Pirates For The Mainland

Chapter 16 - Key - 16

A few days of waiting slowly crawled by. The damage to the Red Jewel had been a bit overwhelming for the team dispatched by Redstone and getting the ship ready for battle was taking time. Nog and her mates had spent most of their time being lazy and drunk, watching the workers do their best. Several times they had to remind Neko not to interfere and relax.

"They're going to f.u.c.k up our ship," Neko said, tossing an empty whiskey bottle into a nearby bin.

The three pirates sat at a shop nearby that faced the docks. A simple place where most fisherman came to get a sandwich or beer in-between trips. There wasn't a dining hall, just a few tables in front of the stall near the wooden walkway.

"Just shut up already," Nog replied. "Enjoy the fact that they're working on it and not you."

"I should go up there and supervise," Neko said.

"I'll cut you," Nog warned.

"You know you can't, Cap," Dart reminded her.

Interrupting their drunken spat, an unwelcome uniform walked up to the Red Jewel. Even though the pirates had been promised protection by Redstone, a navy man stood before their ship.

"Oh no, there's a navy dog," Dart said, pointing with her empty wine glass. "Isn't Redstone supposed to make them f.u.c.k off?"

"I can make him f.u.c.k off," Neko offered, motioning to stand up.

"No, I'll do it," Nog said, standing up and readjusting her attire. "I can't have one of you threatening his life and getting us in trouble."

"And you won't?" Dart questioned.

The captain didn't answer her mate and promptly walked away. Nog was always the best at holding her own when they've been drinking, but it had its limits. As she closed the distance between them, Nog realized the man was the nosy navy officer they met at Gray View Docks.

Flennel kept his distance from the ship, watching a good distance away on the dock. Nog's crew were mixed in with the Redstone workers, making it difficult to tell who was who to the navy man.

"Can I help you with something?" Nog asked, standing next to him.

"Don't mind me," Flennel said, not taking his gaze off the ship. "I'm just a curious observer. It wasn't very nice of Redstone's men to turn me away like that, but they aren't very good at holding a secure perimeter. You should let your employer know that when you can."

"Your presence isn't welcome here, blue boy," Nog warned. "Please, leave."

Flennel looked at the captain with a smile. His clean-cut nature and perfect attitude made Nog angry, but something else caught her attention. When their eyes met, many colors in Flennel's pupils swirled and moved about like oil on water. She wasn't sure how she had missed such a strange thing in their previous encounters.

"I don't know what you plan on doing with this little battleship," Flennel said, turning to leave, "but if it has anything to do with the mainland, go right ahead. You'll either die and no longer be a bother to the Navy, or you'll succeed and give mankind a taste of victory. Even if the taste is brief."

Flennel walked away from the dock with his hands in his pockets. The last part of his words filled Nog with hate.

"It won't be brief you piece of shit," she said to Flennel, fully aware he was too far away. "I'm going to take the entire mainland back. Permanently."
