Lack of Love

Chapter 22

The next morning,

When Yan Hao woke up , he looked at Zhong Qiran for a while and couldn’t resist pinning him down and giving him a passionate kiss. Zhong Qiran’s eyes shimmered with moisture, panting, and his cheeks flushed. Yan Hao kept planting kisses on him from his nose to his forehead as Zhong Qiran was cutely struggling to flee from his clingy spouse.

If it weren’t for Yan Hao’s mother noticing the time and intentionally yelling from the living room, “You’ll be late for work,” Yan Hao probably wouldn’t have stopped.

So, when they arrived at the office, Zhong Qiran was unusually unfocused and kept zoning out.

Although there didn’t seem to be any significant improvement in Yan Hao’s condition, Zhong Qiran could increasingly sense certain emotions from his eyes, especially lately, as if he could feel Yan Hao’s possessiveness. The most evident moments were when they had intimate encounters. Zhong Qiran had previously believed it was simply because Yan Hao instinctively relied on him, and he had already mentally prepared himself for a “perhaps this is how it will be for the rest of our lives” scenario. However, Yan Hao’s slightly capricious actions this morning gave him a glimmer of hope.

As for the details… he didn’t really want to dwell on them. Although it was quite embarrassing to talk about such matters, after much hesitation, he decided to seek the advice of the psychologist he had consulted last time. He couldn’t possibly discuss this matter with Yan Hao, and he had even less opportunity to do so after going home. So, before starting work, he secretly hid in the restroom to make a phone call and asked the doctor to which his response was, “give it a try.”

Zhong Qiran didn’t know what to say.

During the morning meeting, he was somewhat absent-minded, thinking about what happened this morning and the doctor’s words. So when Yan Hao called him, he didn’t react as quickly as usual.

“Zhong Qiran.”

Yan Hao had a stern expression on his face, staring at him without any expression.

It was only then that Zhong Qiran snapped out of it, and everyone else in the room felt a cold sweat from him. Yan Hao was known for being strict when it came to work and treated everyone the same. Before marrying Zhong Qiran, many female employees had tried to get close to him or tempted him under the guise of work, but he had driven them away showing no mercy.

Zhong Qiran knew he was about to be scolded, but Yan Hao said, “Come to my office after the meeting.”

The onlookers cast sympathetic glances at Zhong Qiran, and he felt a bit uncomfortable after hearing those words.

Zhong Qiran followed Yan Hao to the office and stood in front of his desk.

Yan Hao sat in his chair and looked up at him with a boss-like aura. “What were you thinking just now?”

“Nothing”

He met Yan Hao’s penetrating gaze which was suddenly filled with desire and he knew what that meant. What would happen if Yan Hao knew what the psychologist had said? He didn’t dare to think about it. In his panic, he blurted out, “I don’t want to do it in the office…”

Yan Hao understood, “Did I say it would be in the office?”

Zhong Qiran just wanted to bite his own tongue off.

Yan Hao asked him quite seriously, “Or do you want to give it a try?”

“Of course not.”

Yan Hao stopped talking and waited for Zhong Qiran to speak first. As a successful boss, his imposing presence alone was enough to make others retreat. He had a clear distinction between his public and private life. He would never treat Zhong Qiran with such an attitude at home. But Zhong Qiran seemed distracted at the wrong time. What could be bothering him to such an extent? Yan Hao really wanted to know.

Taking a deep breath, Zhong Qiran calmed his emotions and said, “I just feel that you’ve been acting a bit strange these past two days.”

Upon hearing these words, Yan Hao inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief. He himself seemed to have noticed something, but couldn’t grasp it. He stared at Zhong Qiran’s slightly flushed lips and asked, “Did I scare you that much these past few days?”

“A little…” Zhong Qiran was relieved that Yan Hao didn’t press further, but this topic also made him uncomfortable. He quickly spoke before Yan Hao could express his opinion, “I know I shouldn’t be distracted, but let’s discuss personal matters after work.”

Ultimately, Yan Hao didn’t push him too hard. He just nodded, gave some instructions on the matters discussed in the meeting, and let him go.

Due to the successful collaboration on the previous case, the company recently received a large order. The initial signing and cooperation details had to be flawless, and Zhong Qiran was in charge of that important part. It was understandable that Yan Hao would overreact a bit. Both of them had to work overtime those past few days, and dinner was also taken care of by the company.

After finishing that day’s scheduled tasks, it was already 9 p.m. Most of the employees who stayed behind to work had left, and the office was pitch black.

Zhong Qiran packed his things, turned off the lights, took the elevator upstairs, and planned to wait for Yan Hao in his office.

Yan Hao was indeed busy. He was on an international call, explaining some matters to the person in charge on the other side. There was a pile of documents on his desk, clearly related to the data analysis and reports for the current order.

Zhong Qiran didn’t disturb him. He sat on the nearby sofa and scrolled through his phone. However, after staring at the computer screen all day, his eyes were tired and uncomfortable. He played with his phone for a while, then simply lay back on the sofa and closed his eyes to rest.

Yan Hao had noticed Zhong Qiran entering the office earlier. After finishing his phone call, he glanced in his direction and made another call.

In a drowsy state, Zhong Qiran listened to Yan Hao’s voice but unknowingly fell asleep. The sound of conversation gradually stopped, replaced by some light rustling as things were being tidied up. He heard Yan Hao’s footsteps and regained consciousness. “Is it over?”

He was indeed tired and not fully awake. His voice sounded a bit soft and nasal.

Yan Hao stood in front of him, lowered his head, and kissed his lips.

Zhong Qiran thought it was just a light kiss and didn’t refuse. But Yan Hao kissed deeper.

Yan Hao stood in his way, his hands on either side, completely blocking his him. After ending the deep kiss, he gently bit Zhong Qiran’s earlobe. “Didn’t you want to try something in the office?”

The breath that entered his ear made Zhong Qiran a bit ticklish, and he couldn’t help but move his body. “I didn’t…”

Yan Hao’s eyes, illuminated from behind, were deep and dim, as if a subtle flame was burning within. “It’s after work now. You can tell me. Is there something you’re hiding from me?”
