Chapter 85-Wooden Doll Part 2

Translated by Snowfall77

Shoufeng disciples who smelled like bird-shit, every last one of them, were annoying beyond measure.  Or so Chu Yao thought to herself.  The second their spirit beast so much as sniffled, they’d act like the sky was fucking collapsing.

Chu Yao really couldn’t be bothered to care.

Eyebrows twitching, Chu Yao made the conscious effort to loosen her fists as she irritably told Chu Yi: “There’s no need for you to be here.  You’re just meddling in other people’s business.”

Smile still fixed on her face, Chu Yi glanced at the little puppet remains on the stone slab: “But I want to know what my elder sister plans to do.”

Chu Yao: “Again, it has nothing to do with you.”

“Must I remind my sister?” Chu Yi giggled, “Huomai, Danfeng……”

Chu Yao’s pupils contracted: “Fucking shut up and get lost.”

“I was just saying, why is elder sister getting so agitated?”  Having accomplished she wanted, Chu Yi’s attitude was unconcerned, “Very well, I won’t disturb you any further, goodbye.”

The following day the weather was clear, the sky blue and boundless.

But the night had been chaotic in Lingxi Sect, and Danfeng had suffered some upheaval.  Soundly-sleeping Danfeng disciples had been forcibly rousted out of their beds in the middle of the night, and then made show their identifying pendants to prove themselves.  One by one, their peaceful slumber had been ruined.

But as for Xia Ge, a highly suspicious Danfeng disciple, once she’d returned to her lovely room, she’d happily snoozed until dawn.

“Ah, so blissful.”

System: [You, Get Up, It’s Time For Your Morning Class.]

Morning class-

All the disciples were listless and downcast, except for Xia Ge, who was bouncing with energy, making the master give her a second, disbelieving look.

Xia Ge smiled brightly in return.

The master was the same master who been told off by Chu Yao over a kettle one time.  Therefore, when it came to Xia Ge, he couldn’t bring himself to view her favorably.  Snorting, he looked back down at his Danfang.

Not that Xia Ge cared.  Bowing her head, she resumed studying.  After reading for a while, she suddenly realized that something was amiss.  She quickly lifted her head, and sure enough——

Huo Bai?!

There he was, sitting to Xia Ge’s front left.  His Danfeng clothes were clean and neat, while his posture was straight-backed and serious.  There was not a thing about him that looked out of the ordinary.

Staring unwaveringly at Huo Bai’s back, Xia Ge’s thoughts were in confusion.

How was it possible?  How was he still able to attend class, apparently unscathed?  The little puppet that Xia Ge had exploded last night had been no atomic bomb, but it’d still been made with high-grade, expensive materials bought at the black market.  The blast should’ve been about the equivalent of eight or more TNT explosions……fine, maybe Huo Bai had thick skin, maybe his body was protected with strong lingqi……still, considering the surprise attack, shouldn’t at least his face been deep-fried?

Yet there he was, seated as if not a thing had happened?

Had the spy last night really not been Huo Bai?  Could it have been Bairen?  Impossible……surely that was impossible?

Besides Huo Bai, was there a second spy?

“Good morning, Xia Wuyin.”

While Xia Ge’s mind was racing, Mao Qing, who had dark circles under her eyes, whispered tiredly: “You look like you’re in good spirits……”

Xia Ge tried to compose herself, even though her attention kept drifting: “Mmm, not too bad……”

It’d all been bogus, hadn’t it?  Xia Ge had made so many sacrifices last night and it’d all been completely useless, right?

Mao Qing: “Were the melon seeds that I gave you yesterday tasty?

Immediately cheered by the memory, Xia Ge replied: “Delicious!  Milky and sweet!  I don’t suppose you have any left?”

Mao Qing: “I do, but yesterday you told me you’d bring me a persimmon……”

Persimmon?  Persimmon!

Before Mao Qing could finish her sentence, Xia Ge suddenly put her hand over Mao Qing’s mouth.

Eyes widening, Mao Qing made some muffled noise, while Xia Ge snuck a ‘casual’ glance at Huo Bai to see if he’d overheard anything.  However, Huo Bai showed no signs of disturbance.  Xia Ge breathed a sigh of relief, then placatingly whispered to Mao Qing: “The persimmons are gone, but I’ll get you some dried persimmons later, alright?”

Mao Qing blinked her eyes and nodded.

After Xia Ge took her hand away, Mao Qing, using her book to block herself from view, asked lowly: “What happened to your persimmons?”

Feeling guilty, Xia Ge answered: “……I had set aside a couple of ripe ones for you yesterday.  But when I checked them this morning, they’d already spoiled.”

Huo Bai still hadn’t turned his head.

Xia Ge’s eyes slightly narrowed.

In the end, had it been him yesterday……or not?

But if it hadn’t Huo Bai……was there really another spy?

“Oh, they spoiled?” Mao Qing wrinkled her nose, “That’s disappointing.”

Thinking about how the last of the persimmons she’d stolen from Jianfeng had been used up on a demon puppet’s head, Xia Ge nodded in regret: “Yeah, yeah, it’s a pity……ouch!”

Something whacked Xia Ge alongside the head out of nowhere and then it made a ‘snap’ on Mao Qing’s head too.

“Xia Wuyin!  Mao Qing!”  The master gripped a rolled up Danshu, practically foaming at the mouth, and glaring frightfully: “Getting more and more badly behaved, aren’t you?!  Are you not aware that you’re in morning class?!  Get out and memorize the lesson until you can recite it back to me!”

Xia Ge: “……”

Mao Qing: “……”

Clutching their books, Xia Ge and Mao Qing left with their tail between their legs to the entertainment of everyone else.

Despite bright morning sun shining down from the east, a faint mist still clung to the mountains.  Outside the hall, Xia Ge held her Danshu.  She’d tried reading it, but had gotten tripped up on some unfamiliar words.

But Mao Qing, sitting next to Xia Ge, was studying very conscientiously.

Xia Ge: “……”
