16. Huge Pit

Everyone raised their head to stare at the sky.

“Did you guys see the colorful light flashing over the sky?”

“Yea, I saw it. It seems like a rainbow.”

Hearing the discussion, Bao Ye narrowed his eyes. If everything was the same before and after thirty years, the seven-color cloud meant the god’s landing on the Lower World.

But nobody knew which god landed here, and what the purpose was.

Staring at the sky for a while, Bao Ye continued to linger around the site driving his garbage truck.

The slaves on the site were either digging or carrying stones and soil, but there was nothing valuable in the big pit. It seemed that they were just digging the pit for fun.

Out of curiosity, Bao Ye approached some slaves carrying the stones. “Hey guys, are you thirsty? Want some water?”

He took out the cups and a pot of cold water from the truck. When they got enough water, Bao Ye asked, “I see that you are digging all the day. What’s there underneath?”

One of the four slaves peeped around and spoke after making sure that the deacon was not around, “We have dug for 3 years, the pit is over a hundred meters deep, ten kilometers long and two kilometers wide, but there is nothing in there, except for soil and stones.”

Bao Ye was astonished, “The pit is so big! But I saw it from above. It’s not that long.”

“The bigger pit is inside of the hole, of course you can’t see it from above.”

“You guys have worked here for three years, haven’t you heard about what are you digging for?”

“We only heard that there is something super precious under the earth, but we don’t know what it is.”

“Then do you know how long you will keep on digging here?”

They shook their heads, “The deacon didn’t tell us. Alas, the deacon is coming, let’s get back to work.”

Bao Ye turned around and saw a deacon in red T-shirt and pants glaring at them. Since Bao Ye belonged to the health department, the deacon just asked him to leave here and not to disturb those slaves working without punishing him.

Bao Ye drove the truck to the fringe of the pit. The slaves were as busy as ants. “Three years’ digging, the pit is over a hundred meters deep, ten kilometers long, and two kilometers wide…” Bao Ye stared at them and murmured.

He remembered that his foster father had ever told him about such a huge pit in the lower world, the thing buried there was said to be…

A string of excitement flashed in his eyes.

He started the truck immediately and drove around the huge pit, and then returned to the health department for lunch.

Lao Liu told him about the deacon’s notice as soon as he stepped in, “The deacon said an honored guest will come to the construction site recently. We must keep everywhere clean enough. If the honored guest doesn’t feel slightly uncomfortable, we will receive severe punishment.”

The “honored guest” reminded Bao Ye of the seven-color cloud he saw before, “What kind of honored guest?”

The four of them cleaned the whole building together after lunch, but the honored guest would only come four days later.
