From experience, Nezar’s psychological state at times like this could only mean two things. Either I made a mistake, or I was about to make one. Whatever it was, the problem was that it was always directly related to my fault. I could not cope with either case anyway.

Usually, the best resolution would be to nod obediently at whatever Nezar said, but unfortunately, now was not the time to take him into consideration. Because my first precious friend was being neglected at her own house!

“No. It’s a personal thing, so I think it would be a little difficult. Sir Pancion? Could you please spare me some time?”

Pancion’s eyes turned to Nezar for a brief moment. But he soon answered, moving his body in the direction I was standing.

“Yes, in a moment.”

“Oh well, then I would have to get up too. You will still be here, won’t you? Haha! Even if you don’t tell me, I am well aware. I know you are gonna stay for another while.” (saying to Nezar)

Lockherd, who got up quickly and adjusted his attire, strode past Pancion and came to me first. The expression on Nezar’s face as he looked at us was calm. Our eyes met for a short moment, but he only raised his well-trimmed eyebrows once, and then quickly looked away.

Even now, though nearly seven years had passed, Nezar’s inner thoughts were still difficult to unravel for me. What was it that he did not like so much? It’s not like he was the narrow-minded type, and even if he was a little bit upset, he just had to be soo obvious about it. It wasn’t an act of a fifteen girl like myself but rather a particular mature guy over there?

“Tsk, you are always so tactless when needed. Why should you care about Nezar’s mood on his behalf, silly.”

Lockherd passed by and tapped my forehead. I was going to say something, but I had to pay attention to sir Pancion, who was quickly approaching.

I came out of the drawing room in fear of Nezar, who was not overly stubborn as usual. It was very stuffy when he was quiet like that. It was to an extent that radiated dissatisfaction and disappointment in every way, which bothered me extremely. It was also another reason to avoid holding a person deeply in one’s heart. No matter what I did, I had to be wary of him, which just made me tired.

“Shall we move to another place?”

It was only four hours ago that we met at the Chrysanthemum Garden. After four hours had passed, Pancion’s face looked quite fatigued. Why did they have private meetings even on day-offs?

“No, I don’t think that’s necessary.”

“I thought you would be in Entera, at least until the sunset.”

“I thought so too.”

Contrary to his tired face, his smile was very gentle. I was not confident to meet that ticklish gaze, so I averted his eyes and opened my mouth again.

“Caron also came here with me. I think I should tell you.”

Pancion widened his eyes.

“I see. Does she have any reason to come to Ezellot with you?”

Reason? It’s because your maids are tormenting her!

“Yes, I want lady Caron to sleep here for two days. It was a pity that we only met for one day, so I invited her. I’d like to get permission from Lord Pancion, if that’s okay with you.”

What I was trying to say was that Caron had just come to Ezellot and that I wanted to stay with her for a few more days, hoping he would allow her to stay overnight. However, his mouth did not open as easily as I had planned. Because Caron, the person involved, was reluctant to ask for Pancion’s permission herself.

“As long as the child is okay with it, I don’t mind. But did milady really want to see me for that reason?”

Pancion’s expression remained calm. Did I make it that obvious? It seemed that it was not easy to deceive the eyes of others. Now that it had come to this, I decided to just take it easy. The situation Caron was going through was, to say the least, a form of domestic violence. Ignoring and quietly enduring it would never be the right decision.

“No. Actually, what I was trying to tell you was a little different.”

I was going to hold back for the time being. Once she did not need to withstand it anymore, I could tell him then.

“But since you gave me permission, lady Caron will spend two days in Ezelot with me. Don’t worry too much, I and my maids will take good care of her. After all, Ezellot’s workers are not as rude as anywhere else.”

Of course, not disclosing it directly did not mean that I would refrain from expressing it indirectly.

Did he understand the meaning of my words?

Pancion still seemed clueless.

He bowed briefly and then turned his back on me. Only after his dark blond hair had disappeared around the corner did I turn and push the door back to the parlor. I just wanted to find a lover for Nezar, but how did I end up meddling in other people’s family affairs? With a deep sigh, I opened the living room door and stepped inside.

“What did you talk about?”

As soon as I flopped my body down to the sofa, right by his side, he immediately opened his mouth to question me. His silent gaze was directed at the wide map spread out on the table.

“Well…”

I moistened my dry lips at his question. The map Nezar was looking at was very different from the map I knew in many ways. Judging by the abundance of arrows and letters, it seemed to indicate the route of logistics.

“The correlation between a peaceful family and a newly formed friendship?”

“What kind of nonsense is that?”

“You know, the feelings and the well-being of a friend. If it were Nezar, which one is more important?”

Nezar, who quietly looked down at the table, frowned at my words. The underneath of his eyes was black as if he had pulled an all-nighter for a few days.

“Is that friend Lord Pancion?”

“Lord Pancion or not, I’m not referring to a specific person, just a friend. What is more important to Nezar?”

The living room was cold even though it was filled with the vermilion of the late afternoon, and Nezar’s breath that fell on my forehead was hot like steam that had been heated for a very long time.

“Does worrying about this friend hurt their feelings?.”

“I think it’s something similar to that.”

“Then you just have to look after their well-being without hurting their feelings.”

“Didn’t you hear me? What if it’s impossible?”

“Then make it possible.”
