As a member of library committee, I work at the reception desk in the library after school to check out and return books.

After classes had ended and the lending and returning of books had come to a halt, I was putting books back on the shelves in the quiet library.

While I was working silently, the door in the library opened with a rattling sound. I looked at the female student who came through the door.

Semi-long black hair and thick-framed glasses. A slender body and modest breasts. I even know the location of the hidden mole on the seemingly unassuming female student. I also know that she is quite beautiful in her plain face.

「Please return this book.」

The female friend who offered me a book was Takai Yumi, an acquaintance of mine.

I silently accept the book and return it to her.

「Hey…」

Takai approached me to ask me something.

「What?」

「As expected.」

Takai looked thoughtful for a moment, but soon returned to her normal expressionless face, broke off the conversation with me, and went to the shelves to look for books.

I also wanted to talk with Takai but first I had to finish my work as a member of the library committee. If I left her there and went home, I would be in trouble with the library committees tommorow.

Quiet time flows in the library where Takai and I are the only people in the room. She had found a book she was interested in and was sitting down to read.

I continued working silently and finally put all the returned books back on the shelves.

「Takai—」

The look Takai gave me in the morning and lunchtime, and just as I was about to call out to her, because I really wanted to ask her, I was interrupted by a person who opened the door with a bang and jumped.

「Tōyama’s here!」

A familiar figure noisily barges into the library without reading the air. Dressed out of her school uniform, with her breasts open to reveal cleavage, her hair dyed brightly and loosely permed, she is the only gyaru I know.

「Uehara-san, please be quiet at the library.」

「Ah, sorry… but there’s no one here. That’s okay, isn’t it? Even if you have to speak a little.」

Uehara-san did not seem to see Takai’s figure. I pointed to the table where she was sitting.

「Takai-san was there? Sorry for making so much noise. But I didn’t sense your presence at all.」

Takai is certainly overshadowed in the classroom by her atmosphere and appearance. Perhaps, it was because she was concentrating on reading at the moment, but her presence was even more tenuous than usual.

Takai took one silent glance at Uehara-san and immediately returned her attention to tbe book she had just been reading.

「Ah, Takai-san, did I offend you…? Sorry if I bothered you. I didn’t mean it in a bad way…」

Takai is usually like that. Uehara-san, who did not know this, seemed to think that Takai was angry because she was silent.

It was probably just the way their group usually goes along, but Uehara-san was unable to read the atmosphere of the situation. However, she is not a bad girl because she can reflect and apologize properly.

「I don’t really mind.」

Takai’s reply was curt.

「Thank goodness… You read a lot in the classroom, don’t you, Takai-san? What kind of books do you read? Want to tell me about it?」

Uehara-san was interested in reading and asked her for her recommendations. But the books Takai is reading would probably be difficult for Uehara-san. Takai often reads pure literature. I also have read the books she recommended, but I am not good at works with high artistic value.

「Uehara-san, it is strictly forbidden to talk in the library. Please don’t interrupt other people’s reading.」

She said something plausible, as if she was member of the library committee, and gave Takai a helping hand. I could see a future where Uehara-san talk to Takai one-sidedly if things continue as they were.

「I’m sorry for interrupting your reading. Let me hear you talk about it in class next time.」

Uehara-san, who had ended the conversation unilaterally without hearing Takai’s reply, rushed up to me at the library counter.

「Hey, if I’m going to talk about books with Tōyama, a member of the library committee, it can’t be a private conversation, can it? Tell me about the recommendations we talked about this morning.」

Certainly, if you’re talking about books with a book committee member who also works as a librarian, it’s not a private conversation. Uehara-san seems to have surprisingly quick wits.

「Well, yes, but can you have Kurashima and the others stay out of this? I don’t want you to get involved again and make a scene.」

It is troublesome when I talk with Uehara-san, he looks at me with jealousy.

「Kazuhito left first because he had something to do.」

「Then, I’m glad」

「I’m sorry I got involved with Tōyama this morning. He keeps trying to act like my boyfriend and it’s annoying even for me.」

Uehara-san began to complain about Kurashima.

「It’s not your fault, and you don’t have to apologize. Kurashima seems to like Uehara-san, so maybe he’s jealous. Or is it possessiveness?」

「Ah, I can’t do it with that guy, no matter how good he looks. He’s bossy and a womanizer.」

If that’s the case, I think it would be better if they did not get along together, but I guess that’s not possible if they form a caste. It is a troublesome affair.

「In that regard, Tōyama is calm and relaxed, and gentle, so I think you’re good for me…」

For some reason, Uehara-san stares at me over the counter with an upward glance. There seems to be a tinge of red in her expression, but it may be the light of the sunset coming through the window.

「I want to borrow this book please.」

After staring at each other for a few seconds, we came to our senses when Takai rushed to the counter and got up from her chair with a thud.

Takai’s word were not her usual emotionless words, but her words seemed to be filled with anger.
