My Last Hunt

Chapter 28

A Level zero's Struggle (part 19)

The monster which was now moving to reach its target, got surprised again with this attack that came at it. Until just now, that hunter was running away from it and now it was attacking it. It didn't react as fast as it could.

This time the attack was on mark and if it connected, it would end up wounded bad. The monster felt the danger enclosing around it and started to take it seriously to break apart the wall that was now encroaching it.

If it continued this way, soon it would turn into a corpse.

"Everyone attacks together," the leader reminded his men to not give it another chance. The chasers that were still cautious started making moves to attack it. They just had to coordinate properly to ensure that the monster did not focus on any one member and this way they could slowly kill it.

All the monster had was greater speed and reaction ability. But in the end, it was just a level one monster. Its defense and strength were only at the average level one mark.

"Linwin, you should also join in, I will give you cover," Qiao voiced and Linwin came back to his senses.

The chaser streaked around the monster and whenever they got chance, they attacked. It was not that monster was letting them hunt it down so easily, but for this type of monster, being surrounded was the worst.

It was a literal struggle but gradually it became better. One or two more attack and Qiao had reached the peak of level one. The token which he was wearing under his cover let out a deep dark light and the usual light green hue turned into an ocean blue. This color indicate that the human had reached the first level of chaser.

He felt a strong surge of strength flow through his body. As a university student, Qiao was actually underweight when compared to his height because he was always sacrificing things for his younger brother and for study. But this feeling of strength that he felt, it made him know that he was no more just a skinny guy.

Now he could tell what it felt to have some strength.

His muscles felt stable, though he was currently facing a monster but he couldn't help feel a sense of glee.

He looked around and could see that Linwin was also faring better. With a chance, he had also collected few points.

The team right now was working at perfect collaboration and the leader was satisfied. He nodded and let Qiao deliver the fatal blow to end up the life of the monster. He thought that newbie would be glad and after getting few more points, he would be half way toward first level.

It wasn't that he was feeling generous all of a sudden, but his extra-large fleece and due to the measureless stitching of the clothing it hindered his movement. Making him let go of the opportunity.

It was just a minor issue and if he let others know he might be laughed at so better to act as a generous guy.

And Qiao was indeed glad when the leader gestured at him to attack in the end.

He pierced the shapeless weapon into the monster and the monster finally fell on the ground.

He got fifty experience and now he was finally a level one chaser.

All the open wounds of the monster started to throw some crystals which were transparent and but not hard enough to be called stones. These were soft and slimy, the chasers collected them and handed to the leader.

The leader was happy that this hunt was successful without any chasers that got injured or killed.

Just that he was not sure the worth of these slimy transparent crystals.

How could he really expect from a level one monster to drop a valuable spoil. Spoils also corresponded to the monster's level usually.

To have five to six men in a team was also a bad choice since they had to divide between that many. But the more the man power the better their safety. They were not powerful enough to hunt down monsters alone or take up a team of their own.

They would be happy just about the fact that they were alive and had even earned a few spoils from this hunt. They were always free to find another hunt if they were alive.

Over all, they were satisfied and even learned a few things from this youth. Especially the chasers looked at him with awe, they all ran away from the monster and did not even think to attack. But instead, it was this youth who made the right decision at the crucial time and they were then saved.

Qiao on the other hand was thinking to follow up on this path of resilience and strive to be better. He was still not strong enough to protect himself anywhere. Only his resilience could save him in times of trouble, he felt.

For him, resilience was to adapt to his present situation until he became powerful enough to defeat the wicked hunter.

The team returned to the Guild and started to consider to ask for another mission. Meanwhile, Qiao wanted to test what was the difference in the strength of a newbie and a level one. He wanted to measure the strength difference. This would be helpful in his next hunt and the calculations he always made before striking.

It was also necessary so that he could plan when he would need a new weapon.

He was in his own thoughts as he entered the Guild Hall. He wasn't paying attention to his steps when he happened to bump into another chaser who was exiting the Hall.

The said chaser was an extremely arrogant one, who did not consider anyone his match. He was surprised that someone would bump into him and even continue to walk as if nothing had happened. When he saw who it was, he remembered the face of the zero who had paid for healing of wounds.

Immediately anger coursed through his mind at the thought that some no name zero would even smash his shoulders into him. It seemed like he was being disrespected.

While such wild thoughts reigned in this person's mind, Qiao paid him no attention and continued forward.

"Hey, puny zero. Where do you think you are going after pushing me aside? Come here, let me teach you how to behave in front of your seniors." The guy growled as he pulled at Qiao's sleeve.

He did not think anyone might be so careless when walking through the Guild entrance and even if he was careless, he would pay for it.

The team leader also stopped at this, but Qiao gestured at him to not bother about this trivial matter.

He considered to solve it peacefully because he did not want to create any new grudge right now.

He looked at the chaser who he glared at him again.

"You caught it wrong, it was not intentional on my part," Qiao explained calmly but it flared the chaser instead of calming down.

"How audacious, are you pointing at me to be in wrong?" he turned livid and squinted his eyes.

Now the people in the Guild hall were getting attracted to this small mess which was going to be turned into a bigger mess.
