Marvel: My Own Path

Chapter 18 - How Weak

"I understand," said Skye. "I'll take care of them, just be sure to clean up for me afterward." as soon as he finished, he returned the phone to his pocket.

He was silent for a moment, looking afar to the horizon. "I guess I'll take action tonight."

He then returned to the house after a few seconds of contemplation and headed towards the kitchen.

A while later...

As the dining room was filled with the aroma of a delicious and recently cooked cuisine, hurried steps could be heard from the stairs as a little figure ran down excitedly.

Wearing cute pink pajamas, Jade walked towards the dining room, her face as if in a trance.

"Hmm...wow!" Jade exclaimed as the delightful smell wafted into her nose. "Brother, did you cook beef stroganoff?"

As soon as she said her words, she immediately sat down before the table that still had a piping and steaming pot.

"Haha, yes." Skye smiled and patted her head before setting up the tableware.

"We'll be doing the mental training tomorrow when you get home from school," he said as he served Jade a plate.

Hearing her brother's words, Jade's excitement dimmed down a bit. "Eh, I really hate doing the mental training brother. I much prefer sparring instead," she said as she waved her little fists in the air.

Chuckling, Skye replied. "I've told you many times already, there are people in this world that can send mental attacks so you need sufficient mental strength against such people."

Jade grumbled in return before taking in a mouthful of rice and beef stroganoff. Immediately, her face brightened up, her previous dissatisfaction dissipating.

Skye smiled as he looked at his sister enjoying his cooking.

Midnight, Hell's Kitchen, Midland Circle.

Within the highest floor of the tower was a large room with a round table in the middle. Circling this table were five seats where two of them were currently occupied.

They were both women, one of them was a middle-aged woman and the other an elderly woman.

"It is time for the procuration of The Substance." said the middle-aged woman in a white suit. "Through my Millenium life, the effects of the elixir is starting to weaken."

*Tap, tap, tap*

In response, the elderly woman continuously tapped her finger on the table's surface, seemingly pondering about something.

She then said. "The opening of the gateway to K'un-Lun is coming, the return of the Immortal Iron Fist is close."

Alexandra nodded her head. "The remnant of the previous Iron Fist's seal is still intact, the appearance of the new Iron Fist will give us the chance to remove the seal and finally get the remains of the dragon that's under the city."

Madame Gao smiled, the wrinkles in her face increasing. "Those old fools still hiding in K'un-Lun doesn't have any idea how much the outside world has changed. Tricking the successor of the Iron Fist who has no clue about this world shouldn't be too hard."

"What about the other three? What are they up to these days?" Alexandra asked.

"As usual, Sowande is still silently warring against the Chaste; As for Bakuto that manipulative kid, he's still off brainwashing potential candidates in his training center in the Compound." Madame Gao replied.

Alexandra's brow raised and asked. "And of Murakami?"

"That evil piece of shit? Hiding in the shadows, as usual, his movements untraceable."

"..." Alexandra was silent for a moment before speaking. "Anyway, we should start synthesizing the elixirs—"

However, she couldn't even finish her words before the large window, where one could look over nearly the whole of Hell's Kitchen, were suddenly shattered.

At that moment, she could only see a black line with a crimson tip piercing towards her with insane speed.

Despite her innumerable years of experience, her reaction speed couldn't keep up with the black spear's speed as it pierced her shoulder, dragging her whole body along as the spearhead embedded itself into a wall.

"Pffff..." Blood spilled from her mouth as she struggled to remove the spear from her left shoulder, only to find it futile.

Right then, a voice drifted into the room as a figure wearing a black overcoat and a silver mask appeared at the edge of the window.

"Alexandra Reid?"

Madame Gao jumped back a few meters in response as her eyes scrutinized the unwelcomed guest. "And who do we have here?"

'Sigh... I guess I can only get flight ability when I upgrade the Kryptonian physique to Tier 2 huh...' thought Skye as he threw the grappling hook in his hand outside.

Ignoring the old woman's question, Skye looked at Alexandra whose shoulder was pierced by Oathbreaker, dangling on the wall helplessly.

"Ugh..." Alexandra gathered her utmost strength, trying to remove the spear.

Seeing this scene, Skye chuckled. "Don't bother trying to remove that spear unless you can lift a weight of 30 tons." his gaze then shifted onto his other target.

"Madame Gao I presume?" He smiled, his expression suggesting his carefree attitude.

"Indeed." Madame Gao answered. "And you are?" However, she didn't wait for an answer as she immediately dashed towards Skye with a palm strike.

Despite looking so old, her speed was simply shocking! Clearly, she was physically strong and fit despite having the appearance of an elderly woman.

"Well... dead people like you don't need to know, right?" Skye laughed as he activated his three-tomoe Sharingan.

At once, his golden Sharingan peered upon the incoming Madame Gao's eyes, turning her movement sluggish and her eyes eventually becoming dull.

The mental resistance that she was proud of which she honed for a thousand years in both K'un-Lun and on Earth, was useless at this moment.

Skye smiled and walked towards the old woman while glancing at Alexandra. "I've heard that you people were 'immortal'... let's see if you can revive yourselves once I rip your heads off."

Hearing his words, a chill spread through Alexandra's spine as she gritted her teeth and channeled her Chi to her hand.

Taking a deep breath, she then ruthlessly sliced off her left shoulder alongside her arm, freeing herself from the Oathbreaker.

And at the same time that she channeled her Chi, a smirk crept up on the corner of Skye's lips as he also straightened his hand into a palm knife.

At once, his palm was covered by a golden flame that was his Qi alongside arcs of lightning, covering the entirety of his hand.

He then swung it towards Madame Gao's vulnerable neck.

*Whoosh!*

*Thud!*

From Alexandra's terror-struck eyes, she saw her long-time ally's head, fly up in the air, blood clearly pouring out non-stop.

System: [An enemy (Tier 4 • C class) has been slain. You have obtained 10,000 system points.]

System: [Five Fingers of the Hand slain: 1 / 5.]

"Hehe, Y'all aren't so immortal after all."

At that moment, one of the five leaders of an ancient organization, and a person who had lived for a thousand years, died in an insignificant way, akin to a helpless chicken being murdered.

Seeing this scene, Alexandra rushed towards the door like a madwoman and kicked it open, trying to escape this place at once.

"Is this it?" muttered Skye, his indifferent eyes staring at the headless body on the floor. "How weak."

Skye sighed and stretched his hand towards Oathbreaker, which made the spear fly back to his grasp.
