

“Nina, I’m sorry about yesterday. I know Alvin got mad at you because of my drunken self.”

“I was scolded, but… Anyway, there’s nothing for Theo to apologize about. Are you okay now?”

“Yeah, I just woke up in my room and freaked out.”

I felt relieved that Theo was able to get a good night’s rest. I was worried about him sleeping too deeply as he had been drinking.

Eventually, Theo took out a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket. When he took the paper and opened it, I found the names of several men and their special skills written on it.

“What is this?”

“This is a list of guys you like. Sorry I’m late.”

“Ah…..!”

Once again, I completely forgot that list existed.

It wasn’t a list of men I like; it was more like a list of men I could employ in the future.

Although there wasn’t much use for this list now that I no longer needed to work, I was sure that Theo had done his best to research it in his own way.

I thanked him again, folded up the paper, and put it in the corner of the table. I had to put it away properly later so that Alvin-sama and the others wouldn’t find it by mistake.

“I wonder how Dirk is doing.”

“He said he had to work as an escort guard this afternoon.”

“I see.”

I had wanted to have a little chat with Dirk after the way we parted yesterday, but it seemed that it won’t be possible today.

“I think Theo should apologize to Dirk more than to me.”

“Why?”

“Just because.”

From what I saw yesterday, it seemed that Dirk wasn’t planning on confessing his feelings to me. Theo must have thrown a wrench in his plans.

As such, he would surely want our relationship to remain the same as before. I decided to treat him as I normally would so as not to make him feel awkward the next time we met.

“I’ve got work today, too. I’ll be away from the castle for a couple of days, so don’t miss me too much.”

“I’ll still miss you, but have a safe trip.”

Speaking of which, I heard that Owen was also going away this afternoon. Everyone was working hard despite their busy schedules, and I was also determined to do my best, so after seeing Theo off, I went back to studying.

That night, after having dinner with Alvin-sama, I was playing with Cheryl as we prepared to go to sleep.

“Cheryl is smart. She’s very, very clever.”

The time passed quickly before I realized it, and feeling sleepy, I stretched my arms out tightly in an attempt to get ready to sleep.

“Hwuamh….”

Absentmindedly, I headed off to bed, thinking about whether I should clean up the river in the forest again tomorrow.

It was when I said “good night” to Cheryl, who was headed to her own bed, and turned off the light.

“W-What….!?”

Suddenly, something like a magic circle appeared at my feet and began to glow bright red. As if falling into a bottomless swamp, my body was swallowed into the magic circle.

Cheryl, who immediately sensed something was wrong, barked and came toward me, but she didn’t seem to be able to approach the magic circle.

“Cheryl, stay away from me, it’s dangerous!”

I tried to resist using magic, but more than half of my body had already been swallowed. I didn’t want to put up too much of a fight, afraid that something might happen to my body.

I could feel the cool air in the lower half of my body where I was swallowed. Perhaps it was connected to some other space.

I took a deep breath to calm down, looked at the magic circle again, and gasped.

“─No way…”

And then I realized. This might be the heroine kidnapping event of “Adolescence of Swords and Magic 2.”
