1884 Useless Meeting

The small cube rotated so fast, it appeared like a sphere.

The death energy ran rampant. The three giants literally felt like their life is being sucked out of their bodies. It is true because their vitality is being seeped away by the turbulent death energy.

The humans finally became hopeful.

And at that moment, to solidify that hope, the cube gave out some spatial fluctuations and two humans appeared out of nowhere.

Sam and Mitra stood in the middle of the death energy storm and looked at the surroundings.

"Perfect timing."

Sam said as he held the cube. It stopped spinning as soon as he touched it. The next moment, he took out the reaper sword and finished off the three giants. He then looked at the three humans who are still injured.

"You guys are in no state to continue. You can use the transference scrolls to get back to the camp."

"We tried, but they are not working."

*SNAP*

Sam snapped his fingers and said.

"They will work now. You can try."

The three of them were a bit doubtful, but they still took the transference scroll and used it. They disappeared and reappeared in the camp. Looking at the three people who couldn't even stand up, appear in the middle of the healing area, the crew hurriedly came forward and started treating them.

An officer came to them to get the report within a minute and they reported the whole scenario.

Of course, the credit for their rescue and killing the giants fell on Sam and Mitra.

They thought that these cubes and pills are just for show, but only after they used did they understand how valuable they were.

They tried everything at their disposal but they were unable to get out of the forest. But that cube and the pills gave them a way out. They felt grateful for themselves as well as Sam and Mitra.

Meanwhile, back in the forest, Sam and Mitra stood in the middle of the clear area the cube created.

It is filled with death energy.

Sam snapped his fingers and the death energy stopped running rampant. It almost fell on to the ground like raindrops and disappeared.

Slowly, the trees and the vegetation started growing. It is not as fast as before, but it is still very fast.

If the three humans that were just rescued saw this, their trauma might be triggered, but they would have noticed that the vegetation is not exactly the same anymore.

Sam and Mitra disappeared from there before the forest could lock them in.

"So, how was it? Easy, isn't it?" Sam asked as they appeared at their safepoint.

"It is indeed very easy. To the point that it is disappointing."

"Yeah, I know I took out the three of them, but as I said, I need the kill count. So, I would like some priority."

"Well, I am sure, we will be after some large groups. I would like to see how you are going to monopolize all the giants then."

"Oh trust me, my friend. I can monopolize no matter how giants are there. You haven't see half of the tricks that I have up my sleeve. You will definitely regret it, if you try to compete with me like that."

As they bickered, Sam got another signal. Both of them left to rescue another team.

For the next thirty minutes, Sam and Mitra rescued the whole squad and safely got them back to the camp. The news of how they were stuck in the forest and how the only measure that worked is the cube, spread like wildfire.

Everyone started to cherish the cubes.

Of course, on top of that, everyone got some new information and this triggered a meeting in the camp. This time both Sam and Mitra were invited.

The commander in charge took the head chair and explained.

"Until now, we didn't know what exactly is happening with the disappearance of the squads. The ones that went missing in the forest numbered in hundreds, we knew that a few of them are dead, but the rest of them are still alive, but we don't know the whereabouts.

The only squad that returned gave us some new information.

The problem is not with the giants in the forest. Rather it is with the forest itself.

For some reason, the forest is creating these mazes that are making our squads locked.

Of course, this could be a trick of the giants. They might be the ones that are using some method to control the forest and its vegetation. Whether it is true or not, the forest is currently a dangerous place to us and it is the most advantageous location for the giants."

"So, what should we do? Do we just let the giants crossover and fight with them at the edge of our camp?"

"No, that would be way too stupid of us. Giants might be close ranged fighters, but that doesn't mean, they are incapable of long range attacks. They could just use the forest as their cover and attack us from long range."

"Then, maybe we can focus on our long range defense. We can just attack the giants in the forest through long range.

I heard that newbie here have some methods to get live surveillance of the forest. Maybe he can show some of his prowess in that area and spot the giants while we do the long range attacks."

One of them stood up and proposed as he pointed at Sam.

Sam didn't look bothered at all. In fact, he appeared too unbothered to even react to this conversation.

The commander thought for a moment and felt that this might be a good idea. Even if they couldn't completely kill of the giants, they could at least try to damage them a bit. And they do have specialized long range attackers on their side.

"Sam, what do you think of this? Can you do it?"

The commander asked.

Sam looked at him and said.

"I can do it."

"Then, we can proceed forward…" The guy who proposed the idea was about to continue, but Sam cut him.

"Excuse me, I said I can do it, but I didn't say if I will do it. It is better to hold your horses."

Everyone turned to him with a frown.

The commander is also displeased by his response.

"What do you mean by that? Why wouldn't you be doing it?"

"Aside from the fact that it won't work, I absolutely don't want to."

"How can you say that it won't work? You can't just yap as you want, just because you have some achievements under your belt. You should be able to back up the words you say."

Sam looked at him and sighed. He stood up and said.

"I only attended the meeting, because Mitra wanted me to. You guys seemed to have forgotten something. I am not an active soldier under you. I came here under Deputation because you guys are doing such a 'great' job in this place.

And one of the primary conditions for my presence here is that I cannot be ordered around by you. I would be reporting to the commander-in-chief, but even he has no right to command me.

If you guys are only discussing this, then I will take my leave."

He stood up and was about to walk away.

"How can you be so self-centred when we are facing a crisis that could lead to our extinction?"

"Yeah, speak for yourself. During the time I have been working against the giants, I have seen more infighting than the fight with the giants.

Even right now, in this room, as you speak of your ideals, three factions are scheming against each other, to get more credit and all three of you are planning to send in a request to me so that I could rescue your squad members first if a crisis arises.

Personally, I am only here to kill the giants and I understand the situation of the forest better than any of you, I don't have any reason to play house with you guys. Don't drag me into this."

"Guards."

One of the members made the guards block Sam's way.

"I have all kinds of suspicions against you from the start.

Nobody knew the situation of the forest since there was no information we gained from the previous squads, but you were already able to guess what it is and even gave us a countermeasure.

You are reluctant to share your surveillance means to us.

You are also opposing and resisting the cooperation to fight against the giants.

Your origin is unknown and you just appeared out of thin air.

Why should I believe that you are not a traitor of humanity?"

Sam sighed and looked at the idiot who raised this question. He then turned to Mitra.

"Just explain to that fool. I don't want to lose my brain cells by doing that."

He then turned to the commander and said."

"Your forces are not united and you are up against not just the giants, but a hidden enemy that uses their brain better than all of your captains and Elders combined.

That forest as a whole is a weapon against you and if you think you can just bypass it with simple long-range attacks and some defensive measures, then you are sorely mistaken.

If you want to hear my opinion, I would welcome you for a conversation, but not along with these fools.

Bye."
