Peerless Battle Spirit

Chapter 20: The Trial Begins

Tie San had been practicing the Thundercrash Saber Art for over ten years and had reached the stage of One with the Saber, thus he was extremely familiar with Saber Intent.

This Saber Intent could only be mastered when one had reached the Greater Success Stage of One with the Saber.

However, Qin Nan had only started grasping the basics of One with the Saber. How had he reached this stage in just a day?

How terrifying was Qin Nan’s comprehension?

Tie San took a deep breath while gazing at Qin Nan. This time, he did not call his name.

The Saber Intent was able to form a barrier around his body, blocking the rain while filtering the sound of thunder, thus it would not disturb Qin Nan’s learning process.

“If Young Master Qin Nan were to have a higher-ranked Martial Spirit, how unimaginable would his achievements in the future be?”

Tie San mumbled to himself. He could not help but let out a sigh after recalling the fact that Qin Nan only possessed a first-grade Huang ranked Martial Spirit.

Regardless of how outstanding his Martial Skill Talent was, his potential was limited due to the rank of his Martial Spirit.

...Time passed gradually, as the rain continued to pour down with the roars of thunder...

However, in Qin Nan’s residence, there was no sound of rain nor thunder, but rather a continuous buzz.

The sound was emitted from Qin Nan’s Saber Intent, as if a saber was vibrating vigorously at a tremendous speed.

The Saber Intent encapsulating Qin Nan’s figure continued to grow stronger.

Seven hours later, following a loud explosion, the Saber Intent revolving around his figure dissipated into the surroundings as Qin Nan awoke from the process.

“It’s almost daytime…”

Qin Nan instinctively raised his head and discovered the sky to be turning brighter, which startled him. He just realized that he had spent so much time learning from the notebook.

Following this, a smile filled with satisfaction appeared on his face. The benefits he had acquired in seven hours’ time were tremendous.

“Congratulations Young Master for learning Saber Intent and achieving the Greater Success Stage of One with the Saber.” Tie San walked out from the residence with a smile on his face.

“It’s all thanks to Uncle San’s experiences.” Qin Nan immediately expressed his gratitude. If it weren’t for the notes given, he would not have been able to achieve this in such a short time.

Tie San shook his head, “Young Master, you are being too humble. Your talent plays an important role in it.”

Qin Nan asked in a curious tone, “By the way, Uncle San, what is this One with the Saber thing that you mentioned?”

Tie San straightened his face, “Young Master, before I give you the answer, I shall ask you a question first. Do you have the feeling that the strength of the Saber Art you practiced has completely surpassed the limit of the Thundercrash Saber Art?”

Qin Nan was startled, before he nodded his head thoughtfully.

The Thundercrash Saber Art was only a middle-class Martial Skill among the collection stored in Qin Clan.

However, with the Saber Intent of One with the Saber, Qin Nan could easily outmatch a high-class Martial Skill, or even an ultimate-class Martial Skill.

Tie San continued, “As everyone knows, a Martial Skill is classified into either low-class, middle-class, high-class, or ultimate-class. A higher ranked Martial Skill would have a greater power. However, that’s not the only truth, although a higher ranked skill is most likely more powerful.

“However, there exists another standard for the Martial Skills—for example, One with the Saber. It is no longer the rank of the Martial Skill, but the mastery of an art.”

“Mastery?” Qin Nan somehow understood it.

Tie San nodded his head, “That’s right. A stronger mastery would result in a greater power. For example, One with the Saber, and also One with the Sword, etc. They are all regarded as ‘One with the Weapon’. This is the first level, and it is split into the Foundation Stage, the Minor Success Stage, the Greater Success Stage, and the Perfection Stage. After One with the Weapon, there is another level known as the Arcane Realm, and there will be more after that, but that’s beyond my understanding.”

“One with the Weapon, and then the Arcane Realm… I see, so that’s how it is.”

Qin Nan finally came to a realization.

In other words, the Martial Skill was just a guide for beginners to grasp the art of a specific weapon. The mastery of certain arts was more important, and would grant the cultivator a greater strength.

For example, the Thundercrash Saber Art that Qin Nan practiced could no longer be regarded as a middle-class Martial Skill, but rather that it was at the Greater Success Stage of One with the Saber.

“Young Master, since it’ll be daytime soon, we should depart at once to join the people of the Qin Clan before leaving for the Fang Clan, shall we?” Tie San reminded Qin Nan, after seeing the blank expression in his eyes.

Qin Nan collected his thoughts and realized that the Qin Clan was relatively noisy despite the fact that it was still early. He instantly nodded his head.

Following this, Tie San and Qin Nan headed straight to the clan’s training ground.

The place was extremely lively due to the crowd, with Qin Tieba leading ahead, followed by the second and third elders, and the clan’s deacons.

On the other side stood Qin Tian, but there was no one standing behind him, resulting in a great contrast.

As for the disciples, they were following Qin Changkong’s lead.

