Chapter 1

Prologue — You, just why?

Why?

Why? Why? Just why?

Her hands, that was holding a document, and her clenched jaw trembled.

“No way…”

She couldn’t believe the name she saw in front of her. It couldn’t be…

Why was her lovely husband’s name Kairos instead of Noah? Just last night, Noah made her dinner and cake himself. Even this morning, she woke up with his kiss.

There was no way.

He was always worried about her catching a cold when the weather got colder. And on a hot day, he would follow her around worriedly and fan her. In addition, whenever she woke up from nightmares, he would also wake up to hug and pat her back to sleep…

That kind of guy… was someone who would kill her? That was all acting?

She couldn’t resist tearing up the paper. Even though knowing fully well that wasn’t going to change anything, at least she wanted it to disappear from her sight.

The torn document fell to the floor and fluttered around.

…No way.

Her husband, her man, was that Kairos Hadid she swindled?!

Kairos Hadid was the richest man in the Empire and the worst villain among villains. While she never actually met him, he was so cruel that no one dared to dream of betraying him. Obviously, she had no intention of swindling this dangerous character at first, either.

She merely swindled his errand boy!

‘I just needed the money for the resignation to avoid the fate of being overworked to death!’

Many information was about Kairos Hadid, and since he was so rich, she only wanted to borrow a little money! Of course, she thought of paying him back some of it when she became the richest woman in the world someday…!

However, she didn’t expect to be a wanted criminal.

Using an alias, she left the Capital hurriedly after finishing swindling. Thankfully, everything was fine in the end, as the wanted flyers were forgotten… so even though she thought everything had ended, she was actually happily dancing at the palm of the villain all along—!

“Madame, the Master is back.”

Hiccup!

Surprised, a hiccup slipped from her mouth.

Noah was here…

“Oh, oh. I’ll be out soon! Tell Noah I’ll be right there!”

“Yes, Madame.”

She hurriedly picked up the fallen piece of paper and threw them away when the maid was gone.

“W, what to do?”

‘…I’m dead. How could he fool me like this?’

How cruel was he if he really killed her? Would he look at her face or run away after killing her?

“Hazel.”

As she was chewing on her nails, a sweet voice could be heard coming from behind.

‘Look at that, he was finally here!’

Turning around, she welcomed him immediately while trying to put a bright smile on her face.

“N-Noah… you’re here?”

The man in front of her grinned giddily and spread his arms.

“I’m back. Sorry I had to go home late today.”

As always, Hazel approached Noah and embraced him. It was clear that if she didn’t hug him for at least three hours, he would ask what he had done to upset her. His scent, her favorite scent, enveloped her as she hugged him.

He had a cool and soft scent with a hint of flowers.

Soon, her anxious mind began to calm down as if it was washed away.

Look at her husband!

Her one and only husband in the world!

…Something must be wrong. This couldn’t be true.

“No, I’m fine. Wasn’t it hard for you today?”

“It was hard because I missed you.”

Along with his reply, he gave her small kisses. His small kisses tickled her, so she laughed. At the same time, Noah, who shortened their distance, also laughed as if he was satisfied.

Ah, good.

As expected, a lovely man like him couldn’t be Kairos Hadid.

“Hazel.”

“Yes?”

“Are you cold? Why are you shaking so much?”

“Me?”

“Yes, you’re shaking so much. It’s summer, but do you have a cold?”

Asking that, Noah lowered himself and checked her condition seriously. Soon, his forehead touched hers.

“Noah?”

“I thought you were thinking about something else. I don’t think you have a fever.”

At the end of his sentence, he showed a friendly smile. It was definitely a familiar smile… a smile she really liked! However, although it was his usual smile, whenever she tried to calm down, goosebumps suddenly rose all over her body.

Noah bent further to look at her and made eye contact.

His eyes, which she always liked because they looked like jewels, seemed especially red today…

Her mouth sewed shut as the temperature changed in an instant. It felt as if ice water was dumped on her.

“Ah…”

“Huh? You’re really thinking of something else.”

No wonder his voice dropped lower.

Anyway, she probably should get rid of this clingy guy first. As she thought so, Hazel managed to pull him away and opened her mouth quickly.

“What, what could I be thinking about? I miss you, so I thought it would be go-good to see you.”

Noah held her arms and kissed her temple at her words.

“If I had known you were waiting for me, I would’ve come home earlier.”

“I-it’s fine because you’re here now! I’m sure the bath is ready, so hurry and wash up!”

“All right. Oh, and there’s a place I would like to visit with you on the weekend, Hazel.”

Flinch.

She stepped back unconsciously.

Instinctively, he put his hands forward to protect her.

“Wh-where? Where are we going…?”

“I really want to show this place to you. It’ll be just the two of us.”

‘J…just the two of us? Where the hell are we going? He wouldn’t find a place to bury me alive, would he…?’

Somehow, Noah’s sweet voice somehow sounded dangerous. Hazel closed her eyes for a while before opening them again with a bright, business smile.

“Weekend… right? All right. Wow, I-I’m excited! I get it, so hurry and wash up now!”

“All right. I’ll be right back, Hazel.”

Kissing her again, he eventually disappeared. It was only after the door closed that she was able to lean back and calm down.

Was he really the man she loved?

…Really?

If he really was Kairos Hadid… what should she do?

What if everything was a lie…?

“….”

She probably should run away, right? Ah, her sweet life—!
