Chapter 59-Lingxi Ancestor Part 3

Translated by Snowfall77

After thinking for a moment, Xia Ge went ahead and knocked on Ye Ze’s door.

She knocked and knocked for a long time.  There was no response however, as if there were no one inside.

Knock, knock, knock.  “Ye Ze,” Xia Ge spoke to the door, “It’s me, Xia Wuyin.  I’ve recovered from my injuries and I’ve came to see you.”

The door remained firmly closed, yet finally a young man’s voice came from inside: “Go back to Danfeng, there’s no need for you to be here.”

“You’re here, that’s need enough.”  Figuring that Ye Ze’s bad mood was because he was still angry over how late Xia Ge had been to Danfeng entry examination, Xia Ge continued to happily bang on the door.  “I know you’re there, just open the door already.  I came all the way over from Danfeng and now I’m tired from climbing this peak, shouldn’t you invite me in?  I brought a gift for you……”

The door was suddenly pulled open, causing a cold breeze.  Hand still up in the air, Xia Ge beheld Ye Ze’s bruised and swelling face, her voice freezing in her throat.

Ye Ze glared at Xia Ge out of blackened eyes, spitting out the words: “Do I look good right now?”

With no idea how to answer, it took Xia Ge a minute to sputter out: “You……”

“Who beat you up?  I’ll go tear them to pieces!”

Ye Ze simply looked at Xia Ge, his black eyes calm again: “Xia Wuyin, I won’t invite you in.  Go back.”  His face etched with cold rejection and forbearance.

""

Righteous indignation swelled in Xia Ge’s chest, but she finally managed to get out: “I’m just here to give you something……”

Holding out the black wood box tied with gold silk, Xia Ge continued: “I don’t have anything else to……”

Smack——

The box in Xia Ge’s hands was abruptly knocked to the ground by Ye Ze.

Having reached the limits of his patience, Ye Ze roared in a low voice that shook with repressed anger: “I told you to leave—did you not hear me?!”

Stupified at having the wooden box so unexpectedly and violently struck out of her hands by Ye Ze, Xia Ge didn’t know what to do, staying silent.

“Xia Wuyin!”  Ye Ze huffed like a wounded, yet still lofty beast, “Does it make you happy to see me like this?!”

Xia Ge clenched her jaw.

“From this point on, I need to you to get this through your thick skull——”  Pain and pride gleaming in Ye Ze’s eyes, “I am now an inner Jianfeng disciple—”

“Different from the likes of you Danfeng bastards!”

Gripping his door so tightly that his fingers were turning white, Ye Ze took a deep breath and sharply enunciated his next words: “And take your shit gift back with you, I don’t want it.”

“Don’t ever come here, Xia Wuyin.”

Xia Ge stared Ye Ze dead in the eyes for a long time, until finally squatting down and picking up the black wood box off the ground.  Watched attentively by a cluster of Jianfeng disciples, Xia Ge silently turned around and left.

Seeing the small, yet upright figure walk away, Ye Ze snorted coldly to himself and slammed his door shut with a bang——

Once he was no longer being observed by gloating or spying eyes, the tension in Ye Ze’s body slowly relaxed.  He leaned against the door in exhaustion, until he gradually moving to sit helplessly on the floor and cover his face.

——Don’t come here, Xia Wuyin.

——Don’t come here again.

——I can’t bear you seeing me like this.

——It’s……humiliating.

Jianfeng actually wasn’t any higher than Danfeng.

Why then did everyone think that Jianfeng was taller?

Jianfeng’s council hall, which rested upon a formation, was considered to be at the highest part of the peak.

Sitting on the roof of that Jianfeng council hall, Xia Ge gazed out at the scenery luminated by hazy moonlight.  Nearby Danfeng, covered in clouds and mist, loomed side by side with Jianfeng, not noticeably smaller at all, a fact that slightly bewildered Xia Ge.

When she’d left Ye Ze, she hadn’t been ready to return to Danfeng.  Instead she’d used {ghost and shadow} to climb to the ‘highest peak,’ the one claimed to be so much greater and grander than Danfeng.

Now, her wound dully throbbing, Xia Ge tried to sort out her emotions.

Ye Ze hadn’t meant everything he said.  Xia Ge already understood that.  He simply didn’t want her to be dragged down by her friendship with him.  The malice in those other Jianfeng disciples’ stares had been undisguised and inescapable.  Of course Ye Ze would want to shield her from that.

Air blows colder the higher a person goes, and mountain wind swept around Xia Ge, icy and fierce, eventually making her head ache.

Finally the system urged: [Go Back, You’re Still Injured.]

Xia Ge sighed: “First, there’s a thigh that won’t let me hold it.  And now you won’t let me sit here in the cold and wallow in my unhappiness?”

System: [……]

“I knew he was going to be bullied.”  Xia Ge stared down at the box in her hands, “I’ve known it for a long time, I guess I just didn’t expect it to happen this soon.  Why did I have to be a step too late?”

“Ugh.”  Xia Ge couldn’t dispel her melancholy, “Do each and every one of them have to be so proud?  People shouldn’t be this hard to deal with.”

The system did not reply.

Unable to think of anything else to say herself, Xia Ge stowed the black wood box away.  The wind was too chilly anyways.  Now that she’d cooled her head, she realized how silly she was for both climbing peaks when injured and worrying about whose peak reached higher.

“Ai, what the hell, I plan on moving up in the world, and when I do, not just Jianfeng, but all of Lingxi sect will have to kneel down and call me Daddy!”  Xia Ge gave the roof tiles of the council hall an enthusiastic stomping, “Fuck all your high-in-the-air noses, every last one of you is rotten to the core!”

Crash, crash, crash——

Jianfeng’s council hall had built hundreds of years ago, and owing to the formation it sat upon, its roof tiles had not been replaced in a very long time.  Over the many years, some of those tiles had loosened by quite a bit……

Meaning that the mighty Jianfeng council hall roof had fallen into a state of disrepair.

Xia Ge’s fierce stomps sent piles of dilapidated tiles falling like dominos, clattering and banging on their way down to the ground.  In a split-second, Jianfeng’s formally elegant council hall of many years had its beauty snatched away, now unanticipatedly resembling a bald head suffering from psoriasis.

Xia Ge couldn’t believe her eyes: “Damn, even the buildings are ‘rotten to the core?’

System: [……]

“Who’s up there?!!”

Obviously the shattering tiles had alerted Jianfeng’s security, and patrolling Jianfeng disciples started making an angry ruckus.  Xia Ge, having been up to no good, readied herself to slip away via {ghost and shadow}.  Yet before she could make her escape, her collar was roughly grabbed.

“Who’s the shameless person trying to run off after kicking my family’s roof tiles?”

“ Nice try, but wish again!”

TN—I like Ye Ze, Li Liu, and Chu Yao, but can someone just burn Jianfeng down to the ground already?
