Chapter 20 – The uncouth daughter’s aerial travel

Traveling by wyvern is so much faster than the coachman's journey it seems almost unreal.

Why didn't we just ride this from the beginning? I thought about that, but I heard that the use of magical beasts is prohibited except in this vicinity.

"Hyah! That's fast. That's amazing!"

I've been huffing and puffing all the way.

"Wyverns are tricky to ride, but they're much faster than a horse. They are trained to use magic to create barriers, so they can travel at high speeds with no air resistance."

"I guess magical beasts aren't all that bad. They sometimes appeared in the Marquisate of Evantail, but my father got angry with them because they would destroy the vegetable fields of the commoners."

"Agnes, aren't you afraid of flying in the sky at such high speed?"

"Yes, it seems to be fine."

"Amazing. Unless you're a person who's used to riding, it's hard to travel in a wyvern."

For that matter, Lord Nazel also has a relaxed expression on his face.

He said he had trained to ride a cavalry beast, but he must have been very busy with the royal education. I don't think he has been able to ride the beast that many times.

But he was very confident, as expected of Lord Nazel.

Tony, riding in the front, kept looking back at us.

Don't worry, Lord Nazel would never get lost.

After flying for several hours without a break, we saw what looked like a town below us.

"Is this the center of Sutrena territory?"

The center of Sutrena was a desolate town that could hardly be compared to the royal capital.

On the unpaved ground, buildings made of wood were scattered around, and an old stone fortress was located at the end of the square where people gathered.

In addition, a building that looked like a nobleman's mansion could be seen a short distance away.

The population was small and there were few stores. Roca, which had seemed like a countryside town, was still more prosperous.

To the south of the city was grassland with a huge river flowing across it.

Across the river, we were told, would be the land of neighboring Polpistan.

As we gazed at the scenery, Tony's wyvern began to descend toward the fort.

"Agnes, hold on tight as we descend."

"Yes, Lord Nazel!"

I clung to the Wyvern's body. Lord Nazel held my body tightly. Come to think of it, he also held me tightly when we first took off too.

Lord Nazel ...... is so strong. Smells good ...... and nice ......!

While I was swooning, the wyvern landed on the roof of a building. The descent wasn't too scary.

Tony and Kelly are also on the ground ahead of us. Kelly seems to be safe.

Lord Nazel, who landed on the ground quickly, opened his arms toward me.

"Come on, Agnes."

"Um, ......, Lord Nazel? What do you mean ......?"

"It's okay, just jump into my chest."

"......?"

Diving into Lord Nazel is too hard for me!

The wyvern began to wriggle as I was puzzled, perhaps in a hurry.

"Wah, I'm going to fall if I keep going like this!"

I almost lost my balance, but then I gave up and jumped toward Lord Nazel.

Lord Nazel caught me as I jumped without any difficulty. He is thin but strong.

"Agnes is so light."

Lord Nazel smiled at me as he held me in his arms. Maybe it's because I'm wearing light clothes today.

But still...

"Oh, um..."

Lord Nazel didn't show any sign of putting me down on the ground.

If we keep up with this, he might find out that my heart is going wild.

"Your heart is pounding loudly, Agnes."

I've been found out!

But ...... for some reason, Lord Nazel looks happy.

While I was freaking out by myself, another person appeared from inside the building. It was a bureaucrat with glasses and a slightly pale complexion.

He looks even paler when he sees the two wyverns.

"Tony! Why are the Wyverns......"

When Tony was approached, he said, "Oh, shit!" and tried to escape.

But this is a rooftop. We would have to get on the wyvern or use the back door to escape.

When the bureaucrat caught sight of us, he told us in a cringing tone.

"I am terribly sorry that my men seem to have mistaken the cavalry beast to be sent for you to ride. We had planned to arrange for a pegasus."

This man is looking very embarrassed. He looks pale, is he all right?

The apologetic Lord Nazel replies cheerfully.

"I'm fine, I can fly wyverns. My wife and I had a nice flight."

The pale-faced man leads us into the building, dragging the captured Tony along with him.

And Master Nazel used his professional tone to address him.

As we were ushered into a relatively clean room, the pale-faced man greeted us again.

"Welcome to Sutrena. My name is Henry Birkett, and I am the regional officer."

"I am Nazelbert. This is my wife, Agnes."

I bowed politely.

By the way, Mr. Henry looks pale. Perhaps we should end the conversation early and let him rest.

"As you probably know, there is currently no lord in the Sutrena fiefdom, and I, who was dispatched from the royal capital, was organizing the frontier on their behalf."

I was told that Mr. Henry is the third son of a viscount who does not own a fiefdom.

He originally worked at the royal palace but was sent to the frontier because he disagreed with his superiors.

I wonder, I feel like this ...... frontier work is a punishment.

Is this place really that bad?
