42. It’s on Purpose

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

On the dinner time, the lightnings and thunders shew up again.

Nian Gao was frightened and chocked with a mouthful of soup. He coughed, “It…it is on purpose.”

The gods sent out the lightnings and thunders right during the dinner time. They intended to interrupt their meal and upset them.

Hearing the booming-like sound outside, Lao Liu and Wang Qiao lost their appetite immediately.

“Don’t worry, the owner set cover over the site, we are shielded from the lightnings.” Bao Ye comforted them.

“We are shielded, but they will hit on other places, and even hit our families.”

Looked at the clear sky scrawling with lightnings, Bao Ye began to worry about his foster father. Was he safe in the dorm of top slaves in Southern District? Although his foster father lived out the disaster until over 20 years later, Bao Ye still worried about his coming here would bring changes to the past.

When the deacons came to bring them back to the hut after the supper, the lightnings and thunders were still on. But they had to leave with the deacon.

In the past, the deacons would let the slaves to take a bath in the river when their truck passing by the river, but under such situation, the whole truck group didn’t dare to stop, let alone taking bath in the river.

“Ah—” Someone was screaming.

The slaves standing in the truck quickly looked outside the window: A top slave fell on the ground, along his path, the lightnings pounded out a string of holes.

Bearing the severe pain, the top slave picked himself up and ran again. Shortly after his rising up, a lightning as big as a fist hit the ground he laid before, and the lightnings followed him closely after that.

The slaves in the truck cried out and got nervous for him.

“The lightning won’t stop until he was hit. This top slave is dead.”

Bao Ye frowned on hearing these words.

“Help! Help!” The top slaves cried as he ran towards the trucks.

Most of the slaves on the truck were all scared and shouted, “Don’t come here, stay away, you will kill us!”

If the top slave came to them, they would be hit by the lightnings.

While a small number of slaves were silent, they were struggling about whether to save him or not.

Bao Ye took a glimpse over them. Nobody should be blamed as selfish, because they would die if they save the people.

The slaves’ standing by made the top slave desperate. Reluctant to die like that, his mind began to be twisted to evil: He should die with more people.

Bao Ye was thinking about whether to save him or not, but when he looked at the top slave again, he already began to run towards them with his highest speed.

A slave screamed, “He want to die with all of us!”

On the last vowel of his words, a gunshot was fired. The top slave staggered and fell down.

Bao Ye was shocked to see the driver of the truck after theirs pointing the top slave with his gun.

Before the slaves could breathe out, a huge lightning dashed and stroke on the top slave.

Created a trembling sound.

The dazzling light, shooting stones, the blast waves and the deafening sound made Bao Ye and other slaves close their eyes and cover their ears quickly.

The wave lasted for a few seconds.

When they opened their eyes, the place where the top slave fell became a ten-meter wide pit. They all too shocked to say a word.

Bao Ye’s eyes reddened when he saw the cruelty of the gods again.

The truck continued to head for the hut. When they almost reached the hut, a slave began to murmur, “It’s fortunate…”

It’s fortunate that they didn’t let the top slave join them, otherwise, they would all be blown up.
