༺ My House Has Become a Filming Set! – 29 ༻

  4 months later.

“At least wear a work uniform.”

  “I’m a professional, so it’s okay.”

Lee Yeonwoo held a phone in one hand and a bug swatter in the other, conversing with the person on the other side of the screen.

Kang Do-jun recalled the incident a few months prior when Yeonwoo confidently claimed to be an expert but was stung twice by a bee. He frowned at the memory.

‘Where does that arrogance come from?’

Suddenly, the screen shook as Yeonwoo quickly caught a hornet.

“Did you see my quick reflexes just now? Pretty fast, right?”

  “…Sure.”

Yeonwoo proudly showed off the hornet securely trapped in the swatter.

“This one is called a ‘black-striped hornet’.”

By now, it seemed like he could tell the types of bees just by hearing the sound of their wings. According to Yeonwoo’s lecture, if it sounds like a drone, it’s 100% a hornet.

“Oh right, hyung, did you watch the broadcast last week?”

Even for Yeonwoo, seeing himself on TV was interesting. He was also worried that Han Taegu might edit it strangely, so he made sure to watch the original broadcast every week.

I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had the chance to watch.

  “Not even one episode?”

“Yeah, I’m planning to binge-watch them.”

Yeonwoo took a quick peek at the screen. Dressed neatly, possibly for an upcoming shoot, a hint of makeup was evident on his face.

It was probably a good thing he hadn’t watched. In the previous episode, a scene where he was stealing eggs from a chicken coop and running away was clearly shown.

Alright, I can forgive up to that scene. But they could have edited out the part where I came back sheepishly and got scolded by Granny Soon-Yi…

“You don’t necessarily have to watch today’s episode if you’re busy.”

Lately, Kang Do-jun looked incredibly preoccupied, possibly due to starting the filming of a new movie. He seemed to barely get any sleep, yet Yeonwoo appreciated and was glad that he still managed to keep in touch frequently.

-“No, I’ll watch it when I have time. No strange people coming to the village?”

At his words, Yeonwoo flinched. He hit the mark.

“Some do come, but they’re not too bothersome.”

In truth, they were quite bothersome. The stress he felt because of them was no small matter.

-“Whether they’re bothersome or not, if you feel it’s dangerous, you must report it immediately. Make sure the house doors are locked and advise the elders too.”

  “Yes.”

-“And tell Aunty Cheolsoo not to leave the keys under the pot. She should always carry them.”

  “Understood.”

From the conversation, it seemed like he was almost a resident of the village.

Holding incense in one hand, Yeonwoo brought his face close to the phone’s lens and started walking. Worried he might trip, Do-jun spoke up.

-“You should look forward.”

  “I am looking forward.”

It’s just that his phone was right in front of him. Yeonwoo had a stubborn side that made no sense at times. As he continued speaking cheekily while walking, he inevitably stumbled over a stone.

Although he managed to regain his balance without falling, embarrassment made his ears burn. Kang Do-jun, who witnessed the screen shaking, understood the situation and firmly shut his mouth, appearing to hold back laughter.

  ‘…So annoying.’

“I have to work, so I’ll hang up now.”

-Alright. Be careful not to fall.

Without replying, Yeonwoo ended the call.

He pouted. Lately, everything seemed to go wrong.

The puppies Ggami gave birth to grew bigger every day, and because they were so friendly, they’d jump on him, causing rips in his clothes. At worst, they’d even drawn blood.

It was the peak season for honey, so he was getting stung by the temperamental bees, and even getting harassed by the dogs. Moreover, the dogs, being clever, recognized when they were at fault. Seeing them with drooped ears and tails, whining apologetically, made it hard for him to stay mad.

And the house was a mess. He usually didn’t feel anything about the chaotic state of his home, but having seen its transformation after Kang Do-jun’s touch, no other mess could compare.

During a major cleaning, he’d bumped his little toe against a drawer, and it still throbbed in pain.

