Nightmare Attack

Chapter 85 The outside world

The meal was very rich. Perhaps because it was free, Jiang Cheng brought out all the dishes he could.

Jiang Cheng stuffed a braised duck leg in his mouth and was still picking up crayfish in his hands. The shrimp shells on the plate were piled up like a small mountain. "Fatty, you should eat something anyway."

Fatty exhaled. He had no way to deal with Jiang Cheng.

But he couldn't eat big fish and meat. He picked up a piece of corn tortilla with chopsticks and put it into his mouth to chew slowly.

"Doctor," he looked around and asked in a low voice: "Do you think this is the real world?"

These words seemed to have been suppressed in the fat man's heart for a long time, and he didn't say them until now. He pursed his lips and continued: "You want to say it's not, everyone here gives me a very real feeling, just like the world we are in, but..."

"But if it is, our world will not have such a situation for no reason," Jiang Cheng spit out the bones in his mouth and said indifferently.

"That's right."

Taking out a free tissue to wipe his hands, Jiang Cheng looked at the fat man, "I've thought about this before. If the essence of nightmares is the reversal of time and space, then every time we open the door, the place we come to should be what people have really experienced in the past."

The fat man seemed to understand and asked in confusion: "What do you want to say, doctor?"

"If all this is in the past, then we can't change the result at all. In other words, whether we come or not, it has no effect on this world."

"I don't quite understand you."

Before the fat man finished speaking, he was interrupted by Jiang Cheng. He stared at the direction of the door, where the night was thick.

"But we changed this place, didn't we? Look around, how could such a scene appear in the real world? Here" he paused, and his voice changed, "It's like it's prepared for us."

The fat man's pupils slowly shrank, "Do you mean this is a world prepared for us alone?"

"I don't know, the evidence I have at present is not enough to support my inference, everything now is speculation."

Jiang Cheng took out two clean tissues, folded them, and then put them in his shirt pocket.

The action was rigorous and meticulous.

The man in front of him now gave Fatty a completely different feeling. He was like a precision machine.

Every gear, every bearing, every most basic component was on its own track, operating perfectly.

"Fatty," Jiang Cheng suddenly spoke, and the fascinated Fatty suddenly realized.

"You said doctor," Fatty nodded repeatedly, "I'm listening."

"Have you ever thought about the outside world?" Jiang Cheng stared at the door, took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly.

"The outside world?"

"Yes," Jiang Cheng moved his sight back, and there was something in his eyes that Fatty couldn't understand, "It's outside this school, not just the street across the street, the cafe, I'm talking about farther away."

"What will it look like there?"

Fatty had never thought about what Jiang Cheng said. Only then did he finally realize that he was not like Jiang Cheng, but they were the biggest difference between Jiang Cheng and him.

Most people were just thinking about how to survive this mission, and they were willing to make plans and plot.

In order to survive the mission, they had tried their best.

But Jiang Cheng's plan had already transcended the mission itself. He was thinking about something deeper that was submerged in the deep water.

For example, nightmares, and the rules of the mission given by nightmares.

Real rules.

He was a very honest man. He was honest in life and work, earning the money he deserved, without any imagination or extravagant hopes.

But he was not stupid. It was undeniable that Jiang Cheng's words opened a new door for him.

"I don't know," the fat man lowered his head in shame and answered honestly, then shook his head and whispered, "I have never thought about these things."

The atmosphere became a little subtle for a while

"Ding, Ding, Ding."

The fat man who lowered his head heard the sound of keys.

He raised his head and looked at Jiang Cheng in confusion.

He found that the latter had sat up straight, holding a mobile phone in his right hand and dialing a number.

All the plates and bowls on the dining table were pushed aside, and a piece of paper was laid on them.

The paper must have been torn from something, and there were still jagged gaps on the corners.

Looking closely, there were densely recorded names on it, and there were corresponding phone numbers behind it.

The fat man slowly widened his eyes, "This is..."

He recognized the material of the paper, which was very similar to the commemorative album they found in the archives, with a relatively oily matte texture.

Putting the phone to his ear, Jiang Cheng was silent, and the fat man couldn't help holding his breath.

This time Jiang Cheng still didn't speak first, but the fat man gradually found that as the call continued, Jiang Cheng's expression slowly changed.

But even if he was anxious, he didn't dare to interrupt Jiang Cheng.

Facts have proved that the latter is sometimes unreliable, but sometimes, he is surprisingly reliable.

At least the reason why his current 200-pound body can still jump around is mostly thanks to Jiang Cheng.

After a while, Jiang Cheng turned off the phone and put it back into the pocket he took out.

Then he put away the paper in front of him.

"Doctor," the fat man swallowed, "What did the other side say?"

Jiang Cheng stood up and put his camera bag on his back. "I didn't get through. They said the other party was not in the service area."

The fat man was stunned for a moment.

how come?

He didn't deliberately calculate the time it took Jiang Cheng to answer the phone, but it was definitely more than a minute.

Does it take so long to get through?

Although he was confused, the fat man still squeaked vaguely.

He wisely chose not to talk.

Since Jiang Cheng said this, there must be a reason for him, and after this period of contact, he also developed the most basic trust in the latter.

Even though Jiang Cheng would suddenly have a short circuit in his head sometimes, he would say some inexplicable things like he was the number one on the night shift at KTV.

Mr. Lu Xun once said that trust is a kind of funny goodwill.

The fat man believed it.

"Let's go," Jiang Cheng packed up his things and left nothing behind before walking out the door first.

The fat man took a step slower and finally chased him out. "Doctor," he said hurriedly, "are we going back to the dormitory?"

"No," Jiang Cheng stood in front of the cafeteria door, briefly identified the direction, pointed to one side and said, "Go this way, let's go to the equipment center."

After a pause, the fat man's face became very ugly, "But it's already dark now, let's go now."

"Fat man," Jiang Cheng turned his head and stared into Fatty's eyes very seriously, "Have you seen a student since we left the archives?"

The fat man thought about it carefully, his throat rolled uncontrollably, "No."

"Do you know why?"

Looking at Jiang Cheng's expression, Fatty felt an ominous premonition in his heart, and asked tremblingly: "Why?"

Jiang Cheng raised his head and looked at the night above his head.

The sky was as thick as a ball of ink that couldn't be smeared. There was no moon, and there were no stars.

"It won't get brighter again," Jiang Cheng said.
