Chapter 78-Demon Sect Spy Part 1

Translated by Snowfall77

Jianfeng-Martial arts training ground.

Face sunken and cold, a young man in black practiced a downwards slash over and over with a wooden sword.  It wasn’t a complicated movement, yet each stroke contained bitingly vicious qi.  Even under the scorching sun, he brought bursts of fierce chill.

“Hey……”

When someone suddenly tapped the young man on the shoulder, the young man’s expression turned even colder as he fiercely stabbed the wooden sword behind him!

Thunk!

But the other person was obviously prepared for such a reaction.  Blocking the wooden sword filled with killing intent using his own wooden sword, Li Liu moved to stand in front of the young man.  Li Liu next pointed helplessly over to a blue-dressed young lady lolling in the distance, ignoring his now numb hand: “Hey, hey……it’s me, Ye Ze.  Senior Chu wants to talk to you.”

Recognizing Li Liu, Ye Ze’s grip on his wooden sword loosened as he drew it back: “Right, um, thank you.”

“No need, no need, go quick,” Li Liu smiled graciously.

Ye Ze nodded to Li Liu before walking over to Chu Yao.  When he got close, he bowed his head, saying respectfully: “Senior Chu.”

Chu Yao snorted, looking Ye Ze up and down with narrowed eyes.

Ye Ze stood there, quiet and still, waiting for Chu Yao to be done sizing him up.

……this bastard.

It seemed he’d gotten a little bigger.

Chu Yao then recalled what she and Xia Wuyin had spoken about at the restaurant.

——“Actually, this is a small matter, but Ye Ze is my sworn brother.  I heard that……that Jianfeng’s great disciple Chang Lan has created a temporary guard detail.  Is that right?”

——“If it’s no trouble, could you……hehe.”

——“Give me a reason.”

——“Mmm, well, if you’re on the guard detail, you’ll probably become stronger……at least a little bit?”

Personally, Chu Yao felt the extra guards Chang Lan had posted were utterly superfluous.

So what if there was a thief who wanted to steal the key?  Chu Yao didn’t need guards in order to beat one or two people to death.

However, she was still just an alternative senior disciple of Jianfeng.  She didn’t yet have the authority of Jianfeng’s true senior disciple.  Therefore, no matter how little she valued Chang Lan’s extra guards, she accepted it.

But the next problem was that most of Jianfeng’s disciples came from good families that were either wealthy, noble, or both.  Jianfeng’s daily training already left them completely exhausted, meaning few of them sought out further hardship by signing up for a guard team that patrolled Jianfeng in the dead of night.  It was true that the guard detail was short of people.

And honestly?  No, joining the guard team would not actually make a person stronger.

Chu Yao had told Xia Wuyin as much.

Yet Xia Wuyin’s reaction had been——

“Oh, really?  Hahaha, I thought staying out late toughened people up, hahaha……anyways, you should have Ye Ze join the guard.”

Chu Yao: “……”

Who’d believe that sissy’s bullshit?

Whoever became his sworn brother would doubtless suffer interminable bad luck.

“You think Ye Ze will agree to this?” Chu Yao had asked Xia Wuyin at the time.

“If he can work for you, I think he’ll be ready risk life and limb!”  Xia Wuyin had briefly paused, “But, just in case, please don’t tell him I suggested it.”

Chu Yao: “……”  Then the short, sissy bastard did know that normal people wouldn’t want such a task, huh?

Done remembering her conversation with Xia Wuyin that night, Chu Yao refocused her attention on the skinny, wiry young man in front of her.  He carried a wooden sword and wore a pulled tight black undershirt that still couldn’t hide a faint bruise on his neck.

Chu Yao’s eyes narrowed a little more.

This bastard……he’d gotten beat up again.

——“In any case, please Miss Chu.”

——“I’m certain……if it’s you who asks, he won’t refuse.”

Twirling a blade of dogtail grass in her hand, Chu Yao regarded Ye Ze thoughtfully before getting straight to the point: “My guard, will you join or not?”

Ye Ze stared blankly, stumped until he recalled the announcement that’d been made.

Most Jianfeng disciples hadn’t been interested in the guard detail, although Ye Ze actually had been a little.  It was just that he didn’t have a good relationship with the person doing the registering.  Ye Ze hadn’t feel like dealing with that, so he’d given up on the idea.

When Ye Ze didn’t answer immediately, Chu Yao figured he was going to refuse.  She was just about to throw out some bait when Ye Ze said softly: “Yes.”

“Oh?” Chu Yao was surprised, “It’s tiring work, you sure you want to join?”

“Mmm,” Ye Ze answered, “I’m sure.”

Tossing aside the dogtail grass, Chu Yao was pleased: “Right, you’re frank enough.  I like it.  Report this evening.  You can go back to your training now.”

“Thank you, Senior Chu.”

Chu Yao watched Ye Ze’s back as he walked away to resume his training.  Then, about to leave herself, Chu Yao paused when she felt someone staring at her covetously.

Casting a sideways glance, Chu Yao saw a young man in skintight clothes carrying a sword on his back and currently occupied with gawking at Chu Yao with starry eyes.

If anyone from the black market auction had been around, they would have recognized him as the complete imbecile who’d bought a fake Yimei for ten million high grade spirit stones.

Although Chu Yao did not know the full extent of the young man’s folly, she did remember his identity.

Chang Nian, a talented, and very, very coddled son of the Chang family.

When he realized that Chu Yao had noticed him, he clenched a fist and strutted over to her.  Once he stood before her, he took a deep breath and declared with bright eyes: “I also signed up for your guard!”

“Really?”  Chu Yao slid her light brown eyes over him, saying lazily: “Very good.”

Belatedly aware that her response had been rather perfunctory, Chu Yao assumed a more dignified expression: “Yes, very good, please give it your all.  I’ll be leaving now.”

Chang Nian: “……”

Chu Yao’s figure retreating, Chang Nian gave Ye Ze, who was conscientiously practicing with his wooden sword not far away, a brief glare before snorting to himself and turning away.

No one would dare to obstruct Chang Nian.  Setting out for the top of Jianfeng, he intended to go find one of his cronies.  Yet as he passed by some trees, he heard someone lightly chuckle.

“She’s very arrogant, isn’t she?”

His sword suddenly leaving its scabbard, Chang’s Nian’s dark blade flashed a cold light: “Who?!”

Clang!

A dagger held by a beautiful hand blocked Chang Nian’s sword, its blade pitch-black.  Pupils shrinking, Chang Nian recognized this dagger!

A calamitous star fallen from heaven, it could cut through metal or jade.  What was there that it couldn’t break?  The Yunxing blade!

Meaning the owner of the dagger was……

Chang Nian sheathed his sword, frowning: “Chu……Chu Yi?”

Deftly putting away her dagger, Chu Yi’s lips curved in a slight smile, silver butterflies gleaming on her sleeves as she said good-naturedly: “It is I.”

Her eyes then slightly narrowed: “This is our first meeting.  Please do not hesitate to advise me, Chang Nian.”

Dressed in blue and white on which butterflies danced, smiling prettily, slender and graceful, with bright large, round eyes, Chu Yi looked as beautiful as a tree sprite or mountain fairy against the background of lush forestry.

Looking a little memorized, Chang Nian pursed his lips: “You……hello.”
