LFTMPH Chapter 94- Baimeng Cave Part 1

Translated by Snowfall77

Watching as Gu Peijiu took a bite of the apple, Xia Ge suddenly felt as ecstatic as a big prize lottery winner.  She quickly jumped out of the tree and ran over to Gu Peijiu, calling: “Senior Sister, Senior Sister.”

Bending her head down, Gu Peijiu looked at Xia Ge.

Xia Ge’s eyes shone brightly in the early morning light.

Gu Peijiu held the apple in her hand still, calmly asking: “What is it?”

Xia Ge was very earnest: “Senior Sister, is the apple delicious?”

Gu Peijiu considered carefully: “Mmm.”

Rubbing her hands together, Xia Ge replied: “Then, umm……”

Gu Peijiu: “Yes?”

Xia Ge’s eyes flitted here and there: “……er, about the……”

Gu Peijiu’s gaze did not waver from Xia Ge.

""

Being thick-skinned, Xia Ge finally went for broke: “Senior Sister, what is the interim exam about?”

Gu Peijiu: “Ah, you want to know?”

Xia Ge’s head nodded like it was pounding garlic, eyes full of eagerness.

It hadn’t been easy getting up early in the morning to go pick apples!  She’d had to avoid a group of Shoufeng disciples, and fight off a troop of wild monkeys.  If she hadn’t employed {ghost and shadow}, the wild monkeys probably would’ve caved her head in.

Since she’d worked so hard, sneaking around……no, no, for the sake of her hard work, it was alright to ask for a little bit of information.

“The interim exam,” Gu Peijiu spoke exasperatingly slow, “I suppose I can tell you.”

Xia Ge’s eyes went wide: “What will the exam be on?”

Gu Peijiu: “Liandan.”

Xia Ge: “Uh-huh, refining what kind of dan?”

Gu Peijiu: “Just liandan.”

Xia Ge: “……”

Isn’t it too obvious that the exam would involve liandan?!  Why not say what dan?!  What else would Danfeng give an exam on besides liandan?  Fortune telling?!  Suffocation!

Pretending not to see Xia Ge’s indescribable expression, Gu Peijiu glanced at the sky, calculating the time: “You should head to your morning class.”

Xia Ge’s posture wilted: “Senior Sister, I don’t want to go to morning class.”

Gu Peijiu smiled: “Oh?  What is it you want to do?”

Xia Ge: “……”  Go become a fortune-teller.

Morning class-

Resting her upper body on her desk, Xia Ge’s heart mourned over the vicissitudes of life.

Huo Bai, head wrapped in gauze, had also come to class, despite his rather comical appearance.

While Mao Qing didn’t comprehend Xia Ge’s suffering: “Why did it take you so long to buy coconut cakes yesterday?”

Xia Ge tried to perk herself up: “They were sold out, so I was in a bad mood and went back to my room to get some sleep.”

Mao Qing: “……”

Mao Qing then proceeded on to the next question: “……what’s going on with Huo Bai’s head?”

Thinking about the apple she’d snatched straight from a monkey’s paw, Xia Ge returned to her previous listlessness: “Maybe he got knocked on the head while visiting the brothel.”

Mao Qing started glowering: “……did you go with him?”

Xia Ge: “I’m too upright and honorable to visit that type of establishment!”

System: [Upright And Honorable People Don’t Try To Cheat On An Exam.]  Never mind that you failed.

Xia Ge: “……”  Shut the fuck up.

Mao Qing’s expression turned very complicated: “I don’t know how or if Huo Bai got knocked on the head, but you’re certainly acting like you did.”

Xia Ge: “……”

Deciding to change the subject, Mao Qing asked: “Did you hear about the attack of giant bats yesterday?”

Xia Ge: “I heard.”

Not only did she know about it, she’d killed the presumed mastermind with an arrow.

Recalling how she’d felt at the time, Xia Ge’s heart palpitated.  She closed her eyes for a second, trying to suppress her sudden nausea.

“I heard someone say the bats might’ve come from Baimeng Cave,” Mao Qing told Xia Ge, acting somewhat mysterious, “You know Baimeng Cave, right?”

Xia Ge: “What the hell is Baimeng Cave?”

Mao Qing: “You don’t know about Baimeng Cave?”

Xia Ge actually did find the name vaguely familiar.

Perhaps she’d read it in the book……but it’d been too many years, and she couldn’t remember anything specific.

Seeing Xia Ge’s blank face, Mao Qing pondered for a moment: “Even if you don’t know anything about Baimeng Cave, have you heard of the ancient deities?”

Xia Ge: “Mmm, I’ve heard of them.”

According to the legends, in ancient times there’d been deities who’d been in charge of the human world.

And even in the modern era, there were stories about deities, such as the goddess Nuwa or Fuxi.  That didn’t mean the legends were true though.  Therefore, Xia Ge considered the deceased deities of The Boundless Beauty of the Wind and the Moon as folklore and paid no real attention to any of it.

Mao Qing continued: “Supposedly there was a dream deity who was the master of dreams and time.  Baimeng Cave is where she used to reside.”

“Later, during the twilight of the deities, when they fell, Baimeng Cave was abandoned and became overgrown and wild.  But because it’s a place where a deity once lived, there’s always rumors about divine Yimei being there.  Others say that the dream deity left a magical weapon that can reverse time and space in the cave.  Or they say the whole cave is full of monsters, and whoever goes in there won’t allowed to die.”

Listening to Mao Qing, Xia Ge couldn’t help being a little bored.

Because, if there really was such a ‘magical weapon,’ wasn’t it just part of the author’s settings for the male protagonist?

“At one time, mobs of people were rushing to try and get into Baimeng Cave,” Mao Qing went on conspiratorially, “Originally, it was just a complex secret realm, and lots of people wanted to go in, but couldn’t, and had to give it up.  It wasn’t until later that……the secret realm started going wrong.”

“Baimeng Cave could appear at any place, at any time, and it did so incessantly.  There was no way of predicting it.”

“That was just how it behaved……but at some point, who know why, Baimeng Cave changed.”

Where Baimeng Cave appeared, a vortex would also appear.  Then innumerable monsters, Yimei, and even plagues would emerge from the vortex, frenziedly bringing calamity after calamity upon the area.
