Chapter 3 - The Secret’s Out

It was dark, pitch black and then I woke up. I repeatedly blinked my eyes as I got up from the ice cold floor and looked around me.

"Did I..black out?"

I was confused until I saw the frozen body that stood like a statue, inches in front of a door. I had a flashback and remembered that moment, the moment I couldn't control myself and I executed him. It was Mr. Chateau, his skin had turned purple and began to peel as the frost on his body started to slowly melt away. I felt guilty but I somehow thought it wasn't my fault, it couldn't have been, I had been taken over by my other half and just now, she started to speak to me. In my head I heard a voice that wasn't mine, a second voice, it was the voice of the little girl whom I shared a soul with. She thought of all this as a game so that she could have fun. I no longer tried to fight against her because at this point, I realized it was hopeless. We were merged into one for the rest of my life, but I began to question her and my newfound abilities. How was I able to stop that bullet, how did I freeze him and why did my hand just phase through his body, but she had given me an answer I didn't quite understand. A whisper,

"You're a hybrid like the last maid father had. Sooner or later, special forces with come and find us and what mess we've created. Only then can we have even more fun."

A chill ran up my spine and I could barely talk.

"S-Special f-forces?"

I heard the sound of heels walking up to the door that leads out of the library, shortly before it was opened and saw none other than Mrs. Chateau.

"Aaaaaahhh!!"

She had let out a nigh-deafening shriek, one so loud I had to cover my ears halfway through.

Her eyes quickly darted in my direction when she looked down at my hands, coated in Permafrost.

"You. You did this, y-you're a hybrid."

I tried to calm her down

"Mrs. Chat-."

She cut me off mid-sentence.

"S-stay away from me, you monstrosity. I knew it was something about you, but I'll get this all settled right now. I'm going to make sure that regret every decision you ever made."

Her sapphire coated necklace that she wore made a beeping sound as she pressed in on the gem. All of the lights in the mansion had turned on and seemed like they shone almost as bright as the sun itself.

WROO! WROOOO!

A loud alarm had begun to sound seconds before twenty or thirty men came ravaging through the door and the single window, filling the library. Each of them had a riot shield and a weird looking blaster weapon. One of the men shouted,

"Get down on the ground or we will have no choice but to apply force!"

I looked around and thought about my options, I was about to be imprisoned and possibly killed for something I don't think I had control over. Even the slightest move would've caused them to shoot, so I started to speak instead.

"Hold on don't shoot! I want to talk about this."

They weren't listening and I could obviously tell since they got louder this time.

"Ma'am you have three seconds to get down or we WILL open fire." I looked at them and they looked at me, this was it. This is how I was going to die, I didn't want to believe it was so, but a tear shed my eye. I heard them shout once more.

" One!"

I gulped down my saliva as a sweat that formed on my forehead began to freeze before falling to the floor.

" Two!"

I close my eyes and spoke with my other half briefly.

" I don't want to die here."

She then spoke back,

" then let me play."

So I cleared my mind and exhaled.

"Three!"

The men had opened fire and hundreds of foreign projectiles, similar to bullets, impaled my body. I was coved in what looked like bullet holes from the forehead down to my toes and leaking blood so cold it makes the ground beneath me begin to freeze. My body healed again like it did when Mr. C had shot me and they looked worried. They had tried to fire their weapons again but didn't realize they were out of ammunition, but they were in for a cold awakening. I opened my eyes, blinked and the entire Mansion had been encased in ice as for the multiple bodies inside as well. Everything within an eight thousand square foot radius had essentially become an ice box. The area was frigid, fragile and so I took a step causing the floor beneath me to crack. Such a crack spread throughout the entire mansion, causing it all to shatter and collapse upon itself with me inside. It was black again, I had blacked out, but this time I had flashbacks of my life.

