Chapter 66-The Start of the Black Market Part 3

Translated by Snowfall77

System: [Why Did You Set The Price So High?]

Xia Ge: “……too high?”

System: [Spirits Stones Are Divided Into High-Grade, Medium-Grade, And Low-Grade.  They Are Not Easily Comparable To Gold And Silver.  One Thousand Low-Grade Spirit Stones Can Be Traded For A Medium-Grade Spirit Stone.  One Thousand Medium-Grade Stones Can Be Swapped For One High-Grade Stone.  Your Price—Is Basically One Hundred Thousand Low-Grades Spirit Stones.  And What You’re Selling Is Not A Xian dan, Is It?]

Hopelessly shocked, Xia Ge exclaimed: “Huh?  Spirit stones don’t go by hundred base, but thousand base?!”

System: [……]

Xia Ge wasn’t really to blame.  It’d been years since she’d read the book, and although The Boundless Beauty of the Wind and the Moon was well-written, that didn’t mean Xia Ge would be able to clearly remember the its spirit stone exchange system.

Besides, after coming to this world, Xia Ge had been suffering from extreme poverty or on the verge of going even hungrier than she already was.  In such dire straits, copper coins had been the highest currency she’d gotten her hands on.  Forget about dealing with gold or silver, let alone spirit stones.

It wasn’t like she even knew what spirit stones looked like; let alone how they were traded.

“I wanted the price to be a little high……but I didn’t mean to set it that high.”

Despair washing over her, Xia Ge stared at her pricing board.

""

Should she just put away her cloth and leave?

Suffocation! It cost ten copper coins to even try and sell something at the black market!

“Forget it.  I’ll wait a little longer.”

Xia Ge stayed put with her pricing board that displayed her high, high price, thus isolating her from the people coming and going.  Anyone who wandered near only needed one look at Xia Ge’s exorbitant price to move on without any hesitation.

Xia Ge: “……”

Cold and detached, the system finally said: [Give It Up.  No One Is Going To Buy.]

“I have to persevere for the sake of those ten copper coins.”  Making an excuse, Xia Ge stayed seated.

But the truth of the matter was that after racing to the wasteland using {ghost and shadow}, then making her way around with stilts, ‘ironman’ Xia Ge was tired enough to collapse.  All she really wanted to do was rest for a while.

Walking in stilts was not easy.  In her previous life, she’d barely worn high heels, now she using twenty centimeter high stilts, practically risking her life just to sell some dan.

Time passed slowly.

The ground of the wasteland was hard and barren, with not even a blade of grass to be found, and after sitting on it too long, Xia Ge began to fidget.

No one was showing any interest in what she was trying to sell.  There was just a parade of persons, hidden by black cloaks, or grotesquely shaped, or even fantastical in appearance, passing before Xia Ge’s eyes, making her tired.

Picking up the box holding her dan, Xia Ge slightly opened the lid, the blood-red and the gold of the dan faintly flashing.  Xia Ge was hoping to attract more buyers, any buyer, by doing so.  Yet she met with no success.

Since having the lid open could erode the efficacy of the dan, Xia Ge ultimately gave up and closed the box lid again.

The situation was what it was.  If she really were able to sell her dan at such a marked-up price, she’d probably be plagued by a guilty conscience.

Sighing, Xia Ge couldn’t help casting a glance at the person next to her.

Others’ black cloaks would generally conceal what was underneath, including their aura, making their identity impossible to guess.  Xia Ge’s cloak was not that quite that good, and plus she was carrying Guilongyu.

Guilongyu that warded off evil spirits and exorcized devils and ghosts, making it a godsend for robbing and looting.

While the person next to Xia Ge wasn’t just wearing a black cloak, but also a hat and a veil that covered their head like thick black mist, not giving away even the outline of their face.  There was nothing Xia Ge could discern about her neighbor.  Having to sit carefully to hide her stilts under her own black cloak, Xia Ge did observe that her neighbor’s posture was natural and relaxed, even though they’d also had no customers the whole time.  Compared to Xia Ge’s impatience, the other person was remarkedly tranquil.

Well, it wasn’t like either one of them was being pestered by a crowd……

Then, right at the moment Xia Ge was about to try and strike up a conversation about ‘business,’ a glimpse of something white caught Xia Ge’s attention.  Pupils contracting, without thinking Xia Ge raised her head to get a better look.

The passerby was wearing a well-fitted black cloak and a pure black ‘smiley face’ mask covered their face.  There was nothing distinctively different about the passerby from all the others perusing the market, except for——an obvious tear roughly at the waist of the cloak.  The passerby clearly wasn’t aware that, because of the tear, a corner of the jade at their waist was exposed, along with a familiar aura.

Pace leisurely, the passerby was headed towards the cave where Xia Ge had paid her ten copper coins before.  Perhaps because Xia Ge was close to that particular cave mouth and had her dan box closed, the passerby took no notice of Xia Ge’s startlement.

Hey, hey, fellow brother, your cloak is damaged!

Wanting to quickly follow the passerby, Xia Ge tried to stand up.  Yet as she was trying to, something apparently stepped on the corner of her cloak.  Her stilts already making things difficult, Xia Ge’s bum didn’t make it two centimeters off the ground before it plopped back down.

Looking around in bewilderment, Xia Ge discovered that her low-key, drab neighbor had stood up without Xia Ge realizing it.  Since both their cloaks were black, and perhaps Xia Ge had carelessly sat too close, the neighbor probably hadn’t realized they’d stepped on Xia Ge’s cloak in the process of getting up.

“……”

But really, stepping on someone’s cloak and saying nothing?

Xia Ge: “……”

……truly no intention of apologizing?

Although, after comparing herself to the height and aura of her neighbor, Xia Ge decided to act like nothing had happened.

Even with her stilts, Xia Ge still wasn’t as tall as certain people and so lacked the courage to rebuke them.

Again making to stand up, Xia Ge was further bewildered when her neighbor slowly moved to face Xia Ge and slightly leaned over her, one outstretched gloved finger pressing down on Xia Ge’s shoulder, clearly indicting for Xia Ge to stay seated.

Xia Ge: “???”
