Mahou Project!!

Chapter 9 - 9: A Dark Past

The village of Lauren was a peaceful town located somewhere northwest of Kalas.

Emphasis to the word was since the village is currently burned into the ground by a group of dark magi wearing black robes with the mark of a demonic tiger at the back.

Their leader, the one bearing the mask of the skull ordered his men. "Don't stop until you find the artifact!! Actually, burn everything to your heart's d.e.s.i.r.e muwahahahaha!!!"

A young black-haired boy was seen cowering in fear as he was being protected by his parents who are currently being harassed by 3 dark magi.

"No stop this!! Kill us if you must but leave our child alone!!" the mother pleaded the magi.

"Hmm, how about..." Then the dark magus who spoke uttered a powerful dark spell that instantly decapitated the father of the child.

The woman watched in horror as her husband's head separated from her body and fell to the ground.

"No." The dark magus said with a sadistic and evil smirk.

"Daren!!!" the woman screamed in utter agony as she saw her husband dead.

"Dad!!!" the child cried, witnessing such gory scene.

"And you are next woman. You two despite being worthless will serve your purpose for the betterment of our group, the Order of Daelus!!"

It was so sudden as the dark magus in an instant slit the mother's throat and her body also fell into the ground.

"N-no..." the child only muttered, his eyes devoid of anything but sadness and sorrow.

"Yes, understand this child. We do this for the glory of Lord Daelus and that one day, we will join him in paradise and together, invoke our wrath throughout Kalas on the day of Reckoning!!"

The boy just kept weeping at the bodies of his parents.

"Ah such agony, such sorrow!! Yes, such qualities are what feeds Lord Daelus' powers!!"

"Shut up." The boy just said to his parent's murderers.

"What was that child." The magus said with his voice dripping of danger.

"I said.... SHUT UP!!!"

Words couldn't describe the boy's feeling of sadness as he was suddenly engulfed in a bright white aura and his eyes turn white with no pupils.

Without warning, the boy chanted a powerful dark spell, the same spell that killed his father and in an instant, decapitated the two dark magi behind the killer of his parents.

The killer's eyes widen and for the first time ever since he joined the group he is into, he felt fear.

"No, that is impossible!! How can a mere child like you use dark magic like us!!??"

Unfortunately, before the killer could take his next course of action in dealing the boy, he was immediately slit in the throat by a dagger as the boy charge with speed beyond measure.

After killing off the ones responsible for the death of his parents, the boy fainted and fell down beside his parent's bodies.

Then the reinforcements from Moonlight appeared as they easily quelled the dark magi.

This was the time when Ura Moonlight, her appearance befitting to that of a proper a.d.u.l.t instead of the usual childlike transformation witnessed the whole scene as she arrived moments before the child executed the three dark magi.

'S-such power, and from a child no less. A Dark Mage? No... There is no mistake, he wields the lost magic, MIMICRY.' Ura thought as she approached the young boy and picked him up.

Then she smiled at the unconscious form of the boy and thought. 'This boy is destined for great things. I will raise him as my son. I guess Yura will be having a little brother.'

"And that is how I met my old hag of a mother, despite how she uses her magic to appear like a child." Ken smiled at that particular memory.

"So, you kept the Mercer name in honor of your deceased parents?" Ana ask as she look at the eyes of the boy intently.

"Yeah. Mom was insistent that I took the Moonlight name, but my original family name is the only memory that I now have of my biological parents and she respected that, so she allowed it." Ken answered the girl's question.

Ana stared the boy with total admiration. How can such a young man, despite having such a traumatic past still grew up to be a carefree, happy go lucky individual whose aura radiates cheerfulness and smiles.

"You mongrel, you are not so bad after all and I'm sorry for the harsh introduction and treatment yesterday.'" The girl of the dragon blood gave an apologetic smile.

"It's alright, I even got to enjoy a Magicka with you and gain awesome dragon powers" Ken grinned in response.

Then Ken blink in realization as he said. "Wait, so that means I'm a dragon now?"

Ana look at him, causing her to think thoroughly about this. "Hmm, maybe. Even though you copied my magic, only someone of the dragon blood can truly take the form of the said creature.

"Hehe, if I'm really a dragon, do you know any other fire magic aside from your dragon fire?" Ken ask as he look at Ana who realized what he is suggesting.

"Of course!! To test if you really became a dragon, normal fire magic won't work on you now. Let's see..."

Ana thought of her arsenal of magic and she came up with a simple normal fire magic that has nothing to do with her heritage.

"Here goes... EMBER."

The simplest of all fire magic did its part as the girl conjured a small amount of fire directly at the boy's arm.

"Wait, it does not hurt at all." the boy said as he did not feel a thing about the fire.

Ana's eyes widen at this predicament. Even the most basic of fire magic can cause harm to an individual and Ken is unaffected at all. "By Gaia's blood, your magic is really terrifying mongrel. To think that not only can you copy magic, but also alter your DNA as well!!!"

The boy grinned madly. "That just means I'm pretty awesome, right?"

"We should consult father about this. If this is true, then our family may not be the last of the dragons after all."

"Your father?" Ken wondered.

"My father is the current head of our family, Alexander Dragonheart. If he knows what to do in this situation, then it is him." Ana answered him.

Ken nodded and said. "Alright, when will we meet him?"

"Hmm, you can come with me this weekend. I was planning on going home to report my situation about my stay and studies at the academy."

"This weekend? Got it, but I have to ask mom first though." Ken said as he does not want to invoke Ura's wrath just for not asking permission and her being unknown of her son's whereabouts.

"You really are a mother's boy huh?" Ana teased the copy magus.

Ken merely shivered. "I don't want to talk about it."

The two enjoyed themselves talking as they were finally served with their respective orders.