[Years ago]

When I was a child, I was poor. My family could barely afford food and my father had to get two jobs which he didn't earn that much of a good pay; He made just enough so that we could get by. Where I lived, school costs money and as I said before we weren't exactly financially stable so I and my brother didn't attend school but instead learned from our parents. We lived in a society where the top of the hierarchy, the wealthy, would walk over the poor and not even spare a cent to help them eat. Later on, in life, my brother was struck with an illness that caused him to die at the age of fourteen. Eventually, as I became of age, about sixteen years, I started getting jobs and began working as a maid since it was a simple and easy task for me. I was lucky enough to get hired by a wealthy family who'd pay wasn't all too giving, but it was enough to support my mother and father. Two days after getting hired my father died of the same illness my brother had and my mom died of old age which left me alone, without a family. The chateaus agreed to let me be their live-in maid so long as I abide by their rules, so I humbly accepted the offer.

[The Present]

It was bright, I could see the luminescent moonlight pour in through the cracks of the rubble that had covered my entire body. I struggled to push the glass, stone, and ice off of me and proceeded to stand up. I checked my body and I had not a single scratch on me, although my dress was still torn and I recall the events that actually transpired before my "blackout" this time. My vision was a bit blurry as I staggered a bit, but eventually, it cleared up. The situation had escalated further than what it started as and I was knee deep in it. I was temporarily blinded by the great light that flashed over me, it was a helicopter with a spotlight. I'd assumed that those men called for backup before arriving and I was scared. I didn't want to hurt anyone else, but my other half didn't agree so much, so I looked up. Upon eye contact, the pilot of the vehicle was induced with fear and the spotlight had turned off, I sighed with relief but now was my chance to get away and process what was going on in my life.

"Hey, psst.."

I heard a whisper from over behind a nearby building and looked, it was a girl who looked about my age and she whispered again a little louder.

"If you want help come with me."

Without question, I quickly sprinted over and hid behind the building with her. We both had peeked around the corner to see the helicopter, but it had disappeared and I was relieved once again. I turned to thank this mysterious girl and asked her of her name and why she helped me. She finally stopped whispering to answer my question.

"No problem, I don't mind helping another one of us if it can save lives. By the way, my name is Olivia."

I thanked her once more and started to talk in a normal tone as well.

"Thanks, my name is Amelia and what do you mean 'us'?"

She sighed,

" I saw you over there, through the window. I saw your icy Powers and I was nearly frozen, you're a hybrid."

I looked confused. I'd heard that term before but still didn't understand what it meant, I wanted to know what exactly a hybrid was. This led me to ask her what a hybrid is and like asked, she responded.

"It'll be better if I show you."

Olivia held her hand in front of her clearly, so that both of could see and to my surprise what I saw was astonishing. Each one of the tips of her five fingers had burst into flames, but she wasn't burning and it seemed to not hurt her. It didn't even look like regular fire as each flame radiated a different color: Red, Blue, Green, Purple, and Black. Olivia closed her hand and balled up her fist before looking at me.

"I'm a hybrid just like you. My flames, they each give me different powers and allow me to do different things, much like how I saw you freeze that entire area and caused those lights to go out. I know you must have different abilities too. "

I'm usually a quick learner but I was still struggling to understand and grab ahold of what was actually going on, was I in a dream or was this real life.

"Amelia, you still look confused. Come, follow me."

After about five minutes of walking down a few streets, we'd arrived at an iron door embedded into a brick wall. She had knocked to a specific rhythm and the door opened, almost like someone opened for her. She turned to me,

" You're welcome to come in."

Upon entering the threshold I saw two others, boys who looked a year or two older than me so I greeted them.

"H-Hi."

I was a bit nervous, but one of the boys happily welcomed me and that made me feel a lot better. He was a super jolly guy with great charisma that made it difficult to be nervous.

" Nice to meet ya, I'm Noah and the stubborn guy over there is my pal. His name is Aaron, but he prefers if you call him AA (Double-A)."

I looked at Aaron and he shot me a mean mug for about a second and turned back to the book he'd been reading before I came in. I had butterflies in my stomach, he seemed scary to approach nonetheless speak to.
