Ch7 (Leanhardt’s POV)

Marriage is the only event in life that I do not want to fail.

As the heir to a ducal family, I’m obligated to find the best woman I can find to be my mate.

By those standards, Miri is the best woman I’ve ever met.

After all, she’s the one I fell in love with at first sight, even though I’m picky about facial preferences.

And yet, what is it? What’s this strange feeling?

I thought I made the right decision to break up with Charlotte and get engaged to Miri…

Why am I feeling less and less confident about that choice now?

My beautiful future was confirmed to be a long and happy one with my beautiful wife and kids who look like her.

“Leinhardt, I want to hear your fiancé play the piano again. That was great. No, I would have liked to have had someone like your Charlotte for a wife.”

Charlotte’s talent as a once-in-a-decade pianist was praised by Jack, the heir to the Marquess family.

No, I’m re-engaged to her sister Miri.

“Leanhardt-senpai, I hope you and Charlotte-san will come again to the painting exhibition. I envy you being engaged to someone who knows as much about art as Charlotte-san does.”

Alan, my junior at school and a great admirer of Charlotte, told me that he was impressed with Charlotte’s knowledge of painting and was eager to bring her to the presentation of his new work at the museum organized by his family.

“Leanhardt-sama, I heard that your fiancée, Charlotte-san, won a prize for her geology paper! The Duke’s family is safe with such a well-educated person as his wife!

Charlotte’s academic achievements were praised by Marks, the second son of the baronial family and a long-time friend of our family, and he laughed, saying that the future of the dukes was bright with her. It’s as if the dukes are in danger without her….

Ever since I got engaged to Miri, everyone I meet talks about Charlotte.

It also doesn’t help that I haven’t told anyone that I’ve taken Mirim as my fiancée….

What annoys me is that they all praise Charlotte so much.

It’s as if my choice was a mistake.

And when I told them that I broke up with Charlotte—.

“Huh? Are you an idiot? I can’t believe you broke up with such a good girl.”

“You’re kidding, right? It’s not every day you meet a woman like Charlotte-san. Oo~h, so you broke off your engagement…”

“What?! Y-You broke up with her? Isn’t that a great loss to the Duchy?”

When I told them I had broken up with Charlotte, they all looked at me like I was a fool.

As if the fish you missed was not big enough…

I have Miri, you know.

See, you know she’s pretty, right? Isn’t she pretty enough to make you jealous?

“No, I’m sure Miri is beautiful, but…”

“But if I want to marry someone, I’d rather have someone who’s well educated…”

“Miri-san is beautiful. But that’s it.”

W-What? That’s not the reaction I was expecting…

This makes me feel like I’m wrong.

” Soo~, soo~, Fua~a (Yawning). Huh? Is that man still singing? I don’t understand…”

“No, that’s what opera is all about. Also, the reason why you don’t understand is that no matter how many times I wake you up, you always fall asleep, right?”

“Because I’m bored. Leanhardt-sama, please say something interesting.”

Ah! You’re driving me crazy!

What the hell is wrong with her? I think her brain is full of cake and cookies!

Your face is beautiful, but I’m tired of it.

On the contrary, it’s her stupid face that annoys me!

It was exactly what everyone said.

I knew it! Charlotte is good!

I’ve decided to marry Charlotte and live a good life!

I didn’t want to waste my time on this stupid woman who was sleeping three seconds after I warned her…!
