40. The Game of God (1)

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

 “Bang—“

The slaves were shocked by the sudden thunder and looked up to the clear sunny sky.

“Bang—“

Another thunder burst out as if the sky was about to be ripped apart.

Nian Gao was frightened to kneel.

Looked at Nian Gao on all his fours and the sky, Lao Liu suddenly remembered something. His lips shivered and couldn’t help to kneel on the ground, murmuring, “The game of god, it’s the game of god, it begins again.”

On hearing his words, the top slaves walked by frightened to drop the grains they carried on the ground.

Other people quickly realized what would come after the thunder. They dropped their grains on the hand and kneeled, made kowtow to beg for their life, “The mercy gods, please spare us.”

They kowtowed with great sincerity and force, the sound of knocking head on the ground filled the air. For a few moment, their forehead began to bleed.

Bao Ye frowned at the clear sky. He had heard the game of god from his foster father. Whenever he talked about it, he seemed to be haunted by the fear in the past. Bao Ye didn’t experience the game of god, so he couldn’t understand his father’s feeling.

In the memory of the ugly slave, he saw the cruelty of the gods again.

The god in the Top World always started several catastrophes in the Lower world, to set the slaves in torture, panic and death, and made fun from their struggling along the fringe of humanity.

The game of god was a meat grinder. The slave owners lived in the Lower World never stopped the gods from killing their slaves, they stood by the gods, appreciated and even betted on their life and death.

Dongling Ce lifted his lips, turned to Bao Ye and Jin Lingrui, “Don’t you two brothers kneel?”

Jin Lingrui took out one cigarette and said plainly, “Can I stop the gods from playing games by kneeling down?”

Bao Ye curled his lips and said, “A way out is better than a knee on the ground.”

On hearing his words, Jin Lingrui put away his unlighted cigarette back in his pocket, called his subordinates who were still on their knees to carry the grains to their truck.

Looking at Jin Lingrui, who was helping his subordinates carrying grains, Dongling Ce asked Bao Ye, “That night, why did you want to kill him?”

Bao Ye rolled his eyes at him, “I was possessed.”

Dongling Ce did not believe a vowel of his words, but he didn’t intend to probe into that. He turned to him and asked, “Let’s guess which game the gods want to play.”

Bao Ye snorted, “You don’t need to guess.”

Dongling Ce lifted his eyebrows, “What do you mean?”

“In my eyes, you are one of them, who are fond of playing pranks on people.”

The only difference was that Dongling Ce hadn’t kill any people yet.

Dongling Ce curved his lips and replied, “Yes, we are in a team, please copy the Diamond Sutra with your rear end.”

Bao Ye’s lips twitched, “What the hell, who write with ass?”

He quickly found an excuse, “I can’t write.”

“Then copy.”

Bao Ye made a smile, “I can’t see the words with my eyes, how can I copy?”

“Read with the eye on your ass.”

Bao Ye felt that several black lines were rolling down his forehead, he retorted, “The asshole needs to hold the pen, I can’t read with it.”

Dongling Ce chortled for a second, “This man is so funny.”

Hearing the laughter, the people surrounded cast their eye sight towards them.

Jin Lingrui stared at Bao Ye with contemplate.

Bao Ye turned around and headed to the sanity department since he didn’t want to talked with this psycho anymore.

Not for a while, Niao Gao and Lao Liu returned the sanity department with the support from each other. Both of them looked pale.

Bao Ye lifted his eyebrow tips and said, “The game doesn’t start yet, it’s too far for you to be pale.”

Nian Gao shouted at him with fear, “Don’t you know? Once the game of god starts, millions of people will die! Even the top slaves were not exempted! Doomed, we are doomed.”

“My parents, two elder brothers and one younger brother, all died in the game of god.” Lao Liu spoke with a callous voice.

Bao Ye, “…”

On that moment, Wang Qiao was back. She sprawled on the chairs as if her strength was evaporated. “What disaster will they put on us this time?”

Dead silence covered the sanity department.

“It’s thunder, gust, and plague.” Bao Ye answered suddenly.

Lao Liu and others were stunned by his words and stared at him.

“The plague is the top killer, since we don’t have medicine and the virus is contagious. A great number of people will die from it.” Bao Ye frowned, “You need to prepare in advance.”

He presumed the type of upcoming games according to what his foster father had told him before.

Niao Gao snorted, “Speak as an expert.”

Bao Ye looked at him and said nothing, because he was also not sure.

The atmosphere on the site was quiet low, even the condescending deacons wore on a dark countenance. They were not exempted from the game.

All slaves remained silence when they returned the hut. They didn’t say a word, just pick up their own supper, and ate silently on their own bed.

Bao Ye handed his meal to Jiang Yu as usual.

But Jiang Yu didn’t reach for the meal this time. He even placed his bowl aside of his bed.

“Lose your appetite?” Bao Ye asked.

“I’m going to die. How could I have appetite?” Jiang Yu replied in depression.

Bao Ye felt his thought laughable, “The game doesn’t start yet, how could you know you will definitely die?”

“I am so aged, how could I evade the god’s game?” Sighed Jiang Yu, “I have lived long enough, and is tired enough.”

Lost the vigor, he looked even older.
