Legacy of the Dark Sage

192 Worked Too Well

Kyran glared at Nolan.

"I did not kidnap her. Didn't godmother tell you why I left?"

Nolan gave him a blank expression and shrugged, "She said you're going to kidnap someone who can heal your core—ow!."

A big spoon suddenly landed at the back of his head. He spun around and glared at Anette, who was standing behind him with a scowl.

"Don't make things up! I never said anything about him going out to kidnap anyone."

"You don't have to hit me," Nolan growled at her.

"I'll hit you as many times as I want!" Anette growled back.

Kyran watched their banter awkwardly. He already guessed that they liked to bicker, but in truth, they cared about each other...

'Okay, stop. Don't got there,' Kyran told himself when his thoughts started to drift out of their course.

Whatever relationship his godmother and Nolan had was none of his business.

Kyran cleared his throat and said to Anette, "I need help. She's wounded."

Anette looked at him and gave a faint smile. She witnessed the surrounding energies become agitated; that was why she followed Nolan. Even if Kyran did not say anything, she already guessed that the girl was not in good condition from the dark energy seeping out from her.

"Let's go inside," Anette replied, walking over to the door.

As Kyran and Zephyr followed Anette inside the cottage-turned-big house, Nolan's frown returned while he stared at the girl in Kyran's arms.

Soon his complexion turned pale as he got a closer look at the girl's face.

"You!" Nolan exclaimed and stopped Kyran before he entered the door.

"What—?"

"Did you just kidnap the Crown Princess?" Nolan asked with an accusing tone.

Kyran's brow immediately furrowed while Anette and Zephyr looked at Nolan dumbfoundedly.

"What did you say?"

"Crown Princess?"

"My master's woman is royalty?"

Kyran, Anette, and Zephyr asked at the same time.

Silence ensued. Then Nolan and Anette turned to Zephyr.

"Wait—whose woman?"

"Are you f*cking serious?"

They said at the same time.

On the other hand, Kyran's brow twitched at how the focus of discussion shifted too quickly. He did not even get to react to what Nolan had said properly, and now they were responding to Zephyr's?

Was what Zephyr said more shocking than Nolan?

"Oi! You guys really plan on ignoring what Nolan said?" Kyran glared at them.

The three looked at him.

Anette did not mean to ignore it, but she was used to ignoring most of Nolan's nonsense, so she did not react strongly to his words. Besides, when she and Kyran talked about Cyneah, they already speculated she was related with the Royal Family one way or another, so if she was the Crown Princess, it was not that surprising.

Nolan, of course, was more concerned by the fact that Kyran already took a woman for himself, and it was the Crown Princess of all women!

As for Zephyr, he did not care. If his master's woman was royalty, then it was good. It only proved she at least held a status that could match his master's prestige.

Feeling Kyran's displeasure, Anette gave an awkward laugh and said, "Of course not."

She turned to Nolan and said while giving him a stern look, "What nonsense are you talking about?"

Nolan played along and shrugged. He said, "It's not nonsense. You said he's going to kidnap someone—."

"I did not say that."

"—who can heal his magic core and, we all know only the Royal Family can have that ability. Looking closely at the girl, I recognized she's the Crown Princecss." Nolan explained, ignoring Anette's attempt to correct him.

Zephyr watched their awkward play with a blank expression. He muttered, "Humans," under his breath while shaking his head at them.

Kyran looked at Cyneah's sleeping face and frowned slightly. He knew Nolan was wrong. But the fact that Nolan was convinced Cyneah was the princess meant she bore an uncanny resemblance to the real one.

Unfortunately, Kyran could not confirm it because he did not know what the princess looked like.

It was not surprising for most Ylfaen citizens not to know how the Crown Princess looked. After a Spirit attacked the princess, the Royal Family kept all information and even images of the princess under wraps. Only those within the Royal Family and high-ranked officials in the Royal Army knew it. The reason why they did this was simple. They did not want other Spirit Masters to curse or jinx her using her image.

Thinking of this fact, Kyran was surprised Nolan knew how the princess looked.