‘All of this is because of hyung.’

The unexpected concern, the sudden urge to clean thoroughly, the newfound care to separate laundry, and the meticulous wiping after washing dishes— all of it.

All because of Kang Do-jun. It felt like he’d been domesticated.

  ‘I’m not even a honeybee.’

Why did he have to do the housework, why cook, why cut hair, why show affection…

  “Sigh.”

After his grandmother passed away, he thought he had gotten used to being alone. But the traces Kang Do-jun left behind were like a massive meteorite that had struck the ground, leaving a deep mark, flaunting its presence.

There was no soil in Yeonwoo’s world sufficient to fill that void.

  “Let’s have a drink.”

Yeonwoo grabbed a large pack of soju he had stored in a corner of the apiary.

If he kept it in the house, Granny Kyeong might sneak it away. So, his careful foresight to store it in the apiary shone brightly. Inserting a straw, he drank it as if sipping water.

  The phone rang.

No sooner had his video call with Kang Do-jun ended than his phone rang again. It was Shin Gihyeon.

Yeonwoo preferred video calls over voice calls, and voice calls over text messages. Through consistent communication, his acquaintances had gotten used to this preference of his, so most of their calls were video calls.

-What are you doing?

Hiding the soju pack from his call with Kang Do-jun, Yeonwoo sipped through the straw as he replied.

  “Working.”

-Drinking counts as working?

“You know I’m working. You should do some work too.”

Shin Gihyeon looked incredulous. Just last week, he had finished filming the final episode of his drama, and was enjoying a long-awaited break.

More than that, seeing Yeonwoo drinking every time they spoke was becoming a bit concerning.

-Aren’t you an alcoholic?

  “Probably.”

With a nonchalant reply, Yeonwoo took another strong sip from the soju pack, which made a slurping sound.

-You didn’t drink during the variety show filming.

Thinking about the variety show brought memories from 4 months ago. True, he hadn’t felt like drinking then. Or perhaps he’d felt the urge but resisted.

Even though it was just an event from 4 months ago, the memories seemed vague.

-Did you seek treatment?

  “Why would I?”

-For the addiction.

“I might just live like this and leave early.”

-…Come up to Seoul. Let’s get mental treatment together.

At Shin Gihyeon’s words, Yeonwoo pouted.

  “I don’t have money.”

-You got your appearance fee, didn’t you?

Thanks to Han Taegu not scamming him with money or broadcasting, there was an unusually large amount in his bank account. However, the thought of spending that money on a hospital seemed wasteful.

  “I need to save it.”

-Stingy.

  “Give me the royal jelly.”

-I’ve already eaten it all.

Last time, he received royal jelly as a gift through Kang Do-jun. Recalling the request to transfer the money for the honey, he wondered, ‘Could this be a hard sell too?’ But since it was a gift, he was slightly surprised.

Thinking back, even the payment for the honey turned out to be just a gift in the end.

-Does your senior know?

  “Hyung? Know what?”

-That you’re drinking like a madman.

‘Like a madman’? Yeonwoo murmured under his breath, gnawing on the straw of the soju pack.

“Why would I tell him that?”

He was certain that if it were Kang Do-jun, he would drop everything and rush to him. It felt good to be cared for, but he didn’t want to burden him with his problems.

“Did you call to talk about this?”

That, and also, I’ll be appearing on today’s broadcast.

  “Ah, I saw the trailer.”

While Shin Gihyeon was looking at Yeonwoo on the screen, Yeonwoo’s gaze was elsewhere. Suddenly, he set down the soju pack, grabbed an insect swatter, and dashed off somewhere.

Soon, he returned with a triumphant smile and displayed the corpse of a hornet to the camera.

“Charismatic Yeonwoo, who never misses the signs of a hornet even from afar.”

With a tone reminiscent of a game commentator, he showed off the gruesome hornet corpse, causing Shin Gihyeon to grimace.

