Unease and Truth 4

“Alvin-sama, are you all right?”

“…. Yes. I’m sorry.”

Soon after that, I went to see Alvin-sama. Everyone was very considerate, and now we were alone in the room.

As he lay on the bed, his complexion was terribly pale, probably because he had lost more blood than Owen.

But I was relieved to see that he wasn’t in a life-threatening condition.

“Even though I said I’m going to be fine, I ended up showing my uncool side.”

“There is no such thing! I’m really glad that you came back safely….”

I gently held Alvin-sama’s cold hand, which was casually placed on the bed.

──I was really scared when Alvin-sama left, when he came back covered in blood, and when I realized that my healing magic didn’t work.

I was more afraid of losing Alvin-sama than anything else.

“Actually, I’ve been feeling a little under the weather lately. I’m sure it will settle down soon, and I’ll make sure that things like this don’t happen again. So don’t make that kind of face.”

I wasn’t even aware that Alvin-sama wasn’t feeling well.

As I was feeling frustrated, Alvin-sama slowly lifted the hand I was holding and touched my cheek.

“I’m really okay.”

“…. Yes.”

I nodded a little and Alvin-sama smiled as if he was relieved.

After that, we talked about that man. Alvin-sama seemed to agree with Erica and muttered that he would surely kill him again with a cold look in his eyes.

“But do you know the cause of your poor health?”

“Yes. It’s not a big deal, so don’t worry about it.”

“….”

Although Alvin-sama said so, I still had a deep sense of uneasiness. I was absolutely certain that he was hiding something from me.

“Nina healed this injury too, right? If combined with healing Owen, you have considerable magical power…”

“Alvin-sama.”

When I quietly called his name, and Alvin-sama kept his mouth shut, perhaps noticing that I was acting differently than usual.

“Is there any connection between your poor condition and the fact that my healing magic wasn’t working effectively?”

“….”

The moment I asked that, his violet eyes quivered. Even if it was only for a moment, it wasn’t often that Alvin-sama lost his composure. My prediction turned into certainty.

Alvin-sama immediately drew a smile on his face.

“Of course it’s nothing to do with that. I just didn’t think it was necessary to tell Nina because it’s not a big deal. I didn’t want to cause you unnecessary worry.”

“Then why is my healing magic not working?”

“I don’t know either. I’ll look into it later.”

I was irritated by Alvin-sama, who was deceiving me and smiling as usual.

Why wouldn’t he tell me the truth?

If he was simply not feeling well and was suffering from some illness, I should be able to help him. And if it was really nothing serious, there was no need to hide it so much.

Then, I suddenly remembered what my friends had said to me recently.

“Hey, Nina, keep a close eye on Alvin, would you? Just, watch over him carefully. Please.”

“Nina, please take care of Alvin.”

I was sure that both Owen and Dirk knew what was happening to Alvin-sama.

The reason why he could tell them but not me. It was definitely not just because he didn’t want me to worry.

Because it was Alvin-sama, I could imagine why he would do that to some extent. Because I would be sad, because I would feel guilty, because I would be hurt, that’s what it was all about.

“…. Yes. Sure enough, it was a success.”

“I’m no longer the person Nina knew.”

“Me? I had one.”

“I’ve already achieved it.”

“Hey, Nina, are you glad you came back to this world again?”

“Because I’m responsible for you.”

“There are no miracles in this world.”

“I need Nina in my world.”

Every time I recalled Alvin-sama’s previous words, it led me to one answer.

Even though people around me usually said that I was quite naive, I hated the fact that I was strangely clear-headed only at times like this.

Eventually, I wrapped my hands around Alvin-sama’s and squeezed them.

“──Alvin-sama used forbidden magic, didn’t you?”