Pushing this thought at the back of his mind, Kyran now understood why the damnable woman earlier hesitated to kill Cyneah. She might have thought Cyneah was the princess.

"You're wrong," Kyran finally said after a short pause. "She's not the princess."

He looked at Anette and changed the subject, "Please check her wound."

"Of course," Anette agreed.

Nolan watched them enter the house with narrowed eyes. He was not convinced the girl was not the princess. But he decided to keep his opinion to himself and observe first.

Heaving a deep sigh, Nolan also followed inside.

The 'cottage' which had been renovated into a big house now had more rooms.

On the ground floor, the previously all-in-one room became the living room. A door at the back led to the dining room, while a stair leading upstairs was located on the left.

Upstairs, there were eight single rooms, four rooms on each side. At the end of the hall, opposite the stairs, a ladder led to an attic. The attic served as Anette's 'Alchemy Lab.'

Anette and Kyran with Cyneah entered the last room on the left side. Since the room could not accommodate all of them, Nolan and Zephyr stayed outside.

Inside the room, Kyran stood at the side of the bed while Anette checked on Cyneah's condition.

When Anette took off the woolen throw, Kyran immediately looked away. Anette noticed his action and could not help but smile. However, her smile froze when she found Cyneah completely naked.

"Godson," Anette started, her voice stern. "Why is she stark naked?"

Kyran cleared his throat, "I don't know."

With narrowed eyes, Anette scrutinized Kyran's expression.

On the other hand, Kyran refused to meet her eyes and reminded her, "More importantly, how's her wound?"

"Humph, we'll talk later young man." She warned him and continued checking Cyneah's condition.

Kyran could not help but sweat at Anette's stern warning. It was not Kyran's fault Cyneah was naked. Why was Anette targeting him as if he was some pervert?

Anette's stern expression soon turned troubled as she saw the scars on Cyneah's body. She also checked inside Cyneah's body using her magic sense for internal injuries. Her brow furrowed at once after sensing something.

Anette pulled the blanket and covered Cyneah before she looked at Kyran.

"Did you give her the Invisibility Potion?" She asked.

Kyran looked at her and nodded, "I did."

Anette sighed, "No wonder."

"Why? Did it have any side effects?" Kyran asked in concern.

"No, but... I sensed that her body was not used to medicinal herbs and maybe even magic, so any effect of potions or pills she takes may work differently on her body. It's not a side effect though."

After hearing Anette's reply, Kyran had an urge to kick himself. He had avoided giving Cyneah healing potions or pills for this reason, and yet he gave her the Invisibility Potion. If healing potions and pills could be compared to a mild poison, an Invisibility Potion would be highly toxic to her.

"Is she...?"

"There's nothing to worry about. My Invisibility Potion is not toxic even to a normal person. I just think my potion worked too well for her," Anette assured him.

Kyran heaved a sigh of relief, then he asked, "And her wound?"

"Since her body is not used to potions or pills, I'll treat it normally. I will still make a potion that her body can manage and will have her drink it when she regained consciousness. For now, you've done a good job with the first aid," Anette replied with a smile.

Kyran nodded, "I'll leave her in your care. I need to talk to Nolan."

"Not yet," Anette said before he could turn to leave.

"Is there anything else?"

"Let us talk about what Nolan said," Anette replied. "I believe she's not the princess, but if she does look like her, it might become a problem."

"I know," Kyran replied.

To be honest, all sorts of thoughts were already circulating in his head. He just refused to entertain them at the moment. But once he talked to Nolan, they would talk about it some more.

Kyran had a feeling that Nolan would not leave Cyneah's matter alone. He sensed it when Nolan did not react when he said she was not the princess. It only showed Nolan had his doubts which he did not want to discuss with the rest.

"I'll think of countermeasures," Kyran assured Anette.

Anette studied him for a few seconds before she finally nodded and said, "Alright. When you've thought of something, let me know."

Kyran only nodded in response.

When he was sure Anette had no more questions, he left the room.

Outside, Nolan and Zephyr were silently waiting. As soon as Kyran got out, Nolan said, "Inside," while opening the opposite room.

Kyran did not say anything and simply followed Nolan, with Zephyr right behind.