  Put that away.

Soon the hornet disappeared from the screen, and the frame jolted. It looked as if he was moving with his phone in his hand.

I wonder if he even understands the concept of video calls. Shin Gihyeon waited for the screen to stabilize, but for some unknown reason, the call was cut off.

Worried if something had happened, he thought, ‘Well, it’s Yeonwoo…’ and found understanding. He’d probably call back later, so Gihyeon brushed it off without much concern.

“Wow, it’s really Yeonwoo…! Everyone, it’s Yeonwoo! There must be a beekeeping farm around here! Thank you for letting us know!”

Yeonwoo quickly ended the call and stared at the man holding a selfie stick in front of him.

  “Who are you?”

“Hello! I’m BJ Beru. Can I film for a bit?”

Before Yeonwoo could even respond, the man shoved his camera lens in Yeonwoo’s face.

Yeonwoo’s image was reflected on the screen, and in real-time, comments began to flood in.

〉〉Told you he’s at the beekeeping mountain.

〉〉Damn, it’s really Yeonwoo. So cute, my heart can’t take it.

〉〉Hey, BJ Beru; you’re being obnoxious.

〉〉Only BJ pulls this off.

〉〉Such a waste to be in the countryside with that face. Come to Seoul, puppy.

〉〉Ask Yeonwoo for his bank account number. Ah, no reason, just want to send some support^^.

“Turn it off. I don’t want to be filmed.”

“Huh? Everyone’s here to see you, Yeonwoo. We can’t turn it off. Let’s hear a word for the viewers!”

  ‘What nonsense is this?’

Yeonwoo quickened his pace, trying to escape the relentless pursuit, but Beru persistently followed, trying to strike a conversation.

“Yeonwoo! Where are you going? Let’s talk!”

〉〉Beru, stop filming. You’ll make the kid cry. Seriously, this isn’t cool.

〉〉sjh*** sent 1000 chocolates. Why stop? Continue!

〉〉Yeonwoo, didn’t get stung by bees today, did you?^_^

〉〉Dude, you devil! LOL

“Thank you for the donation, sjh! I’ll be asking Yeonwoo a few questions.”

The man named BJ Beru took out a piece of paper from his pocket, presumably with questions written on it.

“First, how did you feel when actor Kang Do-jun cut your hair? Ah, did you watch the show? The caption said ‘Kang Do-jun using the tips learned from the hair salon!’ How did you feel seeing your hair cut unevenly in comparison?”

“Fuck off .”

“Yes, everyone! He said ‘Fuck off.’ He must have been really upset. Now, for the next question… Are you usually scared of chickens? When did you realize you were afraid of them? What triggered it?”

〉〉LOL, doing things his way! Hilarious!

〉〉Uh;;; This really isn’t okay.

〉〉Yeonwoo, you read books to sleep, right? Our little Kong-tteok has something in common with you, Granny is happy.

“Turn it off while I’m asking nicely.”

“Oh my, scary! Yeonwoo, you’re still cute when you’re angry!”

Beru exaggeratedly pretended to be scared and laughed it off.

〉〉LOL, the baby’s so cute! Growling.

〉〉Oh my, really now? Beru, turn it off already LOL. I seriously want to smack him.

〉〉Just turn it off already, please; he’s asking you to. What the hell is this?

〉〉Beru, why are you sniffing? It’s disgusting!

Reading the real-time comments, Ber paused for a moment.

“Oh, I smell alcohol from somewhere! Yeonwoo, did you drink?”

Beru stepped closer to Yeonwoo, pressing his nose against Yeonwoo’s clothes and sniffing.

Feeling a sudden chill, Yeonwoo pushed him away and took a step back.

  “Whoa, that’s too close.”

‘What the hell is wrong with this guy.’

He was so flustered that he couldn’t speak properly. His head felt dizzy, and he felt cold sweat running down his body.
