Mystic System

Chapter 9 - 8 - Looming Danger

Seeing the cat before her, she felt a strange bond within their souls.

It is a feeling which is indescribable, a sense of closeness between the cat and herself.

Iris could feel the emotions of the cat before her and so could the cat feels her, this bond feels inseparable.

Looking towards the cat, Iris smiled thinking she should call the little fellow 'Hope', as it never gave up its d.e.s.i.r.e to survive even after all those years it watched the hopeless situation before it, instead of losing the will to live like many of its kin it continued to posh on never giving up on that sliver of hope.

Seeing the cat seemingly agree with her decision by nodding its head, a system notification sounded out signalling the completion of a quest.

[ Quest: Curiosity killed the cat! Completed! ]

[ It looks upon you with a familiar warmth, from a hundred black tails and a hundred forsaken hearts, a companion has emerged to heal its wounded soul and provide it with blazing affection. ]

[ Reward: 15 Attribute points | 350 System points. ]

[You have completed four quests! You have unlocked the class option,]

[As primary class has already been unlocked, you can choose your secondary selection of class. Choose carefully!]

[Your affinity with 'Dark' has reached its limit.]

[Your affinity towards 'Demons' has increased.]

Affinity towards demons?

It seems the cat has demon heritage, and I presume this is the main reasoning behind a 'misunderstood' race.

Does that mean that demons will naturally like her more?

Or does it mean that she can summon 'Demons' from hell easier or something?

The possibilities of having an affinity towards 'Demons' are many, but Iris honestly doesn't know the real value of having such an ability.

I will choose my secondary class when we get back to a safe area.

Iris hesitantly used the skill 'Devour' which she received from the Eranyth Warlock class.

She saw black shadows emerge from her hands before covering the body of the man.

The man's body rapidly deteriorates, being absorbed by the black shadows.

She saw first, the skin, then the muscles, slowly the entire body of the man became devoured within the shadows with nothing remaining, not even the bones.

As the shadows returned into her body, she felt blazing energy filling up her body; slowly she felt her body becoming slightly stronger.

['Devour' absorbed 5% of the stats of the target, Increase in 0.5 Physical, Dexterity, Constitution and Endurance. Increase in 1 in Intelligence and Mana.]

Seeing the notification, it seems the man had both mana and his intelligence at 20 points, presumably this man was some sort of 'Magician' as she discovered that a normal human could not possibly have 'Mana' within their bodies.

It seems this is a lot more troublesome than she thought, if some supernatural organisation wanted Hope for some kind of ritual, they obviously wouldn't let her go!

As the man returned, he saw nothing left in the area after frantically searching around for David he found utterly nothing.

Deciding that David must have made a runner after killing the beast or something, the man returned to the organisation and reported back to the boss.

The boss upon hearing the news grew increasingly angered, a powerful fluctuation of mana emerged from his body, sending the man flying into the to the ground heavily.

"Find David and the beast, it is an essential component for the ritual otherwise all of my efforts will be in waste. I will give you the resources needed to find him, and the Cities Mayor is on our payroll so they will provide you with assistance. I don't believe not a single camera has caught the sights of the whereabouts of either David or the perpetrators behind the missing beast. I will send two mage apprentices and a Journeyman mage with you if you fail me don't bother coming back alive." The man's cold voice resounded through the hall scaring the man stiff.

"Yes, Boss I promise I won't fail you!" The man nervously responded, quickly leaving the room.

The man turned around, "I don't believe that fool David would dare run off with something that belongs to me. There is another party with interfered at this matter, and I will show them the foolish decision they made for igniting my wrath." The man said looking into the distance from the window with killing intent laced within his voice.

Upon arriving home with Hope, Iris rushed within her room, excitedly sitting on her bed.

Looking at Iris's antics, Hope just looked Iris an expression as if saying 'Is this human crazy?'

Ignoring Iris, Hope soon found a cosy area to sleep, soundly falling asleep for its 'cat nap'.

Seeing Hope dismissing her and falling asleep, Iris thought 'Aren't I supposed to be the master here? Why is it acting like it owns the place?'

Nevermind, Iris replaced that thought with a lively look at the idea of looking at the options of a secondary class.

She quickly opened the 'Secondary class' option.

[You can only select one class. Beware that once selected you can't change it.]

The screen disappeared rather fast, before leaving space for another one, which contained all of the possible class to choose from.

[Magician]

[Sorcerer]

[Wizard]

[Arcanist]

[Swordsman]

[Archer]

[Warrior]

[Magic Swordsman]

...

The list went on and the more she scrolled down, the more bizarre it became.

From regular classes to unknown ones.

It was incredible.

Finally, she came across one she was interested in.

[Shadow Hunter]

[Description: Assassin class, focuses on stealth and dexterity. The class provides methods for quickest and effective skills to kill, which alongside uses 'Dark' related affinity magic, makes them one of the most feared assassin classes.]

[Class skills: [Magic] [Middle-Level] Shadow Drive, [Physical] [Low-Level] Dagger Mastery and [Physical] [Low-Level] Sneak.]

Iris wanted to use this as her secondary, class as it will be a bonus alongside her strongest 'Affinity' and compliments her physical skills.

Iris plans to use magic mainly, but having such a class in her opinion will be useful if she has to protect herself without reliance on magic.

Thus, Iris selcted this class as her secondary class.

[Shadow Hunter] Is now your secondary class, unlocked class skills.

Iris noticed that she was already, 'Novice' ranked for the Eranyth Warlock class.

She discovered with magic related classes that you have to break through in mana to achieve the next rank.

Any individual below '20' mana is classed as a 'Novice Mage', whereas an individual who achieves a breakthrough with '20' Mana becomes an 'Apprentice Mage'.

Of course, at the moment Iris may lose to a 'Novice' classes magician class, as she has no practice with her spells, so despite having much more mana, she has nothing to output it with.

She is novice within her assassin class as to break through to the next rank requires '20' within dexterity and constitution.

Achieving the next rank will not only make your class-related skills stronger, but it will also help you learn more complicated spells if you are in a magician related class.

Whereas, warriors can access more powerful skills which require a stronger body to use.

Therefore, Iris decided that the next thing she will do is practice her magic!
