LFTMPH Chapter 73-A Divine Beauty Part 5

Translated by Snowfall77

In her past life, before she’d transmigrated, Xia Ge had enjoyed doing her makeup.

What girl didn’t like making herself beautiful?

It was after she’d transmigrated that everything had become different.

But it wasn’t like Xia Ge had envisioned herself applying makeup in this kind of situation.

She painted her lips red and then put on matching eyeshadow, artfully shading it to flatter her eye shape.  Next came the powder and blush.  Looking in her small bronze mirror, Xia Ge hardly knew herself.

“……might not be a ‘divine beauty,’ but this is going to have to do it, isn’t it?”

The pursuers hadn’t made their way to the door yet.  Xia Ge stashed her mirror away and threw the makeup back on the dressing table, still barefoot.  Seeing herself in the dressing table’s big mirror, Xia Ge suddenly felt suffocated.

Reflected in the mirror was a girl with a face like a March peach blossom.  Youthful red lips, alluring eyes, and a smiling expression.  The only flaw was the disheveled hair.  But even that complimented the visual of a strangely beautiful, red-dressed demoness out in the middle of the night.

Xia Ge: “……”

But it was too late to fix her hair, not that Xia Ge knew how to do any complicated hairdos anyway.  Frantically looking around, Xia Ge found a fancy red headpiece with an accompanying veil and jumped back onto the bed with it.

Headpiece on, veil over her face, Xia Ge could hear the footsteps getting closer and closer, her heart pounding away, more fucking nervous than any newly-wed bride.

Forcing herself to take deep breaths, Xia Ge took her sickle out of the silver ring and hit it under a blanket.  If she was discovered, the other party was going to get it right in the face.

Who the fuck is getting married?!!  What fucking marriage?  This isn’t some ‘ghost’ marriage, got it?!

Xia Ge: “Kindly shut the fuck up, please.”

Not yet discovered, Xia Ge rested for a minute, the heavy fragrance pervading the room making her brain feel fuzzy.  Shaking her head, Xia Ge realized her body was also slightly feverish.  Something was wrong.  She tried to hold onto her sickle and pull aside the bed curtains at the same time, but her arms were like noodles.  Having to settle for lifting one bed curtain, Xia Ge’s gaze focused on the incense burner, wispy curls of smoke coming off of it!

The green light flashed through Xia Ge’s eyes.

Keeping it short and simple, huh?

Then, hearing something at the door, Xia Ge paled with fright: “Fuck!”

The pursuers were clearly just outside, although one seemed to be hesitant: “This is……this one is……”

“This one is what one?!  They all have to be searched!  Now open the door!”

Bam!

The door was kicked open!

Incense filling the air, a large figure wearing a ram’s head mask came into the room, looking around until they noticed the graceful figure on the bed.

“We are conducting a search!  ……you, on the bed, come out and let me see you.”  The ram-masked figure ordered gruffly.

Behind the large person, the others’ breathing sped up, their eyes lighting up.  Apparently, they were all quite eager to see the ‘divine beauty.’

Snow-white curtains were moved aside by an elegant hand wrapped in red ribbon, revealing a face covered by a red veil.  The beauty coughed softly, her voice muffled: “Everyone, as I am suffering from the chill these days, it is somewhat inconvenient to greets guests.”

“We are trying to find someone.”  The ram-masked figure was not going to be deterred, “Please show us your face.”

Xia Ge’s hand paused; her reluctance obvious.

“No need to be scared, just give us a quick look so we can be sure.”  Ram-mask’s voice was deep.

“If you must see, I will be respectful and obey.”  Still speaking softly, Xia Ge gently lifted the red veil, showing half her face.

Small gasps could be heard.

Exquisite eyebrows, beautifully painted eyelids, yet the most bewitching was the beauty’s violet eyes!

Those violet eyes caught every onlooker, heart and soul, rendering them speechless and immobile.

As if even the act of inhaling would destroy the miraculously sacred beauty before them.

Yet the next instant the red veil fell back down, a small voice quietly requesting: “You have seen my face, now please leave.”

At those words, everyone exited the room, one after other, like orderly ghosts.  Although the last one out thoughtfully guarded the closed door.

Xia Ge, about to breathe a sigh of relief, was startled anew when she heard an elderly woman’s voice outside the door, asking in surprise: “Aiyo, what are you all doing here?”

Before the woman received a response, Xia Ge smiled in understanding, telling herself: “Oh, I know, I know.  What a coincidence.  The divine beauty must be on stage, livening up the crowd.  No doubt she has a refined bearing.  Instead of hanging around here, shouldn’t everyone go watch her perform on the stage?”

But then Xia Ge’s pupils precipitously shrank as she heard the ram-masked person come back to their senses: “We’ve been fooled!!  You……”

However Ram-mask’s pupils retracted and their words choked in their throat, and in a second they were dead.

Joining all the other corpses littering the corridor.

Against the snow-white wall, the cloaked person slowly took off her bamboo hat, her pale cheeks exposed, her pitch-black eyes rippling with dangerous qi.

Calmly eyeing the dead bodies on the ground, holding an ayara dyed with hot blood, she felt no guilt.

Vague memories were gradually awakening.

The memory of someone holding her hand, grinning while talking to her.

“The little puppet says I should talk to you more, that way you’ll understand faster……”

“Aiya, aiya, slow down.  Now, I order you, lift up your left foot.  Ai, good, now your right foot……pfff.”

“……”

Gu Peijiu’s face blanched, the qi in her eyes slowly fading away.  Closing her eyes, she leaned against the corridor wall, more than a little confused.

Who was she?

——“Who am I?”

“You are Gu Peijiu.”

——“Who are you?”

“Me?  Oh, probably your……mmm, what?  The master’s words are rather strange……”

“Ah, I’m your most trustworthy person!”

“Anyways, no matter what, you can just keep believing in me!”

""

——“Will you believe in me too?”

“Yes, I’ll always believe in you too!”

Wave after wave of fragmentary memories, scattered……yet there was always that one person.

From birth to death, she had always watched them.  Never willing to let go of them, not even if it drove her mad.  Desperately disregarding everything else, except that person.
