Chapter 59-Lingxi Ancestor Part 1

Translated by Snowfall77

Xia Ge toiled her afternoon away, trying to find anything she could on Lingxi’s first ancestor.

However……

‘On the XXth of the XX year, the ancestor of Lingxi and Monarch Chu drank together……’

All right, drinking alcohol together……some basic, normal social interaction.

Face expressionless, Xia Ge read on.

‘On the XXth of the XX year, the ancestor of Lingxi befriended the beauty XXX……”

Making new friends, that was very nice.  As the leader of a sect, what was more perfectly normal then to make friends with……a beauty.

Xia kept going, stoicism locked in place.

‘On the XXth day of the XX year, the ancestor of Lingxi rescued an exceptional beauty……”

Sure, the ancestor must have surely possessed a strong sense of justice and thus had been ever ready to assist the weak……saving people was totally in line with proper ethics.

‘In the evening of XXth day of XX year, the ancestor of Lingxi ate a piece of osmanthus cake.’

Fine!  She’d ran out of excuses!

Xia Ge stared at the words ‘osmanthus cake’ bitterly, hands slightly trembling.

Quietly putting down the historical record, the blue forehead veins that Xia Ge had been restraining for a long time finally popped.

System: [……Would You Like To……Drink A Little Water?]

But Xia Ge could hold back no more: “Drink my ass!”

What fucking historical record?!  More like the chronicles of the Lingxi ancestor’s love affairs!  History!  Historical data!  Official history!!  ‘Oh, today the ancestor of Lingxi visited a whore-house, tomorrow she’ll spend the day having a drinking party with prostitutes!’  Oh, was she still busy eating sweet-scented osmanthus cake?!  Who the hell wasted their time writing down shit about who ate osmanthus cake?!  Official history?  Wasn’t it more like fucking unofficial nonsense?!!

Xia Ge pushed down the impulse to throw what she’d been reading into a fire, settling on taking a few deep breaths instead.  “I made a mistake, this wasn’t the place to find anything useful……little puppet, do you know what they couldn’t be arsed to write down one single time?  The fucking real name of Lingxi’s ancestor!”

System: [……]

Fair enough, that was frustrating.

“Lingxi’s ancestor was only called the ancestor of Lingxi?  Does that make sense?  A person has to have a name, right?  Whatever.  She was the leader of Lingxi Sect, her name should live on for generations, nevermind whatever awesome abilities and the stuff she did to reach the top……at the very least, her real name should have been recorded!”

Putting the record back where she’d found it, Xia Ge suddenly felt very tired.

“Little puppet, how long have I been down here?”

[It Is 6PM.]

6PM?

That meant Xia Ge had wasted a whole afternoon reading what the ancestor drank and ate one day and what beauty she’d met the next?

Yep.  She’d flipped through the whole bookshelf, only to find that all the available records about Lingxi’s ancestor were trivial nonsense and lacking any historical import.

Nothing, but tales of a fucking drunk.  And Xia Ge hadn’t even gotten started on her 30 copies of the Danxun.

The system pondered carefully: [Actually, If You Look At It A Certain Way……It’s Impressive That Her Hobbies Could Be Recorded In Such Detail For That Many Years.]

Xia Ge: “It would be interesting to know why or how she got somebody to write down so much drivel……”

Still frustrated, Xia Ge ground her teeth: “In official historical records, no less.”

System: [Perhaps It Was Because She Was A Powerful Bigshot.]

Xia Ge: “……”  Conceding that that made sense, Xia Ge didn’t argue with her system.

But could anyone tell Xia Ge what had made Lingxi’s ancestor so awesome?  Where were the grand achievements and valiant deeds to slap Xia Ge in the face?!  Shouldn’t there be even just the barest of hints to win a humble disciple over?!

No!  Just a ton of damn recounts of eating osmanthus cake and making ‘social connections.’  If Xia Ge had been as well-off as the Lingxi ancestor, Xia Ge would’ve eaten even more!

“……let’s drop it.”

Xia Ge exhaled slowly, calming herself: “There’s got to be more than just this, somewhere……”

There had to be.  It was just that Xia Ge couldn’t find it with her current identity.

The system asked hesitantly: [What Clues Have You Found And What Were You Hoping To Find Coming Here And……Checking The Records Of Your Lingxi Ancestor?]

“In the ancestor’s tomb,” Xia Ge trailed a finger down the spine of a volume, “In the last stone chamber, with Su Chan……I saw something on the ceiling.”

The system was astonished.

“There were actually two paintings there, in one there was the person I saw in the previous mural, Lingxi’s ancestor……”  Xia Ge’s mouth tightened as her head started to ache, “The ancestor was kneeling in front of a mountain, holding a bamboo flute and crying.”

System: [Crying?]

“That’s right,” Xia Ge said, “I think……it was like she’d done something wrong.”

System: [She Was Formidable, Powerful……What Could She Have Done Wrong?]

Xia Ge: “Everyone makes mistakes.”

“That mountain she was crying at, I want to know where it is.”  Xia Ge thought for a minute, “Because that mountain and a piece of clothing were in the second painting.”

The system’s tone got a bit intense: [Clothing?  Was It The Zhen Hun?]

Shaking her head, Xia Ge gesticulated vaguely: “I’ve no idea if it was the Zhen Hun, the painting was kinda abstract……there was a mountain and above the mountain was some kind of clothing, covered with rays of light, while the Lingxi ancestor was……sitting at the peak, playing her flute.”

Xia Ge’s voice was irresolute: “I got the feeling she was sad.”

System: [??]

“And there was that line of verse on the wall I smashed.”  Xia Ge recited: “The bones of the dead mourn and the flute’s music is cut short, a sorrowful song……the end of Zhen Hun.”

“Don’t you think whoever wrote that must have been very sad?”

System: [I Don’t Know If The Author Was Sad Or Not, But The Zhen Hun Is Clearly Mentioned……]

Xia Ge: “……”

……nevermind.

“You told me the Zhen Hun was a very powerful Yimei.  ‘Suppress all kinds of demonic essence, while leaving souls uninjured,’ right?

System: [Yes, That’s Correct.  And As Soon As You Find It, You Can Immediately Upgrade Your Puppet Master Level.]
