14. You’d Better Die

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

Bao Ye checked the ugly slave’s memory and found that the slaves would return with new wounds every day, so he made five small bottles of wound healing potion in case of any emergency.

He sent one bottle of potion to Lao Liu as a gift during the lunch time, in order to express his gratitude and make friends with him. While Nian Gao and Wang Qiao were neglected by him–they wouldn’t value his potion at all.

Holding the potion bottle, Lao Liu uttered in surprise, “It heals the wounds?”

For the slaves, medicinal herbs were extremely rare goods, no matter what kind of herb it was. Because the slaveholders wouldn’t give them any medical care no matter they got hurt or ill. The only way to survive was to endure. If they were lucky enough, they would survive. If not, they could only die.

Although the Forest of Fallen had inexhaustible medicinal herbs, the slaves were depraved of their freedom, they could never get enough time to approach the forest. What’s more, the forest was filled with danger, which meant that the common slaves may never get the chance to come back alive. Even the top slaves did not own much herbs or potions

Medicine was extremely valuable, but Bao Ye gave it to him without hesitation.

“Wounds healer?” snorted Niao Gao, “Would anyone use the bottle for cleaning agent to hold the medicine? Don’t be cheated, Lao Liu! Your wound would only be worsened after applying his medicine. It will be too late for you to regret then!”

Lao Liu believed in Bao Ye’s medicine since he had smelt the scent of herbs. He cautiously put the bottle into his pocket. “Thank you, Bao Ye (Lord Bao)”

Bao Ye smiled, “Let’s have lunch first.”

“Your face ruins all my appetite. How can I even eat anuthing?” Nian Gao brought his bowl out of the room and had lunch outside.

“Bao Ye, don’t mind about his words. His words hurt but he is not a bad guy. But…what’s wrong with your face? It keeps bleeding the pus all the time today, yesterday it was much better. Are you OK?”

Bao Ye didn’t get a clue either, “I also don’t know why it bleeds.”

After arriving at the construction site, the black pustules on his face kept bleeding out the pus. Although the bleeding amount was not huge, it kept on bleeding and felt like being stung, which had never happened in the ugly slave’s memory.

Is it because he squeezed too hard on the black pustules last night and hurt it?

Thinking of the facial expression on that psychopath’s stunning face when watching him squeezing the pustules, Bao Ye couldn’t help curving his lip tips.

After lunch, the workers of the health department could have a nap in the office and returned to the hut after supper.

On the way back, a heavy atmosphere hung over the whole truck. Everyone on the truck was keeping silent with their heads down.

Bao Ye’s intuition told him, something went wrong.

Capturing his eyes casting over, Du Peng could no longer hold the anger and grave anymore. He rushed to Bao Ye and pushed him with great force, which almost threw Bao Ye out of the truck. “It’s all your fault, you son of a bitch!”

Bao Ye was all at sea with his words.

He stayed in the construction site for the whole day, how could he ever provoke Du Peng again?

If it hadn’t been that the ugly slave got Du Peng’s wife killed, Bao Ye wouldn’t let Du Peng act so unbridled before him.

“If you hadn’t broken Luo’s leg, he could have evaded the fallen container, and his belly wouldn’t have been cut by its sharp corner!”

Luo was the middle-aged man on the across bed. He was hated by the ugly slave because he had cursed the ugly slave as son of bitch. One day when Luo was carrying heavy goods, the ugly slave knocked Luo down on purpose. Several hundred jin of goods then fell on Luo’s leg and broke it. But the ugly slave showed no regret, he not only didn’t admit that he had knocked down Luo, but also cursed Luo that he “deserved it”.

Bao Ye, “…”

It seemed that he was a scapegoat other than a time traveler who aimed to change the fate.

Pia~ Deacon Zhu whipped on the truck floor, warning Du Peng not to make trouble on the truck.

Du Peng punched on the container with roaring anger, and reluctantly sat back on his spot.

The truck drove back to the hut.

“Are you alright?” Several slaves who were on good terms with Luo rushed to the hut immediately.

Lying on his bed, Luo ran out of steam, and could hardly open his eyes.

Others all reddened their eyes on seeing this. Without doctor and medicine, he could hardly survive.

Bao Ye looked at Luo from the crack between people. There was a two-cun (one cun equals to 3.33 cm) wound on the right side of the waist. The injury was not extremely severe, but what worsened the case was the black strings that roughly stitched on the wound. The wound hadn’t been wrapped nor applied medicine, and was bleeding as his belly rose and fell along with his breath.

It was excessive bleeding that drained Luo’s energy.

“Luo looks tired, we’d better not disturb him. Later when we got his supper, let’s make some porridge for him.” Du Peng glared at Bao Ye and continued, “These days we need to stay alert. Watch Luo in turn to avoid some villain murdering him.”

All the slaves turned to glare at Bao Ye at the same time.

Bao Ye sat back to his bed, wagging his legs and sneered, “There is no need to murder him. He can’t hold for half a month.”

“If he dies, you will be his sacrifice.” Throwing the harsh curse on Bao Ye, Du Peng led others and left.

Bao Ye sneered again, took over his supper and passed it to Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu hesitated a bit and asked, “You don’t eat it?”

Bao Ye grinned, “Are you worrying that I will starve to death?”

“You’d better die.” Jiang Yu grabbed his bowl and ate his supper up at the highest speed.

Looking at dying Luo, Bao Ye made a plan in his heart.

At midnight, Luo got a fever. Others hurried to bring cold water to cool him down.

Luo’s fever finally faded the next morning, but his face looked even paler, even fell into coma.

Catching a glimpse of Luo, Bao Ye hopped onto the truck heading for the health department.

Wang Qiao was playing with her kid. When she saw Bao Ye entering the office, she smiled awkwardly, “I…”

“Oh, Sis Wang, is your kid feeling any better?” Nian Gao who entered the office after looked at her kid curiously, “Sis Wang, what did you feed Xiaojian? How could he get better in one night?”

Wang Qiao peeped at Bao Ye and answered, “That…that is because…It’s all thanks to the ugly slave.”

“Him?” Nian Gao was shocked, “You mean this ugly slave?”

Wang Qiao nodded.

Last night, her baby was almost going to another world. Bao Ye’s words suddenly occurred in her head. Without any other choice, she took courage and did as Bao Ye told him.

“I did as what he told me, shouting his name for 49 times at the midnight. When I shouted out the 49th time, Xiaojian suddenly cried out, and told me that he was hungry.”

Nian Gao still doubted about it, “That simple?”

“Yes.” Stroking her kid’s head, Wang Qiao smiled tenderly. She fetched an apple from her cabinet and passed it to Bao Ye. “Thank you. I apologize for my bad attitude towards you in the past. My husband told me that you can turn to him when you encounter any problems.”

Bao Ye asked uncertainly, “Your husband is…?”

“Her husband is the boss of the East district. He is as famous as your big brother. Shit, why are you so lucky? The boss in the South district left you, then the boss in the East district immediately came to shelter you.” Nian Gao was not convinced, “Tell me the truth, did you put spell on her kid? Why shouting his name for a few times could cure him?”

Bao Ye gave him a cold glance, “If I were so powerful, do I still need to stay here?”

Wang Qiao stood by his side, “Nian Gao, I believe in the ugly slave.”

Nian Gao snorted, turned back to them and no longer said anything.