Qin Changkong had recovered from his previous injury. He wore a prideful look on his face. The aura emitted from his body was slightly stronger than the third-layer Body Tempering Realm, a hint that he had consumed quite a significant amount of cultivation resources over the past few days.

As Tie San and Qin Nan arrived at the dojo, the lively atmosphere suddenly became silent, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured onto a flame.

The crowd immediately glanced toward them.

The first ones to do so were Qin Tieba and Qin Changkong. Their eyes were filled with great hatred and murderous intent, and a hint of excitement. It was obvious that this father and son were planning to get their revenge during the selection of the Mystic Spirit Sect.

The deacons and elders of the clan were staring at them too.

A while before, after Qin Nan had defeated Qin Changkong in the Conference Hall, he had even taught the elders and deacons a lesson. However, judging from the current situation, it appeared that no one had taken Qin Nan’s words seriously.

It was obvious from their conceited looks toward Qin Nan that they had never placed Qin Nan in their eyes.

Hadn’t Qin Nan warned them to not regret their choices? What a joke; they would regret it if they chose to follow you; Qin Nan and Qin Tian.

Unlike them, the disciples behaved relatively normally, as Qin Nan’s cultivation was indeed overwhelming in their eyes, thus they did not have the confidence to go against him.

However, there were some disciples that stared at him disdainfully, or even uttered mocking comments among themselves, especially the genius disciple of the clan—Qin Hai.

Qin Nan showed no expression on his face. The moment he arrived at the training ground, he had already analyzed the situation. Even though he was slightly disappointed, he soon calmed his thoughts and ignored the presence of the elders, deacons, and disciples.

As Qin Nan and Tie San arrived behind Qin Tian, the silent training ground finally returned to normal.

At that instant, Qin Tian began to speak in a firm tone, “Very well, I believe everyone is clear on the rules? I shall not waste any time explaining them. Since everyone has arrived, we will be departing for the Fang Clan now.”

After saying this, Qin Tian swung his hand and left with Qin Nan and Tie San.

Qin Tieba and his crew followed behind whilst leading the rest of the clan.

A brief while later, a majestic red wooden entrance appeared in their sights. Above the entrance hung a golden banner with the two huge words ‘Fang Clan’ written on it, creating a magnificent sight.

Five rows of servants wearing red robes lined up outside the entrance, as if a celebration was taking place.

After seeing the people of the Qin Clan, one of them who possessed a cultivation of the third-layer Body Tempering Realm immediately yelled out, “The Qin Clan has arrived.”

Following this, a ferocious aura burst out from the Fang Clan. The crowd could only see a bulky man wearing a white robe made of tiger skin approaching them with a smile on his face.

The person was none other than the Patriarch of the Fang Clan; Fang Li.

As soon as Fang Li appeared, the deacons and disciples of the Qin Clan could feel their hearts tightening.

“People of the Qin Clan, welcome. First of all, I have to say that my place is a little too small. I apologize in advance if you are not happy with our service.” Fang Li said smilingly without glancing at Qin Tieba and the others. He only looked at Qin Tian throughout the process.

Qin Tieba and his crew were astonished. Everyone knew that he would soon be the leader of the Qin Clan, even though Qin Tian was currently still the Patriarch.

Fang Li’s actions served as a powerful slap to his face.

However, since they were currently at the Fang Clan and the selection of the Mystic Spirit Sect was about to take place soon, Qin Tieba had no choice but withhold his anger.

“The Fang Clan is definitely luxurious enough. Let’s not waste anymore time here, as the two elders are waiting for us…”

Fang Li did not say anything else as he led the crowd into the clan. However, Fang Li did take the initiative to chat with Qin Tian and even asked Qin Nan questions without glancing at Qin Tieba and the rest.

Fang Li brought the people of the Qin Clan to the training ground.

A platform made of white jade was established on the training ground, resulting in a luxurious appearance. Below the platform was a ring, which was surrounded by rows of seats.

Qin Nan followed behind Qin Tian calmly, before he scanned the area where the disciples of the Fang Clan stood.

His gaze immediately landed onto a young man’s figure who was wearing a white robe. His physique was quite similar to Fang Li’s, but the aura emitted from his body was only at the third-layer Body Tempering Realm.

While Qin Nan was observing the young man, he too was inspecting the crowd of the Qin Clan, except that his eyes were filled with great disdain.

“I believe this guy must be Fang Rulong. With a sixth-grade Huang ranked Martial Spirit, there is no way his cultivation is only at the third-layer Body Tempering Realm. It’s highly possible that he is hiding his real strength.” Qin Nan came up with this speculation in his mind before he switched his focus onto the platform.

Qin Nan was eager to see how formidable the representatives of the Mystic Spirit Sect were.

However, the moment Qin Nan looked toward the platform, a gaze was fired from it too. The two gazes clashed directly with one another.

Qin Nan’s expression changed tremendously.
