LFTMPH Chapter 74-Wanting To Return Home Part 5

Translated by Snowfall77

Heading straight for Danfeng’s library, Cangshu Pavilion, Xia Ge threw her new clothes into her silver ring.

The ‘Zhen Hun’ that’d been sold at the black market might’ve been a fake, but Xia Ge needed to find some clues about the genuine article as soon as possible.

If the Demon Sect wanted everyone to think that the real Zhen Hun was already out there and accounted for, that probably meant one thing……

The Demon Sect was also searching for the true Zhen Hun!

So they’d released the false information that the Zhen Hun had been found and convinced people that the other Yimei was legit, all while secretly investigating the true Zhen Hun’s whereabouts.

As for spy Bairen……Xia Ge knew he was doubtlessly on Demon Sect business, but she had no plans on reporting him.

For there was that interesting thing called ‘counterespionage.’

At Cangshu Pavilion there were many books on all kinds of subjects, so it was not an exaggeration to call it an all-inclusive library.  Unlike Siguo Pavilion, where almost no one was interested in its books, the Danfeng library was frequented by disciples from every peak, and even had supervising disciples who worked there specially.

Showing her identity pendant to the disciple at the door, Xia Ge entered the library.

Cangshu Pavilion was huge, ancient bookshelves towering high, filled with bound books, one after the other, till there was no end in sight.  Thankfully, each section was labeled.  But since it was Xia Ge’s first time at the library, she had a hard time finding what she was looking for.

‘Danfang Section,’ ‘Jianpu Section,’……Xia Ge ran up three floors until finally locating the right area.

History Section—

Yet before Xia Ge had even taken two steps inside, she spotted an unexpected person.  In a flash, Xia Ge moved to other side of the bookshelf, nonchalantly pulled a book off the shelf, and turned her back.

She could hear the faint sound of pages being turned behind her.

And eventually Xia Ge heard someone cautiously say: “Second young miss, it’s not good to read up here, your eyes have recently……”

“Stop talking.”

A book closed with a ‘snap,’ and the girl’s tone was impatient: “Get out and don’t bother me.”

“Yes miss, yes.”

Someone left, and Xia Ge looked down at the book she grabbed, only find that ‘it was a small world,’ when it came to pulpy literature.

Who would’ve guessed that first sentence she’d see was: A long, long time ago there was a nest of bandits on Lingxi Peak……

Xia Ge: “???”

……the only aim of this type of so-called ‘writing’ was to keep the reader turning the pages.  And, no matter how crappy the writing might be, the cover design would also aim to attract.

Xia Ge took a glance at the cover.

Sure enough, there was bright, flamboyant writing that spelled out-The Stories of Wild Lingxi.

Fine.  Disregarding how much bullshit it likely was, the book’s opening had successfully caught Xia Ge’s attention.

Although where she was obviously wasn’t a good place to sit down and read it.  Holding onto the book, Xia Ge was about to noiselessly withdraw when she heard a soft ‘ah.’  Slightly surprised, Xia Ge turned her head with thinking.  Through a gap in the bookshelves, backlit by sunlight from the windows, Xia Ge saw a girl in dressed in Jianfeng blue covering her eyes with her hand, her sleeves embroidered with exquisite butterflies.  The girl appeared to be unwell, her thin lips tightly pursed in discomfort.

Xia Ge was feeling vaguely sympathetic when the girl lowered her sleeves and raised her black eyes to stare directly at Xia Ge!

Taken aback, Xia Ge subconsciously retreated a step.  Yet the girl acted like she’d seen nothing.  Raising a hand, the girl felt along the bookshelf, searching with her fingers until she found a gap.  Slowly placing a book in that gap, Xia Ge realized the girl was moving as if she were blind.

Chu Yi, having put her book away, turned to leave.  Unfortunately, she stepped on the bottom on her own skirt.  Stumbling forward, she clutched at the corner of the bookshelf to stabilize herself.

Xia Ge’s hands curled up into loose fists, her mood complicated.

Chu Yi slowly closed her black eyes and stood still for a long time.

Not daring to leave while Chu Yi remained there, Xia Ge simply waited.  Until, out of the blue, Xia Ge heard Chu Yi start laughing.

A low, cold, eerie laugh.

Tinged with madness and grudging despair.

“Why is it……”

Xia Ge listened to the girl’s continued murmuring: “Why is it me……why is it always me……”

“……hello, this……hello?”

There weren’t many people in the history section of the library, and the new voice rang sharp and freaky in the emptiness, sounding like a palace eunuch from hundreds of years ago, enough to give people the goosebumps.

Having no desire to be detected, Xia Ge was busy looking this way and that, only to abruptly discover a familiar dagger held to her throat.

The dagger was pure black and extremely sharp.  Supposedly it was made from a meteorite that’d fallen from the sky, and it was powerful enough to cut through metal or jade.

The Yunxing blade.

Chu Yi’s tone was cold and gloomy: “Who?”

Her black eyes were open, and Xia Ge saw herself reflected in them.  However, when Xia Ge carefully waved a hand in front of Chu Yi’s face, there was no reaction.

……she truly……couldn’t see.

“Oh, I was just passing by and I thought you looked a little indisposed,” Xia Ge talked in a shrill, thin tone that oozed with pretentiousness, “Is there anything I can help you with, Sister?  I could take you……”

The blade left Xia Ge’s neck almost immediately, Chu Yi recoiling as if disgusted: “No, fuck off!”

Breathing a sigh of relief, Xia Ge took a second to quietly put an item in her sleeve before promptly leaving.  Although she couldn’t resist taking a look back.

The girl dressed in blue and white, silver butterflies on her sleeves, was sitting on the floor, her back leaned up against a bookshelf, and one hand on her knee.  After her anger, her large round eyes were now listless.

Altogether, she looked weak.

System: [You’re Not Concerned?]

Xia Ge: “……she’ll be able to see again in a few minutes.”

System: [If It Drags On Like This, The Blindness Could Get Worse.]

Xia Ge sighed: “There’s nothing I can do about it.”

System: [Tianmucao Needs The Continuous Qi Of The Heaven’s Chosen In Order To Be Effective.]

Xia Ge had a headache: “I know.”

System: [What Will You Do?]

Xia Ge: “……leave it alone.”

System: [How Can You Be So Cold-Blooded?]

Xia Ge: “I’ve always been cold-blooded.”

About to go downstairs with the book she’d found; Xia Ge’s emotions were chaotic.  She had not expected to run into Chu Yi at Cangshu Pavilion.

Then there came a soft cry from Chu Yi: “You, just now, stop!”

With a jolt, Xia Ge instinctively ran away.

System: [What Are You Running From?]

Xia Ge: “When you hear someone say ‘stop,’ you should run!  I know from experience!”

System: [……]  What experience, and why?!  You have a fucking guilty conscience, don’t you?!
