Melting the Cold CEO's Heart
Chapter 76
Indeed, Will had realized that he was actually in a girl's bedroom where she was alone. More than that, it was his employee who clearly wanted some privacy to let out her feelings.
Still, something had come over him which had made him ask that question before, but the silence had made him come back to his senses.
Hence, he had been about to walk out, but Liz's voice stopped him.
"My mother was addicted to alcohol and drugs. Once, she was driving the car with my little brother in it and she apparently crashed into a tree and lost control. I was in school at that time, but I rushed to the hospital after finding out the news. When I got there, both of them had just arrived and they were placed on two different gurneys and rolled into the emergency room. On the way, there was a fork which led to 2 different operating rooms where each of them would be operated on. My little brother was unconscious, and his head was bleeding very badly. When the two gurneys separated, I was about to follow him but my hand was grabbed by my mother whose eyes were on him. That was when I saw her cry for the first time in a long time. And that was also when I saw the care that I thought had already died long ago. She- she told me to protect him no matter what. She told me to take care of him, and to give him everything he needs in his life, but also to let him do his own thing and find his own passion. She said that she regretted everything, and that she would do it differently if she lived. And… She said that she was sorry."
After blurting everything out like she was giving a nervous speech, Liz once again collapsed, as if it had taken everything out of her to say these words to describe the memory that had haunted her repeatedly over the years.
Blood everywhere. Sounds that she couldn't make sense of. And the feeling of having her hand grasped so tightly that she couldn't move.
Unable to do anything else, Liz gave up and started to cry her heart out while the CEO stood there awkwardly, having been given a glimpse into the life of this woman who had just saved Happle millions of dollars.
He didn't know what to do. First, he felt horrified that a child had had to go through that incident. Next, he realized that he was not the only one who was broken due to his childhood.
He knew that the two couldn't be compared, but he was amazed to see that just like his sister had said, there was someone who had gone through so much but still turned out to be someone so capable and strong.
Even while admiration surged in him, he tried to figure out what he was supposed to do now, but he just gave up and stood there.
Memories of his own inundated him, and he let them wash over him as this was something that he endured each and every day.
Yet, all that while, he thought back again and again to that scene in the room where Liz had fought back everything she was feeling right now and acted professionally to seal the deal.
Special. She really was special.
He knew that he had used this word to describe her many times, but he didn't know how else he could describe her.
It was like...since that moment in his life when he had been broken and shattered entirely, he had been leading his life in a darkness where he pushed away anyone and everyone who came close to him, without even seeing who they were.
He saw no one, and he had retracted into a shell.
But now, there was someone who shone with a faint light even in that darkness.
His heart was still frozen, and his shell was still in place.
But for once, he SAW someone.
