RBS Chapter 3.1: Rejecting Confession (3)

Unless it’s real?

Bo Xiyun paused.

Does this mean Young Master Yi didn’t like fake gossip only?

Bo Xiyun didn’t know why Yi Zhongshen would add to his first reply, but he felt what he said made sense, so he nodded.

“Fake gossip truly isn’t good. It will also affect any real relationships you may have.”

Upon hearing his agreement, Yi Zhongshen didn’t react much for some reason.

Instead, his gaze on Bo Xiyun darkened even further.

Bo Xiyun only thought that Yi Zhongshen was usually this distant, so he didn’t consider any more, and took the chance to apologize for the note earlier.

“I’m so sorry for the note earlier in the evening, it caused so much trouble.”

“……”

Yi Zhongshen stayed silent, his indifferent gaze starting to look even more unfathomable.

In the end, he still answered.

“That’s not on you.”

Their conversation halted as the car started up. Bo Xiyun continued to sit quietly, trying to hide his presence.

The mobile phone rang again shortly after they had left the school compound.

This time, Yi Zhongshen directly picked up the call through the display screen on the car console.

“Zhongshen, have you reached First High School?”

The voice that drifted from the car system was gentle and elegant, attracting Bo Xiyun’s attention from his fingers as he turned to take a look.

Perhaps feeling his gaze, Yi Zhongshen turned the volume down a little, to a volume that would not disturb others.

He said, “I’ve left.”

“Eh, you’ve finished over there?” The youth on the other end was a little shocked. “I’m still caught in a jam, there’s a downpour in East City, and it will take me another half an hour.”

The display screen showed the registered name of the caller.

[Gu Er]

The youth asked, “Where are you planning to go now?”

Yi Zhongshen: “To the Bai house, to get documents.”

“Such a coincidence,” the youth remembered something. “Oh right, they seem to be holding some sort of banquet, said to be a celebration for finding their real son—”

Yi Zhongshen frowned and interrupted, “Um.” His fingers fell on the display screen.

“We’ll talk when we meet.”

He ended the call after that sentence.

Silence regained its place in the car after that.

Yi Zhongshen glanced sideways at the youngster who was seated quietly, seemingly unaffected by the words he had just heard.

He sat with his back straight up, knees closed together, his posture so docile that it left an impression. The car continued on its journey smoothly as the weakened lights from the streetlamps shone into the car, the warm tones softening the contours of the youngster’s face.

It made him look gentle and peaceful.

After a short while, during a traffic light stop, Yi Zhongshen suddenly spoke, “Not feeling well?”

Bo Xiyun's reaction was a tad bit delayed, “……um?”

The youngster blinked his eyes slowly, his long and curly lashes flashing in the night. He didn’t seem to have heard the question, “What……?”

He was not aware of his current situation but the other occupant in the car had already discovered it.

Yi Zhongshen said, “The glove compartment in front of your legs contains medication for motion sickness.”

The youngster looked listless, making him look even more docile, doing only what he was told. He opened the glove compartment in front of him and saw it contained a medicated spray bottle and sealed disposable masks.

“Thank you.”

He opened the packaging, covered his mouth and nose with a mask, and activated the spray twice. The spray took effect almost immediately. Bo Xiyun felt much better and his face didn’t look as pale as before.

Yi Zhongshen smoothed his fingertips on the steering wheel, “You get motion sickness even when seated in front?”

Bo Xiyun lifted his head when he heard his voice, his light-colored eyes shining with moisture.

He said softly, “Not in the past, perhaps it has been too cold recently, I don’t have much energy recently.”

The youngster had always been weak, and with his recent traveling, the state of his body was made obvious. The class teacher had already discovered this when talking to him earlier.

In fact, it had only been a few days since Bo Xiyun had contracted a 41-degree fever. His body and mental state were still weak.

“I’m OK.”

Bo Xiyun had already made plans to get his health back on track, but he was not used to letting others worry about him, thus he gave the same reply he had given to the class teacher.

“The motion sickness medication is very effective, thank you.”

Moreover, Yi Zhongshen was a good driver and there were no bad odors like gasoline or leather inside the car. Instead, it smelled like its owner, a cool light minty scent in this warm interior.

Surrounded by this cool scent, Bo Xiyun slowly relaxed.

He detected Yi Zhongshen’s gaze on him again, but when he looked back, Yi Zhongshen had already looked away and was saying, “There’s a blanket and sleeping mask in the glove compartment.”

The sleeping mask was a disposable one, and the blanket was also new and had been dried in the sun before, carrying the smell of warm sunshine.

It's just that these items were so out of place compared to the austere and clean interior of the car. Bo Xiyun would never have guessed that Young Master Yi would be so complete in his preparations for items in the car.

Yi Zhongshen spoke softly, but as usual, it sounded like there was no room for negotiation, “Rest a bit, the roads are jammed.”

Bo Xiyun didn’t reject his words as he did feel dizzy and tired. He took the blanket and wrapped himself in it.

He was too slim so the sleeping mask looked a little too big and was unable to cover his eyes fully. Peering through the gap on the side of the mask, Bo Xiyun dazedly made out the driver’s arm holding the steering wheel, and the bones of his wrist that were exposed by the coat sleeve.

The contours of his wrist were defined and strong, like the hands of a master sculptor.

Yi Zhongshen graduated high school last year, and although the age gap between him and Bo Xiyun was only one year, what stood out between them was the difference between being of age and being underage.

Unknowingly, the rain started outside the window.

On this winter night, that light minty scent seemed to be able to evoke the feeling of a safe harbor.

Bo Xiyun slowly fell asleep peacefully while listening to the accompaniment of the rain.

*

Bai family mansion.

Although it was winter, the current atmosphere in the Bai family was lively and crowded. Under the glowing lights outside the walls, the large multi-story mansion looked like an opulent hall, decorated exquisitely with red carpets lining the road from the main gate to the main house.

It could be seen that the Bai family was very thoughtful as they prepared for that night’s banquet.

Guests had already started arriving with VIPs being ushered individually towards the VIP room, showing their thoughtful hospitality.

Thus, when an unregistered car appeared at the front gates, the security’s first response was to immediately stop it.

The rain had lightened, and through the front windscreen, the security could see the driver's face but they were not familiar with him. Although the driver stopped, he didn’t even roll down the window.

The security felt quite perplexed.

Although they didn’t recognize the driver, they definitely could recognize the build of the car, a Maybach. Thus, the security still acted with courtesy. Not long after, an usher ran towards the car, intending to communicate with the driver.

In the end, the usher took one look at the driver and was stunned.

He even rubbed his eyes, thinking what he had seen was a mistake.

“Young……Master Yi?!”
