Chapter 7 - First Dragon?

I could feel that those creatures are using up all the mana that the World Tree has. I connected with the Tree and was again transported next to the giant teardrop. It's size did not change but it's color became darker. Before when I came here it's color was clear blue but now it became a lot darker. Inside of the teardrop was the same as it was before. Many books were there just like before.

I disconnected with the World Tree after that. I couldn't say anything as I really don't know if this is good for the Tree. So I decided just to don't interfere with what the World Tree does. It wouldn't harm itself, would it?

After few more days more cocoons appeared and now the number of cocoons reached few thousands. Also the area around the World Tree became more mana concentrated. In normal days it also was more concentrated but not in this degree. Now mana around the World Tree was more than ten times more concentrated. Many animals migrated towards the World Tree. Salamanders too migrated into new cave.

After researching it for three more months I got the basic understanding of the situation. The World Tree was getting rid of large amounts of mana that was was stored inside it. Normally it would releases a limited amount of mana and stored the extra mana inside the teardrop. But now it's trying to use up all of its mana. So it birthed those creatures with immense amounts of mana. It also released more mana than normal.

More likely this is all because the World Tree is evolving. Before it was too weak to purify the radiation itself that's why i fell asleep to help the tree with purifying the radiation. Later it became independent and that's why I awakened and could leave the tree. Now it's evolving into something new. Most likely after this process World Tree would gain it's own awareness.

This is great news for me as the mana released by the World Tree would help the salamander evolution. Not only that it would also help other creatures evolve.

After 100 years?

Yes you read it correctly hundred years have passed from the time that World Tree started to release its mana and create those creatures. World Tree still releases it's mana and the area around it became more concentrated. Cocoon creatures were still in their incubation stage and most likely they would awaken only after hundred more years.

Even thought there was no major change in this world, there were still interesting changes. First change being evolution of salamanders into wyverns.

At first I thought it wouldn't take long for salamanders to evolve into dragons. But as they got stronger lesser they reproduced. It all started in the third generation of the new improved salamanders. There were lesser offsprings as the time went on. From being able to lay about 100 eggs they turned into laying only few eggs. But thankfully each new generation would have longer lifespans balancing it with lack of offsprings.

After eighty years one anomaly was born on fifth upgraded salamander generation. First difference between it and salamanders was that even as a toddler it was as huge as grown a.d.u.l.t salamander. Second difference was in it's legs. It had only two legs, front legs were fused with it's wings. It was a Wyvern an inferior version of a dragon. Upgraded salamanders still had four legs just like ancient dragons. I really don't think Wyverns could evolve into dragons so I thought this was a failure.

This anomaly became strongest in the community and became the absolute ruler of their cave and surrounding areas. Wyvern not happy with it's habitat tried to get closer to the World Tree. So it began moving towards it and conquering many areas on his way. Many salamanders followed him and many other salamanders didn't. That's how the first group was separated.

Most of the salamanders that left with Wyvern ended up dying from all the battles, but before that some of them were replaced by new Wyverns born from the original Wyvern. After twenty more years that group fully became a wyvern group. Now it was full of Wyverns but they were lacking in numbers. That group only had eleven members. Even with eleven members they occupied the nearest areas to the World Tree.

Next to them was also one more group, a group comprised of primates. They were gigantic, any of them were three or four times bigger than Gigantopithecus which was biggest primate in my other world. They were bigger than Wyverns but weaker overall. But they had a number advantage against Wyverns. Even thought they were gigantic they still reproduced like any other primate. With their number advantage stronger version of Gigantopithecus could stand right next to the Wyverns dominating area around the World Tree.

The salamander group that didn't follow the Wyvern still lived in their old cave and kept evolving to something far better than Wyverns. This was my last hope for dragons. If the salamanders failed then most likely it is impossible for salamanders to evolve into dragons. Most they could is evolve into Wyverns.

That was not the only changes. Many more mammals became bigger in sizes. Smallest mammal was bigger than normal human a.d.u.l.t before my deep sleep.

Today it was a normal day but something made this day far more special and that is that it was born. The first creature that I could actually call strong.

Inside the old salamander cave one big egg was breaking down and a scary creature was finally born.
