I was up at the first strike of four. It must be my body's alarm clock. It was still dark, and I wanted to go back to sleep, but I couldn't. Not with the constant reminder of the system that flashed on my face.
I whisked it away.

No way was I going to do that. Luke was sleeping just a meter in front of me while there wasn't enough space on the bed for me to fit.

Someone whispered in my head, and my eyes flung open.

My heart thumped so loud I was afraid the others might heard it.

Luckily, Soarsie stopped on her side again. But this time, she was facing me.

Guilt and shame overcame me at the sight of her innocent sleeping face, and I wanted to back away and abandon this God-given opportunity.

She was charming and nice . . . in fact too nice that I wondered what she sees in me.

I was hit by that familiar sadness again, and I shook it off.Yes! I balled my fist and shouted in my head.

However, my slight movement and the sound of my breath out of my nose cause Soarsie's eyelids to slowly open.

Whew. That was close! Too close for comfort!
